There's a bag of cement and a stack of bricks in my yard that's not worth a penny more than when I put them there, probably a damn sight less as the cement has probably set. Property is alright as long as you have a lot of it and good tenants in it. The house next door but one is rented and the tenant before last left it needing £4000 in repairs. I wouldn't want the hassle of chasing someone with nothing to get some of it back. It's in the hands of a letting agent and they don't care who they put in.

There's a big spike every time you arc up, probably I got the wrong name for it but if you weld on home electricity it can trip breakers but if you upgrade to a slower trip (from a B to a C) it will cope with the surge then continue as normal but generators don't cope with this so well. 7.2kva sounds a bit optimistic to run a 280 amp.

I'd go with no on that. You need 8kva to run my 180 amp Kemppi mig inverter to it's maximum according to the manual. A big old transformer beast like that with all the inrush current will probably destroy a generator windings in no time.

I always thought Valentines were supposed to come from secret admirers and were for kids in their teens. Saying that, we keep a card in the sideboard drawer and take it in turns to take it out and put it on the mantelpiece. It's her turn this year.

I just answered the other thread, I was looking at something like this as a project and in case I got any bigger wood to cut and last week I found an 036 local. I had it running today just to hear it and it sounds alright. It might need clutch springs and a switch lever and it definitely needs a chain it might have another sharpen left but it's very worn.

I was looking for something like that but they don't seem to come up round here and I found a Stihl 036 which I bought and have just had it running. I think it has an 18" bar on and it needs some clutch springs and a chain and probably a new choke lever/stop switch. I need to find some wood to try it out on now.

Use some decent oil and cut it down to 40:1 Maria. It cuts the smoke down and doesn't blow oil out of the exhaust.

We're getting some snow now, not as bad as they've had it in Sheffield and on the tops though, 8" there.

I take the closing plate and top flue out and sweep the chimney with a brush and rods. If there is air flow through the chimney where will the condensation come from ? Seasoned wood should not make any more deposits than smokeless fuel and if it's burning completely will make considerably less from what I have seen coming down the chimney when I sweep it.

I'm a bit cynical like wrsni as I was a convener at the factory I worked in and management brought in some consultants to explain to us how to work smarter and safer. This was many years ago and I saw the bill. It was over £2000 a day plus expenses. We ended up doing everything exactly the same but we had to write down how we'd done it.

Was it a proper stainless coal and wood flue or just some old aluminium Copex for a gas fire ? I'm even cheaper, why do I need the flue lined when it's been in use for over 100 years with no problems. I just used a couple of lengths of solid flue to get through the closing plate and it's worked fine for the last 12 years with a 4kw Hunter stove.

How much does it cost to become a Chartered (fixed that for you ) Fellow of IOSH (the most recognised professional body) how many other bodies are there and where are they buried ?

Was it a multi purpose kit ? I got one recently which covered various carbs and you had to study the metering diaphragms very carefully to pick the right one.

I've watched a few videos and I wonder why do you cut the branches off leaving about a 4" stub then cut the stub off even though the tree is coming down and tidiness is not important. It just seems to waste time to me although there is probably a reason for it. I've noticed it in quite a few videos, everyone seems preoccupied with cutting little bits off when the whole branch is coming off anyway.

I turned the one down the garden here into a lollipop just using a step ladder and a bow saw and topped the main stem and it grew again. It had two stems twisting round each other where the main trunk bifurcated. It is a good habitat, something always nests in it.
