  1. They chewed through that lot and another few truck loads in less than a week, this poor chap was ordered down here by swmbo with strict instructions not to return without picking up what was left

I think that law is aimed at the increased number of non ag/forestry outfits like builders who have started to use fast tractors/trailers for moving kit about. Ag/forestry/hort are still exempt. Exemptions A fast tractor will not have to undergo a commercial vehicle test if it is used: for the purposes of agricultural, horticultural, forestry, farming or fishery activity solely within the State and mainly on the land where such activity takes place, including agricultural roads, forestry roads or agricultural fields exclusively on a small island. This exclusion from the requirement for compulsory testing will apply to all of the islands off the Irish coast. It is important to note that an exemption from undergoing a commercial vehicle test is not an exemption from the requirement to ensure your vehicle is in a roadworthy condition when it is used on a public road.
  3. Just need to be sure they send out a driver that understands tree dismantles, you really dont want clumsy crane driver M&M would be my choice irrespective of distance, Sean knows and understands what he is doing. Bob Just us titting about with it in the yard, this is it full out and there is bolt on fly jib that puts another 15mts on top of that
  4. So its roadside trees, are you supplying TM? Supplying your own makes a huge difference to productivity. Bob
  5. A bit of landscaping around a new tennis court, had to lose the clay spoils from the court build and import a few hundred tons of top soil to cover it. Will be seeding this and there is a planting scheme but for the moment we are just getting all the gear in before it gets too wet.

Easiest way is at the post office Wes, fill in a v112 and use "A" as the exemption and tax it as agricultural machine. https://assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/737342/v112-declaration-of-exemption-from-mot.pdf There have been changes to this as of July of this year, a normal "B" car licence an ag vehicle over 7500kg has mileage restrictions but not if you have the correct license for the weight/combo of the vehicle. Tractor tax classes have all sorts of restrictions on weights ,mileage and uses. Ag machines under 3.5mts wide dont. Still flicking through all this so will pull down the relevant bits and paste them up later in the week. Bob
  7. Goblins seem to be shifting tons of coni atm, spotted this tiny goblin struggling with some dirty great lumps so gave her a hand. She has a small stove at home and uses it in that.

