  1. Steve iv had a ms390 for 9 years, and 6 months ago i bought a 461 with 18 and 25 inch bars, its like night and day difference, much better performance and much better fuel consumption too. If i could only have 1 saw it would be the 461, i compared it with a 661 in the shop but decided the 461 would be more usable.
  2. I agree completly about the stopping and steering being the problem, not the power, my 3.0 trooper has 50 more hp than my defender but isnt anywhere near as good with a big trailer. I think the 3.0 is a good engine, but im glad i didnt have 1 from new!
  3. Ha, mine was only about as thick as the bit to the right of you, about the same sort of height. I actually used it on something that needed it on sunday, felled a 30 inch diameter oak and a similar sized beech with it, great saw !
  4. My defender has a train of 7000kg, im not trying to start a landrover isuzu argument as i currently have 1 of each, (trooper, not pick up though), if i was picking which one to tow a trailer it would depend,: Up to a couple of tonne i would probably use the trooper for its greater manouvering ability and speed on the way home if you have dropped off the trailer, over a couple of tonne i would take the defender regardless of miles(and im talking hundreds) due to its greater weight, longer wheelbase and the fact you can shunt in low box without risking a blown up transmision.(plus it looks amazing with a big trailer:)) Imterestingly a local hay dealer/farmer has just traded in his d3 for a d max, which he has had chipped straight away.
  5. Surly the biggest problem with one of these d maxs is that althougth the towing capacity has gone up the gross train weight hasnt? As in if you tow 2.5 tonne you can have a tonne on the truck aswell, but if you tow 3.5, you cant, so you can only move the same weight in material as a truck with a lower capacity anyway??
  6. My trucks gear box has done about 40k and the transfer box has only done about 6. the chassis and bulkhead are solid, as far as im concerned, everything else is a service item! Its just the inconvinience of it not working thats iritating!
  7. Pete i believe monster tunning are doing something like that to their 8x8 defender as we type!
  8. I have had a td5, great engines, but i have a 200tdi and its what i want! Currently have an isuzu trooper 3.0td, aswell, which is a great engine with loads of go and plenty of speed but im not that keen on japanesse engines in land rovers. Getting back to the noise of big exhausts i was driving next to my mates 300 with the big exhaust again today, wwhat a noise:)!!
  9. Get a 461 not a 441, theres hardly any increase in weight or price.
  10. Some big oak logs i wanted full length.
  11. Yes i will definatley do that before i order, no point getting someting that wrong!
  12. While out topping a field near the barn the customer asked me if i could fell a tree in the, field, pointing at a poplar tree about 30ft tall and 2 10 inch stems. I said i could it then or it would be a couple of weeks, so she asked me to do it then.so i went down the barn, got my ppe and the only saw that was there- the 076 with a36inch bar! Took me about 10 minutes to fell, tow to the fire and sned and stack:lol:
  13. The 8 x 5 is 2700kg gw i believe, so fully loaded i guess the tipper would be lifting 2 tonne, so about what im after. I think i might order 1,as at that price i dont really have much to loose.
  14. Thanks, what capacityt is your trailer?
  15. ]Yes,i have been recomended flowfit before which led me to this:12V Single Acting Hydraulic Power Packs for Trailer Tipper Applications Are they likely to be any good though, seems a bit too cheap to me? I suppose the easiest way for me to work out the literage i need would be to use a tape measure on my old tank:lol:
  16. I need a new tipprer pump for my 127, it needs to be 12v with a single outlet/inlet fitting and be capable of tipping about 2 ton. What sort of spec should i be looking for as in litres per minute, fluid capacity and working pressure? If anyone can directly recomend a particular one that would be great. Thanks, william.
  17. What anti roll bar have you fitted? Standard or uprated?
  18. Is changing the head, turbo, manifolds and fuel pump not basicaly the same as fitting a 300tdi, in terms of performance? Im starting to go round in circles looking at stuff, basicaly i realy want to change my turbo so i can have a better laid out air and exhaust system as it really is a right mess, but i really dont want to buy the wrong turbo. And if i am going to go to a 300 tdi turbo its probably going to be cheaper and easier to buy awhole 300 engine and take what i want. I reckon my best bet is to just tweak the pump and then go to the billing show in a few weeks and price up the manifolds, there are lots of good priced new/ reconned 300 turbos around so im not too worried about that.
  19. I wont be putting a disco box in it, i had that in my td5 110 and i found it a little bit too high geared even for that, sandworks have you personally done that with a 300 tdi head etc? I wouldnt mind a 300 turbo as i could have the same 3inch performance exhaust my mate has on his 90, it sounds amazing.
  20. I will be tweaking the pump soon as pos, iam currently thinking of fitting a double cored intercooler, i dont realy fancy a full with intercooler as i have heard they can upset the radiator airflow, especially with the winch , a bar and spots, (again thinking about the train weight). I currently have a dixcovery engine, all the internals are the same but the turbo is mounted down low, i am thinking of buying a good used defender turbo and manifolds as the air in and exhaust are very consticted at the minute, as well as looking a right state, has anyonee done this? I have seen the propane kits, think quite a few people have them on road cars, there is a company called tinley tech, i think, that do it.
  21. What have other people done to get a bit more grunt out of there 200tdi defenders? I know these engines are what they are, and i am happy with it as it is, but with a 7 ton train weight a bit more wont hurt! I dont mind a bit of extra maintinence or spending strong money as long as i get something for it. Thanks, william.
  22. Has anyone got a decent new laptop for a good price recntly? You seem to be able to buy one for between 3 and 4 hundred quid theese days, but are they up to the job? Im no computer lover so dontwant anything fancy, just need it to be reliable, good for typing documents, emails, coming on here and the ability to play a cd/dvd without it sounding like its going to blow up! Oh and it would be nice if i could make it talk to my samsung phone and tablet, thanks, William.
  23. This reminds me ofbeing a kid- when iwas a baby my dad delivered wine with me in a carry cot on a purpose built shelf in the back(you probably wouldnt get away with that now), whhen i was 4 he had me carrying the single bottles!! When i was 6 i learned how to drive a digger laying pipes out in a field, when i was about 13 i had a day off school for a removal job, when i was 14 my dad picked me up from schoool and took me to a job to lay out slabs and bricks ready for laying the nextday, i was on that job every evening till about 9pm for about 6 weeks! I loved it all!
  24. I havd a 35 and a 3060, hopefully i will be driving a 3090 for a week or 2 in the summer.
