  1. 036 was flooding and being a pig to start so I had another look at it today. The fast idle position on the choke was not opening the choke flap enough so I bent the choke linkage and the throttle a bit as well and it's different altogether now firing up and picking up nicely.
  2. You don't need to swap the switch just bypass it and switch it at the wall. I did it with my pillar drill when the zero volt switch failed. Two thin bits of metal to join the spade connectors together and if it runs you know it's the switch. If it's clunking it's not the switch. You only need an analogue tester set to something like 10,000 ohms to bridge the contacts and watch the needle jump up then come back down if it's still good. If it's bad the needle stays up as it's not discharging.
  3. I am still getting the bubble and if I go to login I get Access Denied This forum is currently not available, please try again later. I wondered if it's because my phone is old and the latest Ios update is not available for it.
  4. We get a wren in the lean to most evenings, comes in and looks round all the eaves for insects then either get comfortable or leaves. When the young ones fligged they all came in with her and they were hopping into everything looking for the way back out till I opened the door for them.
  5. Still same no topics bubble.
  6. Just deleted and reinstalled the app and it just has a bubble now with no topics under it. Tried to sign in and is now says access denied. This forum is currently unavailable, please try again later. I read on the PC mostly so not a big problem and the mobile site view on the tablet is quite good.
  7. As long as they stop before they breach the cylinder wall they should be fine. You were lucky to spot the crack through all that gunge
  8. I always use carb cleaner to clean carbs when I strip them, fire it through all the channels and fit new diaphragm etc. Do you mean easy start?
  9. My iphone 4s just says error domain = tapatalk... when I try to open a topic.
  10. That's like this seized 044 I just did. It was full of greasy sawdust and the flywheel side needed a shovel to clean it out it was so full of something like soil you could hardly see the ignition coil, don't know what it had been cutting. Brake cleaner and air line then a paint brush to get in the corners and it looks like somebody loves it now.
  11. Start/run capacitor on the motor would be my first port of call Steve. It's the round thing with two wires going to it. Read the numbers off the old one and order the same, I got one for my pressure washer for £6 from the local electrical supplier when it started to go clunk instead of firing up. You could bypass the switch and just switch it at the wall to eliminate it from the list.
  12. It takes about 15 minutes to remove and strip a carb, procrastinating about what else you should do will not get it fixed. Find out what kind of carb it has and order a kit for it (usually under £10 sometimes under £5) then if that doesn't work start looking for other options.
  13. Are ticks a real risk for climbers, I thought they were more of a low level threat
  14. Not Echo but I've used a couple of same saws and they develop their own characteristics and the brake is one part that never feels the same on two saws. You sometimes have to snap the brake all the way back to the top handle to release it and then only have to move another one back a couple of inches. Use it and get used to it.

    Stihl 051AV

Drain the chain oil out of it just to see if it will run longer without any, a couple of minutes not cutting will not hurt. You'll most likely have to do something with the carb before it will run properly anyway.
  16. Just been watching Yesterday channel on freesat and Stihl sponsor on there. Not seen this before. They also pronounce it differently more like Shteel and they were promoting their garden tools.
  17. I have Meindl, they take some breakin in.
  18. See, 65 and still learning, that's the power of the internet.
  19. Good tip I was given a long time ago "always put thy barrow near thy muck"
  20. I always lift the bar nose when tightening the nuts but I have found also on my saw that if I tighten the front nut first it makes the chain feel tighter again so I nip the back nut first and it stays the same tension. Broken adjuster would explain the loosening
  21. We used to wash with Swarfega and moulding sand at the foundry, it cleaned your hands by removing the top layer of skin Microbeads have turned up in seafood and all over the place so it is a good thing getting rid of them.
  22. I put a carb kit in my 036 today. It wouldn't tick over or run apart from flat out. I stripped the carb and it was full of oiled up dust, first time I had it apart and now it runs really nicely. The seized 044 I bought has a new piston and clutch, cleaned the cylinder up and it runs well. It has the 18" 036 bar on but I have a 20" coming for it then need to find some wood to try it on.
  23. Have you tried changing the forum view to list so it looks like the old style. At the top of the page on the right click the box with three lines instead of the four squares.
  24. Just clicked my usual link to the site and got the database instead of opening the home page.
  25. I've just started getting notifications popping up with an annoying boing. Now disabled in settings. When did they get enabled ?
