  1. I have a 1000 watt 2 socket from maplins hardwired into my defender, will comfortably run a 4.5inch grinder, electric drill and a cement mixer (not at the same time). I have left it on charging drill batterys overnihht by accident without flattening the battery:thumbup1: iv had it nearly 4 years aswell so good value too.
  2. I think the world wants me to buy a digger!, id decided during the week that I was going to get 1 early next year and yesterday I was driving along and saw a farm sale, pulled in for a look and there were about 60 diggers in the auction! Then I get home and this thread had just been started:lol:
  3. That's a decent bit of discount, especially as to get 10 most of us would only need 2 chains per saw/bar:thumbup1:
  4. Definitely meant 461. Thanks for the opinions, thought that might be the answer. When I finally commit the cash I should have a good line up- a 170 for brash, 291 for smaller poles/in the logmaster, a 461 for the bigger stuff and a 390 with a moddified exhaust for making a noise with:thumbup:
  5. I need to get myself a bigger saw than my 291, im looking at the 2 above, I will be mainly running whatever I get on a 20 inch bar, with a 25inch for when its needed. It will mainly be used for ringing up hardwood truncks for logs. Will the 441 be alright on the 25inch or will it be constantly bogging down? On paper there isnt much wheight difference, but is that true in reality? The difference in price is £130, so not that bigger deal if it lasts 12 or 14 years like our 044 did! Thanks, William.
  6. at's exactly the way I plan to make 1 for my 127, im gonna make up an extra couple of attachment s as well- saw vice, plain shackle, battering ram!
  7. 750kg ifor with high mesh sides, hade it for 9 years, worth its weight in gold and a 3 axle old flatbed, 3.5ton gross, 14ft long bed very useful. Id like an ifor 3.5tonne tipper with a bed as similar in size to my land rovers as possible.
  8. You never know, with all the big country houses round my way, but iv got plenty of other work-landscaping,tractor field work, engineers mate, selling logs, all paying between 100 and 160 a day, its not like im after a full time buisness, but I like doing logs.I think I might put it on this winters adverts, nothing to loose. I reckon on being able to process £500 of logs a day, (but not everyday of the week!)so £160 gets the customer a decent pile of split logs for their money, but as is often said what things are worth and what people will pay are often very different?! Edit There were a lot of posts while I was typing, gensetsteve, thats exactly the sort of job I mean- the customer has to pay someone to deal with the timber, be it their arborist (who takes it away, then may well sell it back as logs in a years time!) Or someone like me who makes it into usable logs
  9. Yep im definitely a logger not a climber!
  10. Will, thats the idea, although Id do it for anyone who was prepared to pay. Hodge, your spot on about that, the tree I did yesterday was a perfect example of under pricing, but will be the last time!
  11. Im thinking about advertisng myself out as a man for hire for small scale firewood proseccing. Id supply myself, ms291, 044, felling axe, maul, logmaster sawhorse, felling lever and timber tongs. And a tractor and splitter if accesable/required.I already have the kit, and I would just be adding to my current adverts, so no real start up costs. So what would people think would be a good hourly/daily rate? Thanks, william.
  12. my mate works in a scrapyard, they've got a cheque cashing office on site as well, easy way to increase the company profits- buy a hundred quids worth of metal with a piece of paper covered in numbers, then buy that piece of paper back for £95, not bad business when your buying thousands of tonnes a month. they still pay cash for cars, I suppose theres no law saying you cant buy a car then 30 seconds later throw it up in the air with a grab iv been going to the same scrapyard for about 5 years and they've always asked for id, but if you didn't have any that box on your receipt would just say none given, instead of driving licence/passport.
  13. 4 to 5 hundred miles a week in my 127 200tdi, a few weeks ago I did Hertfordshire to the peak district, 20 mile bike ride, then 20 miles of greenlining, then back home in a 12 hour period no problem(about a 350 mile drive) driven it to Scotland twice, once towing a boat, good fun. earlier in the year we were working in London, about an hours drive from our meeting car park, 3 times we went in my mates e reg, standard seated 90, no problems, 1 time we went in our bosses audi a6, when we arrived in that my back, legs and shoulders ached!
  14. thanks for the comments, now in the hands of the insurance company, at least as it was unmodified and he only got it 6 months ago he should get a realistic pay out....
  15. :thumbdown:it had a clutch lock, alarm and immobilise, we think it must have been targeted as they did it so quick:thumbdown: its been shared by at least 20 people on facebook now, in the last week amongst me and 2 mates with defenders we have acquired 2 tracking devices, 2 cut off switches and a removable steering wheel!
  16. we dug out a stump about 2 foot wider than that a couple of years ago, half a day digging a 4 foot deep trench all around it with a 1.5ton mini digger half a day digging trenches underneath it then a high lift jack under a stump of a root to lift it up and break the suction of the soil and up it popped:thumbup: I then had to split it in 2 with an044 and wedges to lighten it enough for the digger to be able to lift:001_cool:
  17. a mate of mine had his td5 90 hard top stolen from outside his house in hertford last night, its an oslo blue county spec, just been waxoiled, general grabber at2s and boost alloy wheels, reg no: av 03 kyh he only got it 6 months ago after months of searching for a mint one and hes absolutely gutted: thumbdown: if anyone sees it or has any information please pm me on here, thanks, William.
  18. a mate of mine has a 2003 ramsey 8000lb hydraulic winch(no winch wire though), control block, tank and pto pump for a defender he might want to sell, any idea on what its roughly worth? its ex electric board for the first year of its life and has done no work at all for the last 8 years, it does all work though, thanks, William.
  19. I had a 306 gti for a while, one day I was going down a country lane and a muntjack stepped out in front of me, after years of driving a hilux with bullbars and various landrovers with winches my first thought was that deers had it! then I remembered I was in the car not the truck.... luckily it had good brakes.
  20. G reg127 200 tdi tipper for everything for me, done about 3800 miles in 8 weeks, 650miles in the last 6 days, just need to get it on some better quality mud tyres (BFG or cooper stt) and add a bit more power for 70mph cruising, instead of the current 65. if I could only ever have 1 vehicle it would be this one.
  21. I do about 2 or 3 days a month for a friend of mine and his boss doing generator installation and acoustic hood installation, we get brought all our meals while working, car parking, hotel rooms when required, 2 course dinner and a couple of beers if in a hotel, our boss has rebuilt an engine each for me and my mate, we can use his workshop, spare materials and tools pretty much anytime, last Christmas we all went clay pigeon shooting and we get paid a full days money if we work more than 3 hours. in return we try and work as hard as we can, and quite often do 12 or more hours a day, and will travel a round trip of 4 or 5 hours a day if required. all together a pretty good deal for both sides.
  22. Ill try and get one up this evening, im not too good at that sort of thing tho!
  23. Not quite sure where to post this but I have put my 2003 td5 110 on ebay if anyone is interested, its a blue 2003 van, with no mot and needing maybe a days work on it, im only realy selling it as I will be losing its parking space soon. The opening price is £1250, thanks William.
  24. Lindsey porter in land rover monthly did a feature on his atlas tipper with all the extras, it had ramps, mesh high side s a winch and a tarp that went over the high sides, looked really smart and I think its quite a bit cheaper than an ifor.
  25. Nene overland have started putting in the 3litre ranger wildtrak engine in defenders, wouldn't mind one of them!
