  1. I've got nothing against soft wood but do find I have to fill up a bit more regular. I don't sell anything just all own use
  2. If getting plugs that are up to the job is difficult what about wearing a smaller set of cans over them that arent chainsaw rated but combined still give suitable protection, and fit under the hood
  3. In order of quantity I've got mostly oak, working down beech, birch, pine, ash, some u identified stuff. It goes pretty nicely it's all stuff I've collected so I know it's seasoned. Even managed to educate the wife that it's a lot easier to start the fire with pine and birch. How many times I used to get home and find a massive lump of blackened oak sat on top of the kindling
  4. Hopefully we won't see the floods again. Don't mind the wind though. Plenty opportunity for free wood
  5. Sneaky if eBay don't pull it. Matt moss the buyer protection is the fact that it's a collection sale. Same as any classified ad
  6. Fiskars X27 Antishock Log Splitting Axe 915mm Long with Soft Grip Handle + FREE Axe Sharpener Worth £10.95 : Tooled-Up.com This is a uk site selling the x27 form£42 and the sharpener is thrown in free. I just googled fiskars x27
  7. I'll just add to what I said though that what's right by the letter of the law, and what you can actually get away with are usually quite different
  8. Pretty sure you need permission for collecting any dead wood mate. If it's common land the council are probably considered the land owners. I've got permission for dead wood on some army training estate but I'm not allowed and power tools for insurance purposes. Also can't take a vehicle anywhere the public wouldn't normally be allowed so it's very limiting to what I can take. Even if you were doing a public service by clearing a blocked road you are breaking the law if you put the wood in your car. Bit mental really

    Rats!

I shoot a few rats in the garden they come for chicken feed. I've sat in the garden with the fire pit on wih friends and chucked a burnt sausage down off the BBQ and seen them come out in front of us all. Also put cage traps out and if I think the numbers are getting up again I use slaymore. I bought it in the small bags. Just kept replacing the bags until it stopped being eaten. That finishes them until the next lot move in
  10. Could you give a rough idea of delivery costs to Hampshire please
  11. Agree very much with this. Not to mention the fine dog owners are threatened with from not picking up. It's difficult to have any fondness for cats when you've found a freshly planted flower bed turfed up and £30+ of plants wrecked. Or worse still, getting cat **** all over your hands when you're doing a bit of planting.
  12. Not really sure about the colour change. Just a reddish brown I think. Thanks though I probably will spray to be safe next year. When should that be done
  13. An experienced couple of lurchers would clean up in walled fields as the rabbits find it difficult to get quickly into the tight entrances with a dog on their arse. But hundreds per week would take some doing. It's a shame the numbers have been allowed to get to that state. I imagine the dry stone walking will be suffering as well
  14. Forgot to add, one of the reasons for my concern was when watering the soil gave in. Turns out moles have tunnelled very close to the tree. Could they have damaged roots?
  15. And another
  16. Close up
  17. It was bought from a local nursery and planted this spring. I'm not sure it should have lost so many leaves already
  18. Well this is an old topic but I'll say my bit anyway haha. The landowner needs to let a good ferret and or lurcher man on. A newly laid hedge will be a big advantage to a dog. That would help limit the damage they do to the hedge if the numbers were well reduced
  19. I'm About half an hour away in bordon up the a3. Your answer machine is coming straight on so I'll try a bit later
  20. I may be able to take the limbs for firewood if they're going free
  21. Only just seen this. Have I missed the boat Thanks, Mick
  22. Durable or pretty is always a compromise is this house. Practicality comes a clear first for me. But equally the wife's first priority is looks
  23. Yes it's being used as a water butt. Not doing anything suits me haha. Just make a good job of rubbing off the old stuff then
  24. Thanks for the advice. It looks like a varnish that I'm rubbing off but not much of it left
  25. I've got an old wooden barrel water butt that could do with a bit of a smarten up. I've give it a rub down but don't know what to treat it with. I've no idea what sort of wood it is. I've got some teak oil in the shed or was thinking of getting some Danish oil. Any suggestions And I'm going to use stove paint on the bands
