1. Just posting this to acknowledge a job well done by Rob Wells (Riggerbear) The tree was a decayed black poplar that needed dismantling in a tight spot. A few other firms had declined to do the job because of the poor condition of the tree. With the help of Rob's skills and experience we were able to quote and win the job. The pictures speak for themselves. Can highly recommend Rob's services. Very capable and efficient climber. Friendly and hard working. Nice one Rob! 🙂
2. Good to hear a happy outcome for a change. It's quite depressing to hear so many instances where the police are unable or unwilling to help.
3. Another good video Ben. Thanks for sharing it. Looked like a good example of SRT saving time and effort.
4. A few from an oak pollard. Quite a bit of rigging involved as the tree was spread over 2 lanes, 4 gardens, 3 sheds and fences.. Not the nicest thing to do to an oak but it had outgrown its situation. But better than complete removal.

New career

Am 51 this year and still really enjoy it. I'd say go for it. It sounds like it would be right up your street.

New career

I started climbing (properly) at 48
7. Stunning pics. Especially like how the drone shots capture the whole tree.
8. He subs out part time to the Samaritans.
9. I always ask. (Unless I did the quote and notice that the hygiene levels are lacking)
10. Nice harness....
11. try allotments and horse stables where they have sand -school riding areas.
12. You speak for yourself Will, I'm only 50! 🙂
13. Interesting dilemma. I'd do some research with the manufacturer and see if I could get their data. If I could establish MBS, SWL , WLL values, and had info on their testing results, I could ask the question to the legislators here in the UK; 1) having done some research, could I legally certify this bit of kit "safe to use"? 2) in the event of equipment failing, would my professional indemnity policy still cover me (or would they use the CE mark or lack of it to nullify my policy?) 3). Could I successfully defend my decision in a court of law? I'd really have to fall in love with SRT to spend that much on a friction device!!
14. How much is a bulldog bone? Roughly, and do they have a CE mark?
15. I did the opposite on mine. Passed the theory and made a safety critical error on the practical. Passed the second time around no problem. It's remarkable how expiry dates and guidelines change on different items of kit vary from source to source. All the best with your re-sit 🙂
16. Or an ivy infested holly for me.
17. I was aware of the 5 years for textiles (especially harnesses) but not the 10 years for metal kit. Not trying to be contrary, but where did you get that from.??
18. Sunday afternoons are best for me. I'll drop you a line soon 🙂
19. I'll take you up on that soon Joe. We've got loads of mature oaks at our place. Really hectic busy at the moment, so it will be in a few weeks. (Not that we're ever "not busy" whatever that is...) Thanks 🙂
20. You guys aren't very good SRT ambassadors 😀
21. A climber, 2nd climber/groundie plus tipper and chipper, climbing kit, saws, rigging kit. Insurance. Fuel. Advertising etc.... For £332 a day? Not much change left out of that at the end of the day. There is also the fact that people can also see that a firm charging/paying VAT is a sign of an honest, busy firm. Any half decent salesperson can work that into the quoting discussion.
22. Well done. Very inspirational. 👍
23. Used something similar today to pull a back leaning stem over. Pull line tied to the top of the stem, then a pulley tied to the base of a nearby tree in the direction of fall. The pull line goes through the pulley and back up on itself to another pulley tied (by prussic and carabiner) halfway back towards the stem. Feed the end of the pull line through that pulley to give you 3 to 1 mechanical advantage. The prussic can be pushed further back up the line as the system shortens on itself. (If anyone can understand that I'll be amazed!) I'll try and put some pics up tomorrow.
24. Looks like you will have needed all your specialist heavy plant engineering skills for that job!