Just buy a dodge/ldv/bedford 4x4 and register it ag/forestry, then fit a tipper body. Cant get any easier and bullshit free than that. Drive on an ordinary car licence up to 31 tons, down side is no motorways. They have left this exemption in place for ag/ forestry for some strange reason but have done away with it for limited use and plant registered vehicles based on an hgv chassis. Bob You nutters out there can legally drive an MOT exempt, tax exempt, O`license and tacho exempt tug like this on a car license using red diesel if its for ag/forestry use the same as a Mog
  9. Does sound like a torsion bar problem, could well be the bar , the mounts its anchored on or on the cab end of things. Take a squint at the link below and see if you can make some sense of it. https://nissan.7zap.com/en/er/cabstar/f24m/141+1312+1608/m/952/ Bob
  10. Give Coppards a call, they have a lot of this kit for self drive or with an operator. https://www.coppard.co.uk/pages/quick-links/forestry.php Pics https://photos.google.com/share/AF1QipMc6mfYwZdWeygbu5O0hkRCXvuIpVk-Z45HnbkxxFmGJP1Xn9iA4RgdKI3IEwV1Gw?key=d0E1U0Nqc3lSYU5tSDYzZzZRUjRQMFFneU1yelNR
  11. If you can find an ali planked transit/shepra tipper body they can be disassembled very easily and trimmed down to size. Normally about £300-£500 complete with all the tipping gear and a weekends work to fit. Bob
  12. @Rough Hewn was looking at some winter work advertised on Arbtalk. The Ad read Forestry, months work for a cutter in Devon, log cabin supplied, immediate start. Rough thought that will do, it beats sleeping in the van so made contact, got the address and off he went. Drove for hours up hill and down dale and eventually with a mile still to go came to a deep running ford, he thought fuck driving through that so grabbed his kit and used the stepping stones to cross. After a long trudge up this muddy track he spotted a silver sprinter coupled to a trailer with a mini forwarder on it and thought must be getting close now , right enough a few hundred yards further on was the log cabin. By now its getting dark so Rough who is covered in shite decided to take a shower, as he gets out of the shower there is a bang on the door so he throws a towel around his waist and answers it. Stood there is a bearded 6`8” tall twenty stone monster of a bloke wearing a pink cod piece ,chequered shirt , cowboy hat and carrying a pack of beer. You fancy partying , drinking and fucking he asked, Rough thought fuck it why not there is nothing else going on around here and agrees to go , Rough asked how many going and where is it ? Big fella said just the two of us sweet cheeks right here and right now. Bob
  13. Can be Chris, a lot of MDPE mains have a tracer wire ialongside them these days so they can be traced using the genny, the genny will also sound through water in a main. Warning tapes can also have the tracer wire in them so they can be detected. Mains that are not live can also be detected with the genny through the swa, Drains and sewers can detected if a cheap roll of cable is taped to a fibreglass cable pulling roll and stuffed down them. Depth and position can also be accurately determined if you take your time to learn how to use them, the list goes on but they are a lot more than just a cable detector. Bob Service marker tapes with tracer wires https://gasproducts.co.uk/caution-buried-gas-main-detectable-underground-marker-tape.html MDPE tracer wires https://store.jdpipes.co.uk/blue-tracer-wire/ Strap a cable to one of these and shove it down any drains or pipes that need locating.
  14. A cat is not much use without a genny and neither are any use unless you know how to use one. They can do far more than just detect electricity cables . Dont forget the squeeze offs Bob
  15. Only after basic training Khriss.
  16. I suppose it depends on whether its forestry , clearance work or domestic arb, this time of year you need to be in the woods or on site at first light. For domestics I dont suppose Mrs Miggins would be best chuffed with a team firing up saws in her drive at 7am. Bob

  18. If I had you on board e6Gz I would have a pressure pad on the dash rigged up so I could monitor how long your cloggs were perched up there. Bob
  19. I have told all of them that this is happening and that we will have a week of initiation just so they can get to grips with it.I put it to them that its a way of them earning an extra few quid if they put in the hours without the need to write everything in the diary and to kick the late starters/early finishers where it hurts most . No one seems adverse to the idea. I was talking to the book keeper about the clocking in machine and workers hours , she was saying that a lot of companies track their machines and trucks. They are monitored from the time the machine starts/stops and from the moment the works truck pulls on/off site, thats a bit extreme but she was saying its completely stopped all the disputes with customers over machine drivers hours. Bob
  20. Anyone else run this system? Thought I would give this a wizz so the "last in first out" brigade were penalised accordingly. Seems a fairer way of keeping track of hours and rewarding those that put in that extra bit of time. What say the Arbtalk collective?
  21. Noticed this perched on one of the trailers, must have been the hinge from hell. About four chains died
  22. I have a dewalt 18v cordless grinder Mr flock and its not the sort of tool that would be a match for anything in the corded range. Great for occasional very small jobs like cutting wire out of a mulcher but not any good for anything that takes more than five minutes. I would have thought the 125mm range would just kill it off quicker. Bob
  23. Something like this Stubby Reg before march 1st 2015 are both mot and tax exempt. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2014-Renault-Kangoo-ML20-ZE-Electric-van-NO-VAT-NO-VAT/232955425558?hash=item363d39b316:g:K1AAAOSwgTRbuMvG:rk:2:pf:0 Blurb https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/mot-special-notice-10-18-electric-goods-vehicles-exemptions/mot-special-notice-10-18-electric-goods-vehicles-exemptions Bob
  24. A friend has bought a leccy van, I think its a Vauxhall. Sort of escort sized thing and all electric with no engine, he gets a sixty mile range out of it on a charge and is impressed with it. Does all he needs on a day to day basis and the thing is tax free and mot exempt, whats not to like? Bob
  25. The conversion is covered in here Wes ( page 26) Bob
