  1. Had this to deal with the other day so we made it safe and waited for the winds to die down a bit. http://arbtalk.co.uk/forum/picture-forum/66232-storm-pictures-put-them-here-18.html Decision was made to crane it down but could not get near the job because of the amount of room a normal crane needs with all its legs out. A mate of mine has got a tractor unit with a monster Hiab on it that can lift 4 ton at a staggering 50` so down he came. First job was to crane it off the roof by lifting the whole tree over the stack. We then backed up our truck and craned off the top in sections while he held it. While he was there we got him to tear out the stumps. Nice lorry and crane but at £250k I dont think I will be buying one http://arbtalk.co.uk/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=144930&shttp://arbtalk.co.uk/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=144931http://arbtalk.co.uk/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=144932&stc=1&d=1388581814&stc=1&d=1388581814tc=1&d=1388581814http://arbtalk.co.uk/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=144933&stc=1&d=1388581814
  2. Its funny you should pop that question because a bloke turned up in a minibus the other day and asked for 20 bags and we stuffed them into just about every nook and cranny to get them in . I was thinking then we are probably giving them away because it looked like a darn site more logs than a mate of mine delivers out for £80. A local garden center has pallets of 40 off us and they sit on the euro pallet about 4`x 3` stacked to about 5` high. Bob
  3. £3 a bag or two for £5 .We are not big into logs because we sell all our wood , we do about 50 ton at the gate most years because we have main road frontage. Thats just off a small sign saying bagged logs for sale. Bob
  4. We use the orange 25kg bags. The green ones fall apart Firewood Sacks log sacks vegetable sacks carrots onions kindling wood bags Bob
  5. +1 on this. I always reckon on 100hp per meter cut with a mulcher so 1.2mtr for a flail on 75hp would be the max. What the smaller machines lack in grunt they make up for in agility so I would go for less cut and run over it twice. Bob
  6. I like all the stinking cheese but back to the most boring and it has to be the plastic wrapped processed crud Bob http://arbtalk.co.uk/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=144770&stc=1&d=1388443366
  7. I know of 2 places that are running the farm 2000 boilers, they have them in sheds away from the house and only have to load them 2 times a week. They will burn massive lumps of timber that take two people to lift in. http://www.farm2000.co.uk/farm2000.co.uk/F2000_Batch_files/ECONOMY%20BROCHURE%200711.pdf Bob
  8. If you dont ask you wont get. PM your contact number to me and I will add you to my book of timber dumps:) This was posted a while ago http://arbtalk.co.uk/forum/general-chat/64490-my-husband-said-i-should-wait.html So I chucked off a few sticks in passing and picked up a mug of tea,a dozen eggs and some nice apples. It worked for both of us. Bob
  9. I am going for the changeover switch, all said and done its only £200 for a decent three phase unit and the whole yard is sorted. We have one of those massive diesel tow along lighting towers and the generator on that is a silent pack three phase unit, I will have a chat with the sparks and see about making up some leads off of that. I dont understand where the earth comes from on a genny , is it not really the same as the neutral? Bob

  11. I just cut down a £300 transit tipper body, it was complete with the hydraulics and motor. if you get the Ali one it all comes apart easily and cuts down with a hard point saw. I never bothered with the chip box because we sometimes need it as a pick up , we just have two tatty old bits of ply bolted in ( must change them they look hideous). It will carry a ton if the weight is pushed right to the front. Bob
  12. The house supply comes from the three phase board in the workshop and can be easily isolated so no danger of a shock or touching the suppliers equipment but I think the switchover gadget is going to be a must have because every time the wind blows we are out Bob
  13. Steve where do you get a change over switch from? We were out for three days so I just pulled the tails from the board and shoved the genny wires in there but one of those would save heaps of agg. Bob
  14. Tough one this and many here can relate to the problem, without repeating the advice given here I would add never underestimate the amount of extra staff needed to keep a dangerous work zone clear of the general public. I can think of dozens of issues we have had with dog walkers, ramblers etc that disregard barrier tape and warning signs. Really to play it safe in a publicly accessible site you probably need an extra man at every possible entry point that has a well mannered and polite persuasive demeanor, oiks dont work and normally end up in confrontation and causing more issues. Bob
