  1. A mixed bag really. Domestic arb. It's the biggest saw we have at the moment, it was either the 576 or a 395 I decided on the 575 as I know we will get more use out of it and we can save up for a 395 as we go. My mate has a 660 he will lend me if we're desperate. I figured I'd get 3 different bar lengths for it. 20" 25" and 28". Thanks
  2. Fair play to you Stephen. We've just put a new clutch kit and flyweel in ours so I would have definitely been wincing pulling that lot out.
  3. Welcome, Midge.
  4. Welcome to our very eclectic family!
  5. Zig zag works fine on 11mm. But as others have said it is less diameter than recommended by petzl so if anything went pear shaped your insurance would probably want to wriggle out of any settlement. I used mine on 11mm aeris with no issues but I'm back on 11.7 limelite now 'cos I don't think it's worth the risk.
  6. Great Vid Reg. Did you use a top anchor then redirect through the cambium saver to spread the load? I'm interested in what knots, hitches and redirects you used on that particular system as you had great canopy access. Trying to work that tree on a doubled rope system looks like it would have taken a lot longer. Thanks Timon
  7. I didn't realise climbing on spikes can ruin your taste in music as well....
  8. Thanks guys 28" sugihara on its way and turn the oil pump on full it is then.
  9. Hi Jon Too late mate...... Already got the 576xp.
  10. Has anyone used a 576xp with a 28inch bar and is it any good? Thanks in advance
  11. Always check my Mk 2 ZZ before I climb and after reading all these posts I find myself constantly monitoring it during the climb as well. Mines had some right stick and it's held up fine so far.

Hi Sean. It's really good to see that you are continuing to have the victory over your circumstances. Good to to you're out and about. Timon and Lynne.
  13. The thing I like about Andrew White is that he helps people in the Middle East regardless of wether they are Jewish, Christian or Muslim. Also he is not afraid to say things that others won't. He comes across as a bit eccentric yet he is really switched on.
  14. Like Mark says.. We let them know at the quote stage what the terms are, payment In cash, cheque or bacs to the team leader at the end of the job. The vast majority pay up on the spot with no problem. I'm surprised how many offer to pay before we've even done the work....
  15. We've got a few. Very usefull, economical and reliable. Good little workhorses
  16. Went to see this guy speak tonight in Lincoln. Was a real eye opener. An amazing guy who does amazing work. He said some very challenging things. Suffers terribly from MS yet still carries on doing an amazing job. A very humbling experience. 'Europe is Ignoring The Real Refugees' Says Vicar of Baghdad
  17. Sorry to hear this mate. Happens far too often.
  18. His book on the fundamentals of general treework is well worth a read.
  19. Hi Jamie, I have a love hate relationship with my TM. I hate all the loose flappy bits, it is a busy harness but it gives endless options to hang the Christmas decorations from I love having the lower D's. I love the fact it's a comfortable harness to sit in. I hate the fact that all of the custom gear loops were lost long ago in conifer jobs. I hate that I have to tighten it up so much to be able to hang a saw off it when really it is designed to be worn low on the hips. I love that everything on it is replaceable. I'll certainly take a good look at the competition before I buy another one, in some ways I really love it but in other ways it gets on my nerves. Timon
  20. Almost certainly one of the root shoulders will go under the fence for starters and there will be a tap root as well. If I had to take it out by hand I'd use a mattock and a jack. Bite the bullet and get a stump grinder in. If it was a conifer then perhaps I'd have a go by hand but not a cherry right next to a fence/conservatory.
  21. Neat little fix!
  22. Treemotion. Dual pulley, ultra o and prussic loop for a redirect. Throw bag on a snap gate. 4x small snap hooks First aid kit Zillon lanyard.
  23. I've had problems wearing spikes with the No Risk climbing boots and with Haix Airpower gold. (Ally Bashlin spikes) got myself a pair of Meindl Airstreams and found them to be very comfy, if wearing spikes can be described as being comfy. I have found that the more rigid the boot is, the better they are with spikes. I also made sure that I've adjusted the spikes to the correct position. There should be two fingers between the top of the shaft and your knee.
  24. As many of these as I can fit in.
  25. I think I understand what you are asking...... My understanding of why there is a need for a soft link or cut away component on a wire core flip line set up is that; in the event of a rescue a casualty can be cut out of the system to be transferred onto another system. If there is no cut away point the climber is captive in his (wire core) strop because at each end of the flip line there are metal "eyes" that a rope grab or a pulley can't pass. As far as I know (if I understand your question correctly) I don't see a problem with having a rope grab on a soft strop, in fact Dragon make a lanyard with exactly that set up. It is important to make sure that the rope grab you are using is compatible with the diameter of rope. Metal connectors can be connected to other metal components eg crabs to side D's and swivels etc.. They should be checked for compatibility etc.. There are others on here with more extensive knowledge than me but that's my two penny's worth. Hope it is helpful.
