    The clutch is centrifugal, so the shoes only come out as the engine revs, there are strong springs that hold the shoes in because you do not want the shoes coming out at idle, so as long as you can open them with a tool i would say its ok.

    The clutch on a brush cutter cannot seize, the clutch will be connected to the crankshaft, there will then be a bell housing with a drum in that sits over the clutch, the drum will be connected to a shaft which runs down the inside of the tube, the other end will fit into a gearbox which then turns the head, so which part has seized, take the gearbox off, does the shaft turn with the engine at full revs, if yes the gearbox has an issue, if it does not turn the shaft may have seized in the tube, many tubes have oilite bearings so do not need grease, some have nylon liners which do need grease, the gearbox also needs grease.

    There are two different tanks, the later 181 and 281 has a roll action throttle tostop the issues of throttle shutting down when under cutting.

  5. You obviously never had the Dolmar Wankel engine saw, a complete disaster, spent all my time fitting main bearings due to them going square, great idea though.

    Age of saws

    As said here the ser no will incorperate the date of manufacture, the first digits should be the year followed by the week followed by the machine no. produced in that year and week, prior to 2000 the first digit was the year in a ten year rotation ( 9 could be 99 or 89 and so on, the next two digits will be the week ) e.g. 934000010 1999 week 34 10 off the line. In 2000 the first two digits were 00 2001 01 etc, today the year is printed in front of the ser no.

    Fuel gone off?

    A lot of talk here about stale fuel and air leaks, but none about what two stroke oil is being used here, quaility,quantity.
  8. Just make sure nobody has connected the return to tank hose onto the fuel tank breather, i have seen this many times, the breather should be visable with a white nipple on the end, the return connection is orange just to the right of the breather.
  9. Oh hell, just seen this post, i would have taken the Mcculloch no problem!
  10. I never fit anything into the cylinder to lock the piston, this creates a direct force on top of the piston, the correct tool and an impact gun jars the clutch, which will remove it safely and no chance of internal damage.
  11. Never, never fit a piston stop and use the screw driver and hammer method, you need to jar it against the compression ( deco valve out ) it will let go eventually, and not put a hole in the top of the piston.

  13. If you go for another s/h tank be aware the later 346xp has a fuel purge, the early model did not, so the tanks are different due to a fuel return nipple in the later tank.
  14. The only real difference between the 365 and the 365 Special ( other than the decal ) was the cylinder inlet manifold connection, the early saw had the inlet manifold held to the cylinder with two screws, the special has the same connection as the 372xp with a screw clip around the outside.

The gearbox is from the Husqvarna 325P4/ P5, it ran two bar lenghts and a 3/8 050 low profile chain, 12" bar 501959245 10" 501959240, same bars as were fitted to the 338XPT, the oil hole will seem to be in the wrong place, however the oil feeds through the upper bar adjuster hole, into the side cover and fed round into the lower bar oil hole.
  17. A small pit in the cylinder can aid oil retention, so is not always a bad thing, what you do not want is material above the cylinder surface.
  18. That engine has not seized, somthing has gone through it, i would think the bearing cage has broken up, think i would split the crankcase and check.
  19. Sorry, as standard the 560xp runs the small Husqvarna bar pad and .325 058 gauge chain, if the bar now on the saw has the wrong profile, or the wrong gauge when the bar nuts are tightened it will lock the chain in the bar, or if the pitch of the chain is incorrect for the rim fitted, it may have been changed to 3/8
  20. Are sure this is the correct bar and chain combination for the saw 058 chain in an 050 bar, incorrect bar profile for the bar pad etc.
  21. Excessive vibration caused by over revving is the normal cause of the crankcase cracking around the flywheel, if that is all it needs it is well worth rebuilding, 357 machines are fetching good money, there will be plenty of used crankcases around, just need a gasket set and a pair of seals.
  22. As has already been said that is the packing washer, this should have been discarded once the saw was assembled,it is amazing you think you have seen it all, then this turns up, no wonder the bar nuts fell off.
  23. The screw fits into the av mount, if you use it like this you will stretch the rear spring, and possibly break the securing lug off.

  25. Oil can and will sit around in all the little places under there, which will drain out when left, there is normally plenty of saw dust around to dry up this excess oil, if the saw is left full of oil in a warm place there will be an amount of natural leakage from the breather.