  15. I will get some snaps of them. Both have nasty cabs which is why they are pushed to the back of the yard but last week just by chance a complete rust free rb44 cab turned up on ebay so I bought it. As the cabs only held on with a few bolts I will let the fitter loose on it for a few days and rig up the tipper body. One was a gulley sucker and the other had some weird recovery contraption on the back , both have pto hydraulics, one has a massive hydraulic winch on the front and the other has a pto flange on the transfer box that ran the gulley sucker. I will be well chuffed if that comes in at the 3.5 ton mark, that will give it a decent payload. Bob Cab I bought http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/REYNOLDS-BOUGHTON-RB44-COMPLETE-CAB-RENAULT-DODGE-PERKINS-GOOD-CONDITION-/321275167951
  16. I just checked the plates and they are both the same at 7.5ton gvw with 11ton train. Just checked the mileage and both have done virtually nothing. Bob http://arbtalk.co.uk/forum/attachment.php?http://arbtalk.co.uk/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=144554&stc=1&d=1388271318attachmentid=144552&stc=1&d=1388271234
  17. Gray I bought 2 of these RB44 trucks a few years ago and they are festering in the corner of the yard , they are civvy ones with twin wheel rear axles. After seeing yours I think I will stick one of them on the road , what I need to know is what they weigh empty. The plate just states the gvw as 7.5ton and 11ton train weight so I would like to know whats left for load. Bob
  18. Its probably ok but who would rubber stamp this one:).The 7meter overall length for a car trailer is one thing and also fitting a home grown towbar to the back of a trailer may have issues both in construction and in increasing the trailers possible gross weight especially with what is in effect another unbraked trailer behind it. Could you take a vid of your first attempt at backing that lot into a parking space Bob
  19. I have two guys that work for me that are north of 70, always the first in the yard and last out. Also better work ethics than some of the clock watching nippers. Bob
  20. I know 40mph winds are "nowt" for you northerners but we are soft southerners In fairness to Bob the thing was like a bucking bronco in that wind. Bob
  21. 60` pine came to rest on the roof of this house and another crashed down the side. Brown trouser moment for the climber taking out the top with the winds still at 40 ish mph, tree made safe and will crane it off the house monday. Bob http://arbtalk.co.uk/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=144435&stc=1&d=13881http://arbtalk.co.uk/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=144436&stc=1&d=13http://arbtalk.co.uk/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=144437&stc=1&d=1http://arbtalk.co.uk/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=144438&stc=1&d=1http://arbtalk.co.uk/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=144439&stc=1&d=13881814303881813243881812148818112480954
  22. Adapted mower blade grinder, takes any blade and can do six timberwolf blades in one go ( takes less than five minutes). Fully automatic and adjustable , well under a grand. Has been doing a good job of our blades for over 15 years. Bob http://arbtalk.co.uk/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=144134&stc=1&d=1387914456
  23. Its not all about money, I have been out this morning shunting trees off the road with the telehandler. At least folk, the bus and trucks could get on their way. Its bad enough round here with no power for 15 hours plus so glad to offer something for the locals. Just rigged up the genny to get the fridge lights and heating back on. Its going to be bleak for some. Bob
  24. Some one wanted this wood delivered today.Try sitting on a top seat crane for half an hour in 70mph winds whilst be drowned. Guess where the wood still is Bobhttp://arbtalk.co.uk/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=144043&stc=1&d=1387835189
  25. There used to be restrictions on distance but not any more, I think it became unworkable with agri contractors. Bob Article from the below. Gillian Cheatley Senior Technical officer of the UFU explained, "We have had a number of members who were stopped recently by both PSNI and HMRC, in relation to the distance they had travelled on red diesel. An appeared mix up in the interpretation of the legislation has lead to a number of farmers being stopped and cautioned. We were pleased to be able to clarify to our members that a tractor which has been taxed as an agricultural vehicle may be used on the public road for agricultural use and are permitted to use red diesel. There is no limit to the distance that such a vehicle may travel. We have since spoken to the PSNI and HMRC and clarified these issues". The facts of tractors and use of red diesel - Farming Life
