    Thanks for the replies, it sounds to me that if I come across a dirt cheap one at a farm sale it might be worth it as any digger is better than a spade but if I have to pay eBay type overinflated prices I'll be disappointed. Thanks, William.

    Yes your right but I have got a 14ft by 6 trailer and a 8by 6 tipper bed so with a big pile of ratchet straps I should be able to get the best part of a full weight load on.

    Yeah that's my thinking, I need a mini digger, but I can afford a 3pl digger. I think I will keep saving, and see what work comes up over the next few months. If a decent 3pl digger comes up at a good price I might get it as a stop gap.

    Does anyone use a 3pl mounted digger? Are they any good or are they just tan akward pain to use? What sort of weight can you lift/move with them? It would be on. A n mf3060, so not a tiny tractor, but not too big either. Thanks, William.

    How much would I be looking to pay for about 5 tonne of unprocessed hard wood delivered in Hertfordshire? Would I even be able to get that smaller amount delivered? Could I buy it and collected it myself in land rover and trailer loads of about 3 ton? What about hardwood arb waste, how much would I be looking at per ton to buy that? And if anyone is doing a job around the Hertford/ware/cheshunt area and the want a couple of tons a time taking away please PM me. Thanks, William.

    Not sure I have seen one on a tipper on here, and it's something I hAve searched for a bit(but not specifically on a tipper).i think you would have to shorthen the tipper body at the front so you could mount it on the. Actual chassis of the trailer?

    I'm 6'5 and it's fine for me unless I am wearing chainsaw boots or my big walking boots.

    If your doing it over 2 days for a bit of fun fair enough, but don't worry about doing long distances in the future, me and my mates regularly do 2,3 and 400 miles a day in a selection of tdis. Drive it at the speed yours likes and enjoy driving it.

    Speaking as someone who has taken 2 trailer tests I would say that this sort of information would be far too practical for a modern., Eco friendly driving test! This thread goes to show that I am right not trusting handbrakes, I alwAys leave vehicles in gear and chock the trailers.

    My 127 has 190 k on the clock, but I think iota only the chassis bulkhead and rear axle that are original.

    I will have to check this out. If It only covers up to 1000 then 3 of them will be fine but the stock trailer and my gd105 will need seperating out. Even if this is the case it's still good value for me.

    My tractor is £230 a year with the nfu, includes private use and contracting. The good part is that it covers all my implements and trailers, including the normal trailers, (as in ifor Williams) , would imagine it would cost quite a bit just for the theft cover on these if I had to buy them all separately.

    I am on my second pair of stihl hi flexes, I have got both pairs second hand but unused for £100 from eBay, so worth having a look on there , they are much nicer to wear than cheap ones.

    We bought a used quad late last year and while I like it a lot and it handle a 750kg trailer no problem I'm starting to think I should have got a smalll dumper as it would be more versatile- could make extended sides for logs, would tip the logs in a tighter pile, much more manoverable than a trailer, could still pull trailers, I could tee off the hydraulics for a log splitter etc, more likely to find hire work for it, easier to work on and maybe less likely to get nicked? The reason we got a quad was for clearing up a tree job over a couple of hundred yards of lawn in wet conditions, dumper tyres would be too aggressive for that job, maybe if I changed to a dumper I would need 2 sets of wheels and tyres, one MUDs and one turfs? Think there may be a quad on ar trader soon!

    I have a sealey one on my tipper, it's ideal to put bulk bags of logs on the truck. Mine doesn't have a winch but will be adding one as soon as possible as you tend to use half the lift tightening the strap you are lifting with.

    My 461 is great, was using it with the 25 inch bar buried in this solid old oak trunk this afternoon, was going to use the 076 with 36 inch bar in the picture but it was a bit blunt, 461 flew through it. The speed it went I thought it was going to be mushy rubbish wood but it was lovely stuff.

    To mount my hand crane on my tipper I cut a steel plate to fit between the inside and outside underbody rails of the body, then bolted an angle on each rail the same length as the plate, then bolted through the crane base, the body of the tipper then the steel plate. This means that when the crane bears weight it is pulling on about 18 square inches of steel, which pulls against the angles which pull against the chassis of the tipper. Seems to work and would have only taken about 2 hours if I'd had sharp drill bits!

    I would far rather work over the weekend then have a day or / off during the week when the things you actually want to do are open- bank, car parts places, clay pigeon ground. Majority of customers are happy to ring you, have you visit or work on a Sunday so why not.

    I first started felling trees with an axe when I was about 7, in the woods with my dad. He also used to take my scouts felling trees in the same woods with a couple of axes when I was about 13, he used to put the faces in with a chainsaw and we would team up to race each other to get the back cuts in. It's Been a while since I felled a tree with an axe but I snedded a few up with one last month.

    I have a receiver hitch bolted under my winch on my defender, I plan on making up a long tube that fits into this with a vice bolted on the end of it. I will probably put a couple of bends in the tube so that it sits at a nice height, not by my knees. Probably oonly any use if you have a winch though.

    Me too, that's why I have fixed my tipper and fitted a hand crane. And why if I haven't bought a 1.5 ton digger with a grab by the end of march I will have the right hump with myself.

    Led lenser h14 head torch, the best torch I have ever had, and I've had a few. Does eat batteries on highest power, but worth it.
