  1. Picked it up today and intend to burn it. I've got no idea
  2. Unfortunately I agree.
  3. Too many bunny huggers are the reason so many pest species are seeing numbers increase year after year. Then The government pick up the bill for an organised cull because things are out of hand. Badgers now squirrels and I don't think it'll be long before deer are being culled in the south because sportsmen don't have a big enough impAct any more. Hunting has become taboo
  4. The only thing that puts me off the fiskars is the fibreglass shaft. Am I right thinking hickory shafts give less vibration
  5. Gonna bring this topic back up but has anybody used the large and small splitting axe from grandfors. I used the small one this week and really liked how light and easy it was but sometimes found it just lacked a bit of weight to go through tougher bits and had to pick up my cheap maul. Was thinking the larger axe might be a bit better suited to some of the crap I split
  6. Link Rucksacks, Backpacks, Daypacks and Baby Carriers | GO Outdoors
  7. Pallet wood because it's free from work
  8. Same one for 3 years? Does that mean you re plant it after Xmas and dig it up again next year. One extra question for real trees. How long do you have them up because ours is usually up for the whole of December. Would a real one still look acceptable after 3-4 weeks.
  9. The big question Real or Artificial. And why? We're artificial in this house. Reason 1 - The wife already had a very nice tree when I moved in and we've kept it because it's already paid for and I'm a true tight arse northerner Reason 2 - I would imagine in a room with a roaring log burner a real one would drop its needles in no time (could be wrong I'm guessing tbh ) So what have you got
  10. Customers might be a pain but when the bumpy who can't light a fire is your wife its a very different story haha. She's there now thank god
  11. Can silkys be sharpened or are they hardened tips
  12. Now googling katanaboy haha
  13. I have permission to collect dead wood on a large amount of land, but without any power tools due to insurance reasons. I take a big bow saw to help me out at the moment. I'd never heard of silky saws until I seen them on here. What woul be best for cutting bigger diameter logs please.
  14. East hants mate. Going by the replies I need a chat with my training officer and look to be getting on courses next year when I'm home from Poland (fly this week) hopefully I qualify for a £2k training grant. And can start trying to find some weekend work
  15. Is it worth doing a two day user and cross cutting course that is LANTRA recognised. Or can you go straight in at CS30/31. I've been using a saw for a few years now with no formal training. I'm starting to think about life after the army so gonna try and get at least part way qual'd and gain experience where I can Thanks in advance for any help
  16. I've gave your number to my brother in law if that's ok. He should call this weekend. Thanks
  17. Thanks for the info CJM. I always thought ivy leeched nutrients from the tree. Every days a school day
  18. It's a shame to lose the industry. I'm A North East lad originally and remember when the saying "taking coal to Newcastle" meant doing something stupid or impractical. But now it's a reality. As with many industries though I feel we implement very high H&S, and employers welfare and rights make production expensive, and then we price ourselves out of the market. Catch 22. I don't think many people would want to return to what people like miners had to endure even 50 years ago, therefore our traditional industry dies out. I do think the blame culture has forced employers to take ridiculous measures to protect themselves. I'm in the army and the change to training and day to day tasks over the last 15 years is unreal. Took all the fun out it haha
  19. A lot of the windfall stuff I got last year was covered in ivy. By time it's been handled into, out of van, ringed up, split then stacked you won't be taking much into the house to fall off mate. It usually falls off pretty easy anyway once it's been dead a while Off on a bit of a tangent but did others notice the same ref windfall that had a bad ivy problem. A lot of the road blockages maybe could have been avoided if various landowners and councils looked after their trees
  20. 038AV super farmboss is the full name of mine. Bit of a mouthful. But the farmboss part did make me think it would be a fairly all purpose and tough kind of saw. It's older than I realised if it's from the 90's but hopefully it'll have a few more year left in it
  21. Pretty sure all my logs are dead I think some of my unidentified stuff is poplar. It was windfall from last year. Is quite light and burns very hot
  22. Ok thanks for that
  23. Not noticed this model number ever get a mention on here. It's what I bought off eBay for own use firewood. 18" bar Too big most the time but it was one of those bids you don't think you're gonna win haha and to me a saw is a saw. What are people's opinion of these and what sort of work were they intended for. I've had mine a couple of years now. Don't intend to change it just curious Thanks, Mick
  24. Notice a few people saying they're burning rotten wood. I've always been dubious about picking stuff up that has wet rot. Once split and stored under cover does is dry out good to burn still
  25. It's only took best part of five years My lurcher likes turning logs into kindling as well. Much to the wife's amusement!
