  1. All this talk makes me want to finish off my hammock .. had a hennessy hammock years ago and got halfway through sewing a layer of insulation on the underside .. Only once tried it up a tree but it was between two sitkas and the flex was just too much to keep the tarp taught. One little tip; Get one of the really cheap light net hammocks and string it up just underneath your hammock to store your gear in. Keeps everything dry and off the ground, and slows down the wind a bit. I do like the bottom entry on this one and if you had a wee length of dynamic rope then you could have a little bit of slack on it and velcro it up real tight around to keep the insects out.. Besides, people say that you don't get midges above 25ft, anybody actually found it to be true?
  2. Surely the observations of the op confirm that loler is doing it's job? .. But surely also we can take responsibility for our own actions with our own kit on our own terms .. Totally different ballgame if you're getting handed the one set of kit and you use it or get sacked.
  3. They use the 02 network, never had any issues with reception or anything and it really seems to be the cheapest I've found, at least for somebody who just uses their phone to keep in touch with people and doesn't need thousands of minutes or internet time. I've always used the £5/month goodybag and never got close to the limit but your mileage may vary. Before that I was getting ripped off with vodafone payg with over £5/week for a lot less minutes.
  4. Can't be too uncommon as a friend's got a copy .. for sure he's not selling it but if you need any pages copied it could possibly be sorted out..
  5. I will warn though that a friend of mine had a prussik cord with a double fishermans and then the ends taped down .. Well the ends rode a bit loose and formed a sort of 'loop' only held closed by the tape .. She accidentally clipped into this loop, tested the weight and it seemed to hold as it should, started descending on it and it came out, fell and broke her back .. Little details like that can be too important ..
  6. See they're banning kids from using calculators in primary school now .. I reckon teach them to use slide rules and they'll be a hell of a lot better off
  7. Probably being a cheap chinese saw he needed to hold the brake handle back for the blade to turn at all? Maybe he thought it worked the other way round?
  8. Just been playing around with one of my ol grandads, really quite fast and not so complex once you get used to it .. appeals to my core luddite Any tips for learning how to use them or just keep practicing and looking up? Is there any board feet, cubic meter etc forestry slide rules made anybody knows of? Does anybody get cross-eyed after spending hours trawling through gumtree? :cursing: Just in case anybody's happened to see anything, I'm in the market for a large estate or small 5 seater ish van in Scotland with about 1.3k to spare.. Any ideas of good places to look apart from gumtree ebay autotrader etc ..
  12. If anyone's interested, the finished product! Just a prototype really but going to be starting to make them for sale pretty soon, 'rocket stove' range cooker, gets very hot and much more efficient use of wood than a rayburn etc for the same size hotplate.
  13. So after a quick trip to A&E and having a litre of saline shoved down my eyeball I've only sustained some very minor damage from getting polyester resin splashed in my eye .. Was wearing just the safety specs at the time which are what I always use as the goggles just get steamed up and end up useless .. Does anybody have any recommendations for good ones that either have better coverage or goggles that actually won't steam up? ..
  14. Nah real men just rip apart the hv wires and lassoo the tree and pull it down .. amateurs. tsk

  20. So there's some of us studying horticulture in edinburgh who want to band together to get some training lessons. Main ones are: Brushcutter EFAW PA1/PA6 We're looking if there would be any cheaper way to book the courses rather than individually booking through oatridge etc. So does anybody know of cheap instructors that could give us a quote and how many people we'd need to make it worthwhile? Is it possible just to book an assessment for the brushcutter? PS if anybody in the area would like to join in on doing a course pm me..
