  1. My understanding is a that a pollard is a coppice at a height above the cattle grazing height usually 2-3m. It's to be started when the tree is around 2-3inches in diameter.
  2. Yes. Should by some unlucky circumstance it operates it'll mangle your leg if clipped high
  3. I only noticed cause it was a training point when I did my cs41 recently
  4. I liked the catching branches. Did he change top handle during the vid different coloured strops lol. Just a safety point at 2:37 and 4:09 he clips a running saw to the strop ring. Should the trigger get activated he will test the chainsaw rating of his trousers. Best case a new set of trousers worst case a lot of pain.
  5. Has anyone thought about a conveyor belt instead of a tipper? Saw one of the big aggregate lorries earlier which got me thinking....
  6. Been thinking about the ideal do everything arb truck. My current thoughts are a 10/12t lorry with a sleeper cab. A 2t hiab behind the cab, a tipping chip box on the back half of the load bed. That would leave the front half for a tracked chipper which would be taken on/off with the hiab. Also could fit on some good sized logs for milling.
  7. Look a lot of effort. I'll stick to my maul and use the £40 for pantin or something
  8. I'd would have thought in front to keep weight centred. Too much over hang and the front will get light
  9. Haha. If your sliding down a pine in your arse the wipe is the least of your worries
  10. For cleaning we have wipes I think the main ingredient is isopropyl alcohol. Hands and arms come up a treat
  11. I'm going to watch this thread as I thought about doing a stretched disco tipper. Good luck to you
  12. I'm using 11mm at the moment and it does start hurting if you climb a lot. Good for self feeding though. The other day I got a nice high anchor and used a friends hand ascender & foot loop and pantin. Can't believe how quick I got to the top
  13. I'm going to get 60m of blue tongue 11.7mm when I replace. I'll cut a few meters off for a lanyard and/or a short 2nd rope either 15meters or a 5 & 10m
  14. I'm getting the phantoms when I need a new pair
  15. Wow I can't believe where the week went. We covered Polesaw on Wednesday and MEWP on Thursday. Again another fantastic course put on by Kingswood training services. I can't wait to do some more.
  16. I'm hoping to take the caravan down. You'll see as I'll be drinking my mead from a horn.
  17. Drove past MIRA a few time seen several cars with zebra paint to camouflage the body panel shapes
  18. Spent the second half of last week doing the climbing and rigging training. Did the cs41 assessment yesterday which I passed. Brush cutter today.
  19. I went to a 6 meter lanyard to save weight. Don't be fooled into thinking the wire core stops cuts, they don't.
  20. Done some basic tree inspection today. Looked at fungi, weak unions etc. I can believe how quick beech fail, we saw a beech must be 2.5m+ diameter and looked fine apart from the fact that it had snapped around 8foot up. Looking inside there was brown and white rot but no external signs
  21. Back down at Kingswood for my advanced course. Looking forward to some rigging and MEWP training
  22. Yorkshire tea for me. I do drink at least 10 cups a day lol
  23. I need to get set up with a Rob D carving bar as I really enjoyed carving. I'll get the mushroom done for you Steve after I've done my lad an owl!!
