  1. Iv been doing bulk bags(builders, not cubic metre) in the back of my 110 van for the past 2 years, pulling them out the back door by hand, sometimes putting 2 in. Or I did them 2 at a time on a 3/4 ton trailer, again pulling them off by hand with no problem.
  2. Thanks, picking it all up on Friday, quite looking forward to it:thumbup1:
  3. thanks for taking the time to find them, spent quite a bit of time online/looking at magazine price guides last night, had decided to tell them that I would offer them £3500 for it but that they might well get more if they tried, got a phone call this morning saying that the local dealer offered them £2500 for the tractor and all the implements, and if I matched that I could have them!!:thumbup1:im well pleased! everything I need to start doing some field maintenance work, hopefully I can get my hands on it by the first weekend in july and I can put it on our stall at the village fete, with new adverts/leaflets etc.
  4. I felled a dead lime pollard about 15ft high by 2ft across, it was so dead it exploded when it hit the floor and we shovelled about half of it into the truck! put it on the bonfire heap which had not been lit for 2 weeks, it disappeared overnight!
  5. Ok thanks the export thing works in my favour- the harder it is to get top price the more likely I am to be able to buy it! iv been looking all over for other ones to compare it to and havnt found 1, lots of 4wds tho.
  6. Im not sure of year, it belongs to a customer who has about 20 acres of grounds and they want to outsource their field work (their current maintenance men are worth their own thread on laziness/incompetence! ) and when I looked at i t there was no number plate on it. They have asked me to get a price for the tractor, topper, harrow and roller!
  7. Maybe a bit of a long shot but Does anyone have any idea how much a massey ferguson 3090 autotronic 2wd with 3500 hours on the clock would be worth? Its fairly tidy but the doors are rusted out and the wings and cab have a few biggish rust spots. Thanks, William.
  8. Piston and cylinder changed, fired up first time, fitting a new carb to it when it arrives, cleaned about a pound of grime out the body work, well pleased:thumbup1: thanks for the advice everyone:thumbup: Next up an 088/090 project or maybe even a big husky?
  9. Spent this morning cutting splitting and stacking some great, knot free oak in the sun, now im sat watching tales from the wild wood on iplayer while replacing the engine on an 044 while it rains outside
  10. completely agree with that, logs have saved my backside many times! cut and split some whenever you can, forget about the bit of time and fuel money and then a few months later a couple of hours loading/unloading and you have a hundred quid or so, nice!
  11. On my way home tonight I bought ear defenders and headphones, if id seen this first...
  12. just taken of the muffler, the piston appears quite scored even to my non mechanical eye:thumbdown:, tomorrow i will show it to my engineer friend(got a feeling he might swear a lot when he sees it!) and compression test it. if it is a piston/compression issue prepare yourselves for many more questions im afraid! thanks again.
  13. ok, ill have a go at takeing the carb apart tomorrow night, getting a bit late now!thanks, William.
  14. iv just popped the carb off and turned the saw upside down/on its end and petrol comes out the pipe from the tank, so it should be entering the carb when its attached?
  15. just timed it, seemed to be about 10 seconds, i can get access to a comp tester, and will do that when i can. just pulled it over 20 times and its still dry, gonna check the fuel filter and lines next, thanks for the advice.
  16. indeed, so I will be following the above advice and getting the small log mill to make the most of my (currently) undersized saw:001_rolleyes:. buying either of the se mills is a bit of fun/bit of a punt, so it may well be that after a few months I decide to keep what I buy and carry on, sell it and give up milling or (and having seen all the other posts in this forum this seems the most likely!) upgrading saw and mill:thumbup1:
  17. actualy its a 127:wink: thanks, just got it back on the road after a few years, got too impatient to paint it, tipped about 40 tonnes with it in its first week back working!
  18. iv been looking at this site when I needed some advise for a couple of years, signed up a few weeks ago been on here mosts days since, great for firewood selling advice, saw advice and talking about landrover tippers!
  19. just pulled it over a few times on full choke (with fuel in the tank) and whipped the plug out and it was dry, whats the next step? thanks, William.
  20. Ive just dug my 1995 044 out the shed and am trying to get it running. I have filled it with fresh fuel and it has a spark, although I need to set the plug gap, where do I go next? I guess I need to check the fuel lines, should I do aecompression test? Thanks, William.
  21. Have done so under the name William ives/ willams world of wood. Thanks.
  22. Ok thanks, am I right in thinking that you offer a discount to people on here?
  23. Having spent half the day reading this forum I now really want a chainsaw mill! I mainly just want one but I think I could probably make some usable/salable products for my landscaping business. To start with I shall be using it with my ms390 with a 16inch bar and then I shall be using my 044 when its restored, probably running a 20 inch bar. So what do you recommend the small mill or the 24inch? I understand that you lose about 6 inches of cutting length with an alaskan? Thanks, William.
  24. Thanks, I will certainly be charging more for the bulk loads in future, I thought id post the other thread for advice before making advertising. I think I pulled in about £2000 over the last year for logs with no advertising, I think this year I shall advertise and hopefully double that, then next year look at processing equipment. I currently have access to a mf35 with a loader but that only has a single hydraulic pipe to the rear, so cant run even a simple log splitter with out modifications. I am planning on buying a slightly bigger/more modern tractor this year for paddock/fieldwork contracting so after that I will be looking into some firewood machinery. The logs always used to be a bit of fun but after last yeear I think it could really go somewhere. Its the supply of good quality timber that vital imo. Thanks, William.
