  1. The life ambition of birch is to become soil. Someone probably sneezed near it without covering their mouth.
  2. Any drill-holes?
  3. This. Unless the customer has been particularly disgraceful to the tree, this sounds more like a case for informal advice and a note on system to confirm investigated and not in public interest to pursue.
  4. Line of trees, possibly merits tpo depending upon visibility, greater weight if only trees in area although really depends on what the threat is.
  5. Hi Ed, re: validating CA notices, surely there is a differentiation between a notice with sufficient detail and one that either does not provide sufficient information with which to identify the tree and/or describe the requested works? If there's sufficient info, it's able to be acknowledged but if not, is it not invalid? What's the terminology ? As far as I understand, the clock starts from the date that the correct level of information is received.
  6. Hi David, thanks for that. Not one of my trees so will pass onto the right person.
  7. Nah it doesnt strike me as Phellinus either hence me getting in with best guess - Fomitiporia looks to be winning now. Not seen that before.
  8. As The Shamen would say: SORTED.
  9. Saw this today on a copper beech. Kretzschmaria is having a go further up, but didn't really associate Phellinus with beech? I await correction!
  10. Have you got a pic of it in context? Clearly there is decay in the knuckles but whether this necessitates no works, reduction or felling - wouldn't be able to say yet.
  11. We had a few 261's at my last place and the needle bearings went, followed by the above. Both saws. Both new, both well maintained.
  12. Rigid brace it to the house.
  13. Mechanism could be that wild flower meadow is supported by a management plan that must be carried out in full, under a soft landscaping condition.
  14. Have you reminded the Council of the apparent contradiction? Are you still within the 28 days to appeal?
  15. You can't creep up on it and hope the ground doesn't notice you nibbling bits off the tree every few years.

    Council

Bet you couldn't do cheaper without driving yourself insane. Fixed price schedules of rates are part of the reason you see crap work from experienced contractors.
  17. Saw the leaf blower bit. I was mildly raging at the people raging at them.
  18. Plastic box hedges.
  19. They have a well stocked library with all the reading list books in there. You will also get a login for the British Standards so you can download copies so long as you promise to delete them once you finish the course
  20. I did the L4 with mw a few years ago. Back then had a great range of tutors, Jack Kenyon, Lisa Sanderson and Andy Pinder. It's only Andy left now though and I don't know who's replaced the others. Back then, it was one year for the whole course. About half completed the dip in that time. Unsure how many others completed it over the next few years. Quality of teaching was great from all. Roast of the day was always good value too.
  21. Hi, Does anyone have an Excel spreadsheet with lists of common and scientific names so that I can bung it into an inventory spreadsheet I'm working on, pleeeeaasssee! Many thanks, Adam
  22. Just out of interest, how comes that coming out?
  23. Squillions of oak flushing in Hants. More so in W. Sussex.
