  1. Graham @ Loglogic, they sell the Petersons and am pretty sure he would point you in the right direction of any owners in your area. He's a top bloke. Tel:01884 839999
  2. nice to see they are taking the consultation/blue sky thinking meeting to the suppliers themselves by holding it in central London......hhhmmm let me see if I can be arsed to travel down to that....well that will be a no then.
  3. as a supplier (own use) of slabwood, of approx 20m3 pa I am kind of hoping I don't have to pay the same as the commercial pellet suppliers......... but I think I could swallow the £60.00 pa mentioned.
  4. DOLMAR 7910....can run up to 28" but runs and cuts like a stabbed rat with 20" just my impression...contact shavey on here.

  6. if you can come and collect it , I have tonnes of dry slab/rippings, based near Bungay, PM me if interested Tim
  7. -I am not saying that Plantoils product is going to cure your problem, but diluting it more and allowing more flow eases the financial pain a little rather than running it @ 20:1 mix....try 30:1, and up the flow,I have not noticed blue staining increase, but the sawdust/board face is wetter! Is the lubricant, pump fed or gravity fed, if pump fed, a cheap solution to getting the lube to other parts of the machine is the "Hozeloc" irrigation system ,it has a variety of nozzles producing differing fan jets which could be cable tied into place as a temporary measure, also inline valves to help control flow where you need it ....just a thought. Tim
  8. As I have posted in the past, I use "plantoil band saw emulsion", different blade to you Johnathon, 25* rake, 2" pitch and I raise rate of flow of waterbased lubricant ,which is sprayed onto blade and both wheels, sometimes you just have to swallow the cost of flooding blade to save on labour time of blade changes and cleaning, can you not put a bigger pitch blade on and up feed rate/ slow blade speed, to try to reduce any heat build up, just my experiences, the only timber I shy away from with resin issues would be reclaimed pitch pine, larch down this way doesn't seem to present this kind of problem. Tim
  9. or you could try this: Plantoil - Home Page, not cheap but with a 20:1 mix with water works out about £7.00+ vat for 20 litres of mixed solution, which lasts a days full milling with high flow ,cutting sycamore you would use less , and somewhat kinder to the environment than diesel if out on site, one down side is freezing of lube system unless antifreeze added in sub zero temps.
  10. Having undertaken a similar job to the one described in the original post,I am now of the same opinion as Jon,I will not touch resawing reclaimed beams, just not worth the hassle, end of....
  11. Afternoon folks, have been contacted by a prospective client who has had a walnut felled in his back garden, cannot realistically get my Autotrek anywhere near it, so was wondering if anybody local to Oulton Broad had anything as per above, pm me if interested we can discuss about it , I can send pictures of tree and video of access. Tim
  12. discolouration through oxidation of the ends will need more than a couple of inches taking off to see true colour of log, more like 8-10", given the length of time its been down, the logs will be harder on the blades too obviously, so a bit more lubrication required, but tensions should have been relieved by the length of time down....just my experiences.
  13. you don't specify which model of serra... I presume that marshall engineering are not coming up with what you are looking for? I would thoroughly recommend Edwards Precision Saw (EPS Services & Tooling - Specialists in Saw Manufacturing Servicing and Repair) , they supply 4" wide band for my autotrek mill, the dogs cahunas.....Speak to them I would think they would come up with something, swaged, stellite etc, name your tooth shape, hook, crown etc hope this helps, Tim
  14. when I am cutting H/W boards, c/w 2 SE the following recovery rates are as follows per species: Ash 75-80% Oak 60-70%, Syc 75-80% but this is cutting 1st and 2nd length timber only, beam will less, unless you cut boards on the way to arriving at your beam section, recovery might be 40% or less depending upon your choice of raw material.
  15. Try robin carter@ timber resources, based in liphook, runs an autotrek, and sells timber as well from memory.
  16. Agree with you Jon,seems cheap,just bought similar size parcel,slightly larger trees,@just under £7.00 # vat.
  17. will also stain badly with wet steel....really non starter for anything like a hard wear surface!
  18. If you don't want to hire somebody like myself with 20 years of experience of milling to come and convert your timber, why don't you hire a mill from Ben Burgess in Norwich so you can evaluate whether a small band mill is the way to go over a chainsaw powered unit
  19. Peterson mills are imported by "Loglogic", peverstone,Devon, speak to graham or Marcus.
  20. thanks for the promo Simon & John....trees maybe, onions not a hope! Hope things are good for you both, cheers, Tim
  21. I charge an hourly rate in the yard plus blades with estimate given,I did have a bit of an issue recently when resawing old timbers......having been reassured that all metal had been removed..... 44 nail remants and 1 drill bit later😓.....
  22. Having had a phone call from someone in this thread "enquiring" as to my daily rates claiming to be a prospective client,I mused about how much I charge in comparison to others, what value do you attribute to decades of experience working in this field and knowing your limitations. I then started thinking about the costs of machines and there capabilities in relation to other machines and whether that justifies any increments, because most punters,(sorry, clients) are not fully aware of the differences and just look at the bottom line, all I know is that my daily rate has risen by40% in twenty years, but replacement cost of same machine has gone up by 130%......maybe I am still not charging enough........
