  1. I looked at getting a freelander van, but i decieded i wouldnt like no low range and i would probably have, burnt the clutch out towing trailers that were too heavy for it. I bought an isuzu trooper (157hp 3.0 deisel, 30mpg, 3.3ton towing capacity) in the end, you could get a mint one with £2500.
  2. Does anyone have a chainbrake for an 076 they would like to sell? And as this saw will only be used a handfull of times a year, should i use aspen in it? Thanks, william.
  3. My quad got nicked a few years ago, they went through 5 good quality padlocks on chains, gates and doors, if they have the gear to cut 1 they can cut 100.the most annoying thing was that it could have been on a job that night but we took the tractor instead. I like to keep my gear on the move now, sometimes on site, sometimes at home, sometimes on the trailer behind the truck etc.
  4. I have the evolution one from screwfix, the same blade cuts wood and steel, i have cut 50x50x5mm steel box with it, brilliant! Doesnt cost a fortune either.
  5. Yes that much travel would add quite a bit to the price! Not realy an option for me with a 30 kph tractor that weighs over 3 tonnes, although if the price is right...
  6. The ifor 8 by 5 is only 2.7 ton gross, but the next size up is 3.5 ton, something else to think about?
  7. Just downloaded the naac list of average charges for all sorts of contracting work, very useful, lists man, tractor and trailer at £38 per hour or tractor and operator (100-150hp) at 32 per hour. Nice to have a guide when working out prices so you know you are not selleing yourself short or pricing yourself out. Thanks Ty, i am currently changing from being a self employed sub contractor to getting more and more of my own work, so need to get this sort of thing right.
  8. I am looking to buy a new (to me!) grass cutter for behind my tractor, im looking for something 8 or 9 foot wide, mainly for cutting fields that dont realy get used for anything so can be between 6 and 24 inches long and fairly rough. What sort of mower would people recomend, topper, drum or another kind? Needs to be robust, easy to maintain and produce a decent-ish finish. Thanks, william:thumbup1:
  9. Will do, thanks, i have just found an ebay listing where they are offering a 24hp john deare and attachments for £240 a day, which is £30 an hour, seems an ok starting point, will do some more research. Thanks.
  10. Roughly What sort of money should i be chargeing to hire out myself and my 60hp 2wd tractor for the day/hourly for things like topping with 5 or 9ft toppers, rolling, 5 and 12 ft chain harrowing, 4 ton tipping trailer work and 4inch chipper chipping, oh and log spliting? Thanks, william.
  11. The problem is that it is hard to get weight over the front axle on a 110 but a 130 has a lower payload due to the increased weight. But that must be the same for all tippers avalible in different lengths, axle weight v gross weight.?
  12. How long do most people get out of t here steel toed boots? I have had 3 pairs this year and the 3rd need replacing. I used to buy dewalt and scruffs but they dont last much longer than the cheap pairs, i just get whatever looks good and cheap in the local workwear shop.
  13. Our old landlord always asked us to leave them until the start of wimbledon, they have been coming up strong for the last 20 odd years,.
  14. There is company called monster tunning who have an airbraked , 4 axle turntable trailer made as an exebition unit, they tow it with a massivley tuned 8 wheeled defender, looks amazing
  15. :thumbup1:Thanks for that, looks like im on the right lines in my planning
  16. I have been asked to quote for an area of artifical grass and i was wondering if any of you have done any and how you went about laying it, its mainly how you have secured it on the edges an along the joints, i have done some in the past and it was quite succesful but would like to hear how others do it/ have done it. Thank, william.
  17. We try and get our coffee from mcdonalds or greggs when we are traveling at work, cheaper and more reliable.
  18. I got a 3.0 isuzu trooper the a couple of weeks ago, swb comercial, will do 32-4 to the gallon ( but not with me driving!), enormous back, double back doors mean it can be loaded with a fork lift and it will tow 3.3 ton:thumbup1: And they go for buttons these days, i paid £720 for mine with just 99k on the clock, its now on 101k after just 2 weeks:ohmy:
  19. Because i can earn far more money than i could if i was employed, the same people keep re useing me so i must be doing something right, i can have time off during the week or work weekends when i want, and im building up a barn full of assets:thumbup:
  20. I have stanley tylon 8 mtrs, you can get them at about 2 for £12 on offer at screwfix alot of the time, tape measures are fairly disposable when you work outside, i n my opinion.
  21. I have been asked by a new customer to price upre pointing a patio, but they would like me to use a mix suitable for the age of the house(1500s). I have been advised that i need to use a hydraulic lime mix and have found the ratios i need online but does anyone have any advice please, is this a sensible mix etc, and has anyone done anything similar? This is a new client and an interstiing project, so i want to do my research and get it right, thanks, william.
  22. I work for myself doing landscaping, tractor work and logs, and for the first time in the 9 years i have been doing it i could work for my own customers (as in direct for the homeowner) 5 days a week:thumbup: But!! I usually spend 4 or more days a week subbing for my dad, so i need 9 day weeks at the moment:thumbup: But!!! I also do alot of site work for an engineer, installing acoustic enclousures,he could probably use me 4 days a week at the moment, so i need 13 days a week  But!!!! I need at least 1 day a week to do the maintinence on the trucks and machines and keep the log pile in good order, so i actual need 14 days a week:thumbup: 7 days aweek and im too tired to waste money on beer and kebabs!! Life is good:001_cool:
  23. Looking on line it seems like the max towing weight is 2 ton, not really enough for me, back to looking for a Trooper i think.
