  1. One of our customers has bought a few sticks off us and it transpires he has been making wine racks from them. He showed them to me and was chatting about how hard it was using a drill, he had burned out a few. I suggested he tried the wolf gut buster from our workshop and it apparently it breezes through it, you need to make sure it does not snag because if the bit stops its you that rotates at 600rpm. In return he has loaned me the 92mm bit so I will have a go at making one.
  2. Ipad has no flash so I have a lot of blank snaps:thumbdown: Here is twonks car with all the air bags down ( whats left of it ) Wombles and just about everyone else in the world. Barrier repair lads. Because it was all contained within the TM area it was all done and dusted with 2 hours. Bob
  3. This must be about right because I used red in an old lorry on the farm for about 2 years just as a dumper. When I put it back on the road I emptied the fuel and stuck a can of white in it to run it down for test, it was stopped by C+E and was ok so that small trace which was the capacity of the filters and pipes is not enough for them to worry about. Bob
  4. The RAMS for that job would have made an interesting read Al with the Avant running that close to the empty pool The only problem with introducing kit like that is the lads begin to expect it on every job and can end up a little workshy. We have a thing called a Schaffer but the cg is a lot higher than the Avant which makes it a bit unstable on rough ground , low cg is really important if you are thinking of buying something along these lines. The Schaffer has been on its side on more than one occasion. http://arbtalk.co.uk/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=159194&stc=1&d=1402831547 Bob
  5. I dont understand what the fuss is all about, anyone using red or white is paying tax but at a different rate . Diesel comes out of the refinery at around 12p a liter so after that figure the rest is distribution , forecourt profit and tax. Whatever we are using be it red or white is a legit business expense which we firstly claim the VAT back from and the difference is knocked off the taxable profit. Most farmers run the flat rate VAT system where they claim non of VAT back but still claim all of the fuel costs back from the taxable profit. Its just a tax merry go round. And while we are giving the farmers a bashing spare a thought for those that are not having it off that resort to this. Its not all a bowl of cherries pardon the pun. 7. It's getting better , Twonk has just been and blown positive so he can add DD to his totalled car. Bob
  8. You need to see this to believe it. TM is down to one lane and Twonk who fortunately is ok reckons someone went to overtake him, kin knob:thumbdown: Anyway all hell has kicked off now ,the traffic wobbles ,TM,police, fire brigade and an ambulance all turned up:lol: Bob
  9. First bit of excitement , boy racer has just demolished a section of barrier here on the m25 , less than 5 minutes ago there were ten guys stood there with strimmers a tractor and a gulley sucker. Twonk could have killed the lot of them :thumbdown:How do you get an I pad to take a night picture? Bob
  10. While you lot are sleeping I have to ferry this beast of a fast track round sections of the M25 for my mate who has a night time grass cutting contract. Booooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooring finished at 5.30am this morning and am out again two more nights  I have got my Ipad so I can still spy on you lot Bob
  11. I know these threads go around in circles on this but as you stated a mog is allowed on the motorway but only if it is registered PLG or goods. By taxing it as an ag vehicle you are running red diesel, paying no road tax and not having to plate it or run on an operators license. I run mogs and there is no way will I go on the motorways round here after the last runnings we had with VOSA . As I put on a previous post it was only because of a timed out court case that we were not fined for numerous offences including the drivers license not covering him for that weight of vehicle. They are a bit more on it in these parts which is why you will not see any ag vehicles including mogs on the motorways. You cant have your cake and eat it. Bob
  12. I had a quick squint under the 7.5 ton RB and it has a completely different type of back axle, the fronts are the same. There are no tags to indicate what ratios they are but a quick look on the dodge 50 site seems to indicate there are two ratios available and they are 4.9 and 5.3 . I dont know which ones are in the 5.5 ton rb. Will keep digging. Bob
  13. No but the tipper body has a telescopic tipping ram which I am going to liberate to replace the pathetic scissor affair thats on our transit. Not much on the truck at the time but 30mts of skid marks prior to impact puts his speed at over thirty:lol: Bob
  14. My mates lad took his transit out and did this to it. He told his dad he was doing 30mph.( yeah right ) Good job there were no passengers they would have lost their legs .ironically he hit a parked ambulance. What do you reckon 50mph? Bob
