  1. Kieth Curtis of Honeysuckle sawmill fame ran a 48" ish stenner totally non electric. He had a 40hp tractor pto driving it and ran the hydraulic bed off the tractor. Bob
  2. Once referred to by an industrialist twenty years ago as the yellow peril, wise words from a man that warned of this and now its here. The Chinese have massive resources behind them which are being ploughed into their manufacturing industry, the sweat shops of yesteryear are fast being replaced with massive modern automated plant. The cheap and nasty image of the goods is also rapidly changing, the speed at which they modify/improve their products is astounding. The outcome of all of this is beyond me but one thing is for sure it will destroy the economies of the western world. Bob
  3. As above ,if your not worried about being in a fashion parade and just want a good reliable truck thats probably the best on fuel out of all of them go for it. The animals we have driving could not kill off the one we have. Bob
  4. If you are serious about using a 360 with a mulcher head you are better off fitting the extra pump either to the front of the engine or add a section to the original. To use one that has the mod is the difference between night and day, the bigger later machines have computerised flow control via a variable displacement pump so are not a problem. Below is our small seppi mulcher that has a variable displacement drive motor ( the small lever on top of the motor) which can be trimmed to suit the flow rates from one too three ton machines. 5. Here are some stats DrugScope | DRUG INFORMATION | How many people use drugs? On these stats alone we have a possible problem with at least two or three staff, this is not the case to the best of my knowledge but probable. Without a system for testing your own guys you are better of being blissfully ignorant and praying you are right. In saying that dont be shocked if proven otherwise. Bob
  6. We have both the hand held and bench jobs and I have had to confiscate them from the saw shed. Unless you get one guy trained up to use it and dont let anyone else touch it you will be getting through a lot more chains. There is a tendency to rub off a lot more chain than necessary. Bob

  8. As I stood swaying from side to side at the British Airways ticket desk last night, the guy looked at me and said, "Can I help?" "Yes," I slurred, unzipping my superman costume and pulling my wallet out, "One ticket to Amsterdam please." "You're unable to fly, sir." he replied, "You're far too drunk." I said, "I know mate, that's why I'm getting a plane." Bob
  9. You wont be disappointed with that , a friend got a cracking deal from a local dealer on one of those and he said it was cheap enough to run till the wheels fell off. Its run faultlessly for over three years now and its good on fuel. Bob
  10. Drink and drug abuse is all around us unless you are running about with your eyes wide shut . If you tried to eliminate those that do or dont drink, smoke or take drugs you are in for small pickings for your workforce. What someone does for recreational purposes in their own time is their own business as long as the problem stays at home and is not brought to work. On a recent site induction ( two mind numbing hours ) it was the main contractors policy in the event of "ANY" accident to shut the site gate and muster the entire workforce to one point where they were to stay while a medic was called to /drinkdrugs test every single person . This was company policy and it was a take it or leave it signed agreement on the day. Its things like this that would have implications for users and would get them on the black register. Bob
  11. Well spotted that man the old cookes winch they came off was on the back of our drott. Bob
  12. I think I must have built the first 360 mulcher ever. It was an idea a mate of mine had over thirty years ago while clearing motorway banks all over the place. I built a 1mtr,1,5mtr and a 2mtr.Its how I ended up in this game. Going back then the diggers had no oil flow to the third service when slewing so we had to fit a separate pump to the engine just for the mulcher head. The bigger ones had to have a separate engine/powerpack on a cradle just to run the hydraulics because it would cook the machines. Here is a pic of the 1mtr which is still in use today, not bad when you think I made it thirty years ago. I think my mate should have taken a patent out as it was his idea. 13. Yes john it holds 60 cube of chip so it saves a load of running about. We use it for chip and all the chogs. There is two loads of chip on that job plus a bin of chogs then I have to get the timber trailer in there for two loads . Fecking peers. Bob Bob
  14. I had to back our 40`artic tipping trailer which is 8` wide between two piers 8`2" apart in a residential street the other day. Tight was an understatement Bob http://arbtalk.co.uk/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=140520&stc=1&d=1384471295http://arbtalk.co.uk/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=140521&stc=1&d=1384471295
  15. Some of our old Nuffield winch tractor. Bobhttp://arbtalk.co.uk/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=140518&stc=1&d=1384471007http://arbtalk.co.uk/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=140519&stc=1&d=1384471007
  16. I reckon you would be in for a big shock if all workers were tested for drink, drugs and puff . Especially when you think that some of these drugs will still test positive weeks after they are used. Probably loose half the workforce . Bob
  17. He is a bit close to the overhead cables Bob
  18. Bottom line is a team is a team and need to work as such, our lot seem to work out their own differences to the point of being judge ,jury and executioners. One little fresh faced college boy had to have his cheeks warmed up with the back of the climbers hand only a few weeks ago, he now has got the message and is a liked hard working team player . Although I dont condone this type of behavior it has turned a situation around that otherwise would have led to the kid being sacked and he now understands how things work in a team which college fail to teach them. Bob
  19. A bit related to this post but not the thread. I have saved a fortune on running about for bits by getting the full blown spares/workshop manual CD off the internet. It gives you a workshop manual for all the Husky/Stihl products including the leaf blowers which also includes all the part numbers. It costs about £20, so now I just phone through the part numbers and the CORRECT bits duly turn up. Before this over the years I must have amassed at least 1k in wrongly ordered parts which was a combination of dealer error and my blokes asking for the wrong parts. From this i have printed off and laminated the relevant pages for workshop use. Bob
  20. Use them or loose them !!!!!!!! You are right on this but if they offered a bit more in discount they would have all the market and the Internet sales would fold. Bob
  21. Neat work boys, all you need now is Wurzle Gummage off time team in there for a few days. Bob
  22. Dual mass is the work of the devil. The one below (vw) exploded and the guts of it came through the bellhousing. Bob
  23. Thats typical of what I charge for the low loader , forwarders, tractors and other forestry kit that are covered in cr@p take ages to clean up and load. If its just a matter of taking a tractor from point A to point B and there is no hurry just put the request out there, with a bit of luck you may get it moved a lot cheaper if someone is going that way empty. Good luck. Bob
  24. About £350 for half a day. Bob
