  1. We have ended up with a universal chain that does pretty much every thing from dragging timber to lifting and chaining down loads. They do all the jobs we need a chain for, if you need a choke just form a loop and if you need to extend just tag another on, £15 ish for a 14` long chain is not bad. They have a rating but we have never managed to break a chain or shortener, we must have about 20 of them. Bob http://arbtalk.co.uk/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=147534&stc=1&d=1391342814
  2. This debate has run in the in the arb vehicles section. Here is the download along with the form that needs to be sent off if you are to register an exemption. If its registered you wont be doing battle at these checkpoints as the information will be on the database. 3. Engine is 15" long from front pulley to the rear pulley. Bobhttp://arbtalk.co.uk/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=147400http://arbtalk.co.uk/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=147401&stc=1&d=1391250630&stc=1&d=1391250630
  4. I just bought a truck mounted insulated fridge body for my nipper to use as a shed for his motorbike, that had a fridge powerpack on it with a tiny little water cooled electric start twin cylinder yanmar/kubota diesel engine, it has a belt drive off the back. Would this do the job? Bob
  5. Dont panic because you had built them before 2012 did you not? So they will be stamped as built in 2011 wont they chaps therefor exempt from the new regulations. Bob
  6. Sat on a top seat crane in this weather is no fun:thumbdown: Its wetter than an Otters pocket . Bob
  7. Yes ,it would be good if when clicking on a topic on the home page it went to the last page and not the first. Bob
  8. Thats what Willy still uses, no ironmongery on his harness Checked the boot of his car today for his kit but its at his home but will take a snap of it when its here. Asked him his age today and he is actually 73 soon to be 74. Bob
  9. How does that affect the spares situation? We still run quite a few of these. Bob
  10. I will pull his kit out off his motor tomorrow and take a snap of it. No frills:scared1: Bob Edit . where is Rhys Brace he has worked with him .
  11. I have a Willy Mathews working for me , he is 72 and still climbs. Only on the odd occasions now but still does it. The bloke is a legend. Bob
  12. If its quiet you want the hydraulic saw is a good idea but like already said the petrol powerpack will still be noisy, why not go for the electric powerpack? That would be the best of both worlds. They are made in single phase as well. Bob Hire 3 phase Electric Powered Hydraulic Power Unit Power Pack 140bar | eBay
  13. I bought a Kubota B6200 way back in 1989 and had the front loader , backhoe and lawn tyres fitted at the same time. Really has been a great bit of kit , it will dig down 3mts which is more than many mini diggers and the front loader is good for about 250kg. The hydraulics on the tractor can handle the front loader but the backhoe has a pump off the pto. The whole thing goes about 2 ton and is only 4` wide. Bob
  14. . I think this particular exemption fits the local arb guy, the materials on the truck are normally going back to the yard for further process which in my view is still in the course of his work. It wont cover delivering logs or other products for reward etc but they would probably go out on a smaller truck., registering the exemption is important though. The bowser units we have run on the same exemption and we dont have to empty them of water for the journey home. If in doubt seek clarification . All said and done these exemptions are intended to help those that dont primarily drive for a living and only use the truck locally . Bob
  15. Its not made easy but the downloads are there for all to read. As said Tacho exemption 5 would cover most local arb guys running 7.5 tons, its not a get out its a clearly written exemption. Bob https://www.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/210068/hgv-tachograph-exemption-declaration-form.pdf 5. Vehicle is not over 7500kg GVW or is part of a combination of vehicles not over 7500 kg combined GVW which is used to carry materials equipment or machinery for the driver s use in the course of his work within a 50 km radius of base and where driving is not the driver s main activity
  16. A few tacho exemptions that exist might be of interest to some, 5 ,6. and maybe 17. If the form is filled in and sent off Vosa will have it on their database as exempt, we have used it on our bowsers etc. Bob https://www.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/210068/hgv-tachograph-exemption-declaration-form.pdf
  17. I dont understand the mentality of the dealers, warranty work is paying work so what is the difference. Car dealers dont have issues carrying out warranty work on vehicles they have not supplied so why should tool and equipment suppliers. Bob
  18. The great unwashed and ill bred part of society will always launch their crud onto the street. Its all part of their upbringing, they are a bit like a dog thats not house trained. There is quite a bit of road frontage to this place and I reckon i could fill a bin bag a week with low life`s discarded food wrappers ,drink cans and fag packets. Its all in the breeding Bob
  19. The tacho and filling it out is a 60 second job and can actually help you if you have a prang, it can confirm speeds and braking very accurately. A friend of mine had a head on down a country lane with a dick that thought he was Shumacher , the blame fest ensued and it was the tacho put the blame very firmly with the car driver. There are a few exemptions for the O license if you read through them, I am not suggesting anyone should make them fit but if you have a yard on a farm and all your waste wood/chip is wanted by the farmer , make your own mind up. http://www.genquip.co.uk/downloads/Vehicles_Exempt_From_Operator_Licensing_Requirements.pdf From this. 2. 20. Like the two and a half hours I had to wait a few weeks ago while dog walkers returned to their abandoned cars so I could get our kit out of a woodland. Sorry does not cut it. Bob

I am sick as well , have been building V8 monsters for the last 30 years.
  22. A mate of mine went on a stag do to Prague. The groom had no idea what they had staged, they were driving from the airport down a country lane and were ambushed by what looked like the Mafia. They were all made to lay face down in a field with guns to the backs of their heads , the groom actually messed himself while the others were having trouble holding back the laughter. The guy with gun to the grooms head just said in broken english "welcome to Prague" Then on to a hotel with drink and whores A little bit like this but a lot stronger Groom's terror as he is kidnapped by 16 masked men in stag prank while driving with his fiancee in country lane | Mail Online Bob
  23. We have a diesel one that the boys could not kill, the back started looking really tatty so we took it off and its now been converted into a bowser. Supertough truck with a good engine, rust would be the only thing to watch out for. Bob