  15. We only have the one guy driving that car and thats what he reckons it at. He fills it up once a week and hes in the thing most of the time, he has put over 150.000 miles on it in the four years he has had it. I will monitor it next week and report back but dont be surprised if that he is right. Bob The 2.2 td4 automatic freelanders achieve 50mpg figure and that is a bigger heavier car on a auto box. LAND ROVER FREELANDER REVIEWS The Land Rover Freelander is Land Rover’s smallest SUV and is available in both two- and four-wheel drive variants. The Land Rover Freelander was updated in 2006 and the current model is known as the Freelander 2. The compact SUV is available with a range of petrol and diesel engines and is surprisingly frugal, capable of nearly 50mpg combined. Despite its compact size the Land Rover Freelander is still a fearsome offroad performer. Land Rover Freelander prices start at around £22,000. 16. Take some legal advice on this because you cant take an agricultural vehicle on the motorway , the government changed the law on this with section 253. https://www.gov.uk/motorways-253-to-273/general-253-to-254 You can however register a mog as a truck but then all the weight restrictions, plating,o license, white diesel and taxation class will be the same as a truck. Road legality of farm machines a costly issue for contractor | Features | Farmers Guardian We have been on the wrong end of this and its not a grey area at all its in black and white. Just because someone drove past a police car without being pulled on the motorway does not mean they are allright. Bob
  17. +1 and dont forget the refresher courses, We have 3 first aiders , when the refresher courses come up its surprising how techniques and methods change in time. None of us feel its a waste of time. On one of the replies here there was mention of a tourniquet to stem a serious arterial bleed, this was the standard on the first course but on the last refresher its was last thing you do . 4 Ways to Apply a Tourniquet - wikiHow Bob
  18. GDG were re screening arb arisings for power station use but that stopped when the power stations started to get paid to incinerate household waste. Stobbarts now run arb chip abroad so there is a market for it but its a logistcal nightmare. Bob
  19. I watched a program years a ago about a guy that ran a saw mill off of big diesels and they too had this problem off blocking rads. They were having lots of down time blowing them out and he invented a fan that automatically reversed its pitch so it sucked for a time and then blew . Sorted I wonder when an idea like that will find its way into the chipper market. Bob
  20. We have a chip dump just down the road and the guy is filled to the brim with the stuff. If it was not for a bit of gate money for the dumping of it he would not be able to warrant leaving a machine on the pile to load the Stobbart trucks as and when they decide they will grace his presence. The quality of chipped arb arisings is poor, lots of chogs ,tools ,rubble , litter and a high leaf content which all contribute to its poor value. If I had walking floor I would run it down to the docks but they wont allow normal tippers in a lot of these places now and with the poor return I cant substantiate the spend. Bob http://arbtalk.co.uk/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=158419&stc=1&d=1402125512
  21. Its value changes by region, in Surrey its been 0-£3 a ton for a long time and worse still you have to load them for that. We have for a long time now been sorting the timber into either log wood or chip wood stacks both of which have a market . Chip the bare minimum because chipped arb arisings are worthless and a liability so not worth giving it the yard space. Bob
  22. I bought a disco commercial from Northern Island and that was straight forward, but that said it was in the days dvla had the local offices with all the associated help , now they are all closed down you will be stuck on the phone to some brain dead faceless twonk from Swansea. Bob
  23. You can always employ guys that have an hgv license to work for you. I have four guys that all have their licences to drive over the weight trucks. It does not command a premium and you can then have the correct truck rather than a make do. I think a ten tonner is the bare minimum in this game. Bob
  24. We run 2 freelander commercials and they have been no problem at all. That td4 version returns 50+ mpg and will scramble around just about everywhere it needs to . They are a very car like motorway cruiser as well. as said it wont make a tow barge but just for surveying or the cutters to run about in I would highly recommend one. Bob
  25. We use a small timberwolf when we clear and island for ground nesting birds and that thing eats all the grass, twigs, sticks etc without blocking. for a small lightweight machine I think they are good. Why not hire and try few different types before you buy? Bob http://arbtalk.co.uk/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=158266&stc=1&d=1401967446
