  1. Just a quick one, does anybody have the tuning figures for an 076av? Can only find top rpm figures for similar saws at 9000 or 13000rpm. Currently sitting at about 8000 and running a little bit rich, doesn't feel like I'm quite getting the full power out of it but don't want to over-rev it!
  2. Yes they're good all round carving knives, although I have a couple of the eric frost range for finer stuff.. They even have one for £9 which is still a perfectly good knife. I find you can drop the knife out of the sheath if you keep it on your belt so just pop an re-openable cable tie through it to hold it in place securely.
  3. I've always just used the biggest drill bit I've got then knocked out the rest with a chisel and finished with a knife, a bit of faff but using what I've got and more control over wall thickness.
  4. As a matter of fact I have one.. Got it cleaned and teeth shaped, needs sharpened handled and making a mount/pit and away we go! Anyone fancy a race with an alaskan mill?
  5. Also looks a hell of a lot like 12mm polyprop used as a rigging rope, be aware of the breaking strains: Rope - sizes, weights & breaking strengths of polypropylene & sisal rope (although the SWL is only 280kg and consider shock loads) Could I ask how you got into tree work and what experience you've been able to build up?
  6. Parcel off the land they're on, sell it to a one-time limited company and let it go bankrupt?
  7. Does anybody have a definitive answer to how firearms legislation might apply to using these in the UK?
  8. Last one looks like somebody's put in the gob cut and given up?!?
  9. Have done similar with whole legs of venison, but something more like an earth oven; dig a big hole - cover it with a layer of branches on top - build a big fire with big rocks mixed in - burn once the fire's burnt down to embers take some rocks out - wrap your meat in lots of wild garlic, flavourful herbs - chuck some vegetation on top of the hot rocks, put your wrapped meat in place - put more on top, the rocks you took out - bury for 6 hours then dig up I've seen photos in indonesia of people cooking feasts with several whole pigs in a similar way in a large trench!
  10. Looks like one on in Glasgow in May .. Tree Inspection Training Informed Tree Services Ltd Tree Surgery Consultancy Consultant Tree Surgery Course Tree Surveys
  11. Looked around a bit, got this rope amongst other bits in exchange for a saw, in unused condition with known purchase date. 13mm with blue black and red stripes, does anybody recognize it?
  12. Only chestnuts and sycamore here too
  13. This came up in a ruling pretty recently: British government defeated as EU court rules travelling to work 'is work' - Telegraph
  14. Although I did have a try of a friends tormek once and was ridiculously impressed.
  15. I've got the DMT stones and they're good for very hard steels although they're more for honing as they really don't cut very much, although hardwearing and aggressive. I'd recommend the slip set from woodsmiths; Strop + Slip Set | Sharpening | Woodsmith Experience | Woodsmith Experience. For specialist, handmade, woodworking tools. Which you can make yourself from some grades of wet and dry and flat strips of wood, a piece of leather and some paste but it's a good set. Also found a lot of variance between different honing pastes and find that one works well, being aggressive but leaving an almost mirror finish. Find myself unless hitting grit etc while carving just touching up a little with 300/600 grit then straight onto the strop. For establishing flat bevels glue a big sheet of wet and dry to a piece of glass and use it wet, continually washing off the swarf, keeping the glass clamped to a solid surface and holding the bevel flat with both hands. Whatever you do, don't bother with oilstones, although I would love a big wide ceramic/diamond wetstone for getting perfectly flat bevels.
  16. Went and got the aldi one! Seems good, nice and chunky, solid enough feeling. Got a torch, basic internet and camera, decent fm radio, slot for microsd for pictures and music, call recording function etc. Not too bad for £40!

    Aspen

    ~£18/5L, pre-mixed and stable!
  18. If the bar's long enough often I use a regular bag (with the sheath on!) stick it through the bag straps at each side front or back and have everything else in the bag.
  19. So after the umpteenth time of having to search for a dark coloured sheath/wedge/rope etc etc, think I'm going to order some of this in fluorescent pink High Quality Aerosol Spray Colour Paint Interior Exterior For Metal Plastic Wood | eBay
  20. So they are well pricey, but has anybody tried the haix fire hero boots? I've got similar non-chainsaw boots and they're comfy dry and breathable but with all the benefits of decent wellies.
  21. Just seeing if anybody has or knows of a few pieces of ash around glasgow? Not come across any for a while and need some for tool handles and a few projects. Straight grained 6-18" or so across and 1+m long. Could be green or seasoned, even cleanish billets..
  22. Not really waterproof or shockproof, no amazing battery life, expensive and prone to damage and government surveillance
