  1. Managed to blag myself onto a course ran by the Engineers so all paid for by the Army. I'm told I'll still get a civvy recognised qual out of it but until I get there on Monday I'm not sure. Looking forward to it though, see how badly I've been doing things for the past 4-5 years
  2. Thats as good a plan as any haha
  3. Spot on It's not like there wasn't family and friends who'd been there done that, who most of us probably chose to ignore cos we knew best
  4. Top man spud thanks
  5. It's alive Thanks for the input everyone, I'm guessing as spud suggested fuel has leaked in causing high compression and now it's dry it's back to normal. If it happens again hopefully it'll be back up and running much quicker. On that note if this does become a recurring problem would that need a complete new carb? Thanks again, Mick
  6. Definately mate, very nice
  7. Nice stuff tony. What's the toadstool finished with
  8. Just for my own peace of mind. I've had this saw for 4 year. It had been running the day before. When this happened there was a very noticeable increase in effort required to pull it over from one pull to the next. So much so that I was worried if I'd tried to get it to go I'd probably have ended up snapping a pull cord. I removed the plug this morning and tipped it up, nothing came out but it's had all night to dry out anyway with the exhaust off. So I'm going to put it back together shortly and see if there's any change. Hopefully it was caused by trying to compress petrol that had leaked in. The gaps seem ok at the flywheel and the coil. Had a look on eBay last night and the same saws are all £100 more than I paid for this one so don't fancy replacing it. God knows whose paying that though, you can get a brand new echo for that sort of money with a 5 year home owner warranty.
  9. Very jealous of you blokes with farms and small holding with so much space and outbuildings. Must make life easy when it comes to seasoning and storing your own wood
  10. All the best to Sean for a speedy recovery
  11. Tell you what breaks me. Paying more for a large tea. It's still the same bag it's just a splash more water!!
  12. I need to get my head round this 2 stroke stuff. I'm used to big dirty diesel engines. Sorry if you've answered these questions a million times before spud. It's much appreciated
  13. I won't see my own mother I'm at the wrong end of the country. But me and the wife are taking the kids to Staunton park to see the kid goats that've just been born
  14. Look good mate. Don't mean to knock but doesnt beech not do too well in the elements
  15. why didn't I think of that
  16. If it had gone backwards at start up spud ( I think that's what you meant if I didn't pull it hard enough ) how would I then correct that
  17. Ok few bits to look at again in the morning. Sorry I should have said but this is an old 038 av super. If it has a decompression valve I don't know about it
  18. At the minute I don't have a torqs bit that I can get access to the head bolts with to check that
  19. Wouldn't like to say it's definately not that, but slowly moving the cylinder with the exhaust off the sticking point is consistently as the cylinder approaches TDC, then frees again. I just don't know what can cause this. 2 strokes aren't really my thing
  20. The bore
  21. Tried to start my saw today. With the choke on i gave it a few pulls and it tried to fire. Knocked the choke off expecting it to go it's the normal routine but as I pulled it I ripped the handle out of my hand and it was very stiff when I had another try. I've had it on the bench and with the spark plug out it turns easily. I've had the exhaust off which had no effect. The piston does look a bit burned but I don't know how clean you'd expect it to be. I can't see any scoring on the bore. Any body got an idea what my next step should be. Thank you
  22. The wife will go mad if she seen what I done to about £1000 worth of beech today
  23. Some lumps with unions that I thought maybe of interest to turners. The saw in the pics for scale has 18" bar if anyone wants anything I'd only be hoping for an item from the wood please. I'm busy slowly turning the rest of these trees into firewood
