  1. I have not weighed it with the tipper body but standard they are about 1250kg and the double cab is about 1420kg. It carries a ton with no issues on the standard springs. Toyota Hilux Double Cab specifications, data, images, photos 35893 Bob
  2. I have about 15 sticks 5` plus in diameter and between 2 and 3 meters long. They are not in the way but could do with them shifted in the next six months. Nr jct 10 of the m25 Bob jpg.gif 001.jpg (104.1 KB) jpg.gif 007.jpg (95.4 KB) jpg.gif 011.jpg (173.7 KB) jpg.gif 006.jpg (130.2 KB)
  3. Not as good as a landy but when the back body on the Hilux lost its newness I bought a transit tipper body and had our fitter mash it onto the back. If you get the ali floor one , it disassembled a bit like tongue and groove flooring making for a very easy chop. Works a treat on the truck but only good for carrying one ton. 4. GDC have a bigger version of the one below on a 20 ton excavator. it would romp through that pile in a morning. It would be the logistics that kill using it on a small amount of timber. The good thing about the pincer type cracker is it doubles up as a grab making light work of splitting and restacking. It makes the screw type splitters look painfully slow. 5. In this area he would have to chip 900 tons to cover the £2 per ton you get round here then you would have to load that onto 30 of Stobarts trucks for nothing. I know prices vary up and down the country but around here the only outlet for chip was Slough power station which stopped burning biomass and have gone onto burning rubbish waste. They no longer need to pay for chip as they can charge money for burning waste. The logistics of running the chip now to the nearest power station means there is virtually no money in it other than the transport costs, enter Stobart. Bob
  6. We get around £15 a ton for softwood roadside, it might be worth looking at getting a small grab. The Biomass industry has got everyone into the chip market spending fortunes on chippers in the hope of good returns ,they have then pulled the plug. You have to feel for those on the bigger end of the scale with hundreds of thousands tied up in the game getting nothing for the product it will probably take a few under. Bob
  7. Its because of this we chip the absolute minimum. All the crap from 70-500mm gets cut into 2.7 - 3 meter lengths and stacked, at least you get paid a decent return on it.Its much better than £60 for 30 ton of chip and you have to load it. A bit more work but worth it. Bob
  8. Its generally accepted that there is 2/2.5 cubic meters of chip per ton depending on what it is http://arbtalk.co.uk/forum/general-chat/7002-weight-woodchip.html Weights of wood http://arbtalk.co.uk/forum/forestry-woodland-management/13148-timber-weight-m3.html. You can reduce the bulk of lop and top but you are fluffing up cord when its chipped. Our trailer is 60 cubic meters and it feels like its empty when full of chip compared to when its stacked out with rings and chogs.
  9. We have a 4x4 mk bedford watering unit and we taxed that under "limited use" That is still tax free and MOT exempt. Agricultural, horticultural and forestry vehicles exempt from vehicle tax | nidirect. Bob
  10. A cubic meter of timber weighs between 1 and 2 tons depending what it is, that will make about twice that volume when chipped. The only wood that will reduce in volume is the lop and top. To shift 6 ton of chip you will need at least a 15 cubic meter trailer Bob
  11. A 30 ton of cord takes up a lot less space on a truck than 30 ton of woodchip. Bob
  12. Nice looking bit of kit, I think the extra bit behind the cab would be a big plus in this game for storing saws etc. My only concern would be that whatever is not on the truck as delivered will cost a small fortune to retrofit. What looks like a cheap mog now might end up running away a bit, the best placed person to discuss this with would be Frank Atkinson Atkinson Vos Ltd Mercedes Unimogs Also you might want to look at the running costs as well as merc spares seem to be very over the top, we run three agri spec mogs and everything you want seems to cost a fassand pand they dont seem to change this price structure. Bob
  13. Its also worth pointing out that a four wheel drive tractor as a general rule can only legally tow twice it own weight. Two wheel drive tractors can generally tow 60% of their weight. So a six ton tractor with a twelve ton trailer is on the limit and its only allowed a three ton drawbar weight weight as a max. Traffic plod round here know all about this and are all over the tractors like a bag of fleas. Bob Bob
  14. We like tractors that float so we bought a stalwart to go with the rest of our floating arb stuff. 5 Ton payload in the water and off road, currently awaiting a cummins diesel engine to replace the straight eight rolls petrol lump. Bob Going in Coming out
  15. That tractor has fallen into cesspits, air raid shelters , ponds ,swamps, peat bogs, army dugouts, and just about anything thats hidden by a 20` high screen of Vegetation , oh and stumps:), that hydraulic winch is always pulling the tractor off the stumps the harvesting guys cant be arsed to cut down to a decent level:thumbdown: Bob
  16. Its a 3125 with the pump cranked up to make 160hp at the shaft. The same engine can go to 200 ish hp but I think it would start to bust things in the driveline. Trelleborg made the tyres as a one off for us, went from punctures every week to having one in seven years and that was a 20mm lump of reo bar on a building site. Bob
  17. Here you go then. Possibly the toughest tractor ever built , this massey 6pot turbo has done a staggering 11000 hours of mulching. Its out every day up to its nuts in lop and top after the harvesters have been in or Rhoddy bashing. It never stops being hammered. 15mm belly plated and caged. Bob
  18. Hook lift trailers , now your cooking:) Budget permitting its the way to go, It gives you every option, a few different bins and a flat bed. Just imagine how easy that would be for loading a dirty great big stump or a digger. We had a 15 ton lorry with one on and we used to chain up massive stumps and rip them straight out of the ground then just carry on to the rest position , a few ratchet straps and go. The nuts of all trailer systems. Bob
  19. The only problem I can see in messing with the vin plate is that the MOT brake test is a function of the plated weight. So in effect the tester will require enough brakes to match the increase. On our trucks some of the pass values for the brakes are exactly the same as the test result so an increase in plated weight in these circumstances would result in a brake fail situation on test day . Just thoughts. Bob
  20. Our old rayco direct drive grinder takes some beating. It goes on the back of the mog or telehandler. Hydraulic pushout of about six feet and enough scope to knock out 5feet plus stumps without moving. 7`6" wide and 7` tall so its a squeeze through a garden gate:001_tongue:. It monsters stumps tirelessly all day. Bob
  21. It is the way to go, thieves operate on the dual carriageway`s and motorways round here and empty loads like this off your truck as it goes along. Well thats what I think happens to it:blushing: bob
  22. Thats about what I paid for this old mower grinder. I just ripped off all the mower gadgets and fitted a plate for bolting down the blades. Its fully automatic just set it up and it auto feeds left , right and in. I can put six sets of timberwolf blades at a time in it and walk away.Worth looking out for one of these if you have the space. Bobhttp://arbtalk.co.uk/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=133214&stc=1&d=1377519647
  23. What about the milemarker winch that takes the hydraulics from the power steering pump. Big weight saving and less complicated hydraulics. Bob
  24. Our guy that runs about doing the estimating must have a 99% success rate on his applications. I think its more to do with being realistic in the first place, he always contacts the tree officer before putting in the application and normally meets them on site. Clients wanting massive crown reductions just have to be patient and accept they will only be allowed a tickle at best but do it in two hits, no one is running about with a tape measure so the boundary of a crown reduction is down to the climber on the day, 10% could easily end up 15/20% providing he is sensible and doesnt butcher the tree. Bob
  25. This gadget on the front of our sambron will pick up 4`+ diameter sticks and go down to stuff 6". It will also grab up brash and doubles up as a forklift. This thing goes on virtually every job we do.
