  1. My mate had a fourtrack for a few months, rusty, broke down, you couldn't turn the trailer to a sensible angle as it caught on the bumper and the ride was so crashing he used to say my defender felt like a Bentley in comparison!
  2. Is there anything you can't make Bob?
  3. Then, a brand new TD5 90 - the most uncomfortable vehicle In The World. Responsible for many a slipped passenger disc and hours of osteopathy for the drivers. It's all down to personal taste, but I found them unpalatable. RIP:sad: The comfort level of any car or van is surely down to individual preference and physical shape- my trooper feels very comfortable but gives me backache, my dads ranger feels like I'm sitting on the floor, in my mates jag I feel ridiculously hemmed in and in my defender I feel just right! And I have seen many hiluxs and troopers etc needing welding! It's def a sad day though.
  4. £1400 for a petrol one? I would certainly be interested in seeing one.
  5. I'm not sure the 3.0 in the rodeo is the same as the trooper(the one with the reputation)is it? For that price if you like it and it's got or can get a decent length mot I don't think you can lose really.
  6. Td5 bonnets are much flimsier, nasty tinny things in my opinion. There are not really any decent places to mount a spare wheel on a defender without a back door.
  7. That's the sort of thing, just need to find some that fit an 08 model. I only have the front windows and windscreen and short of riot grills there's not much I can do about them! I have seen them fitted about half way up the window frame which must go someway to stopping the door getting wrenched open? At last years Doe show there was a company selling them(for vans), hopefully he will be there again this year.
  8. You can get hd ones or just weld a bit of reinforcement on a normal one.
  9. This's week my 110 has had every brake line, the transfer box and wiper motor replaced, I wish I'd bought Japanese-oh no hang on my trooper looks like it has a terminal engine problem, it's not been a good week:thumbdown:
  10. My mate has the pedal lock that fixes to the floor and then folds over the pedals, very good bit of kit. If I had a big pedal lock it would have to be this one as I think the normal kind would just get on my nerves.
  11. Has anyone fitted van style deadlocks on their defender? Inset ones, not sticky out hasp and staple type things.if you have what do you think of them and where did you get them from, thanks, William.
  12. I have a screw gate on my shed keys, does this invalidate my theft insurance?
  13. And the garage have just rung to tell me every brakes pipe on the 110 needs replacing
  14. Had a mixed day of breakages on Saturday: got the new transfer box back in the Land Rover, then it split a brake pipe on the way home. Then the isuzu started running like a bag of spanners. But I did get the back of the little ifor williams repaired.the main bar underneath the floor at the back had completely sheared in half after a meer 12 years very gently use. I wish this little trailer had a mile counter and a weight counter on it!
  15. I wear my scarpa mantas for prunning all the time, rigid, grippy and comfortable, loads of ankle support so good for standing in forks or on branches all day.
  16. What are the forestry sides?
  17. I once had a blackthorn thorn poke a pin hole through the roof of my 110, you could only see it if you got in the back on a bright day and looked up!
  18. Cheers, £1500 for a recommended machine with a years warranty seems like a good idea to get a new line of work in.
  19. So in general would people recommend these grinders for occasional, sensible sized stumps?
  20. I used a hired hawk stump grinder yesterday and thought it was pretty good, it was a Honda engined manual model. What do people that have used a few different grinders think of these machines? And any idea roughly how much one would cost? Thanks.
  21. Paul Wallace, as I say I have no connection/interests in it, it's just something I saw and wondered about. Think it's been up about 3 months as I had a bit of money from the sale of my tractor when I first saw it.
  22. I made a very simple ground anchor out of two heavy pieces of flat bar with holes drilled in, laid in a v shape and joined with a shakle and secured to the ground with 2 foot long, 10mm pins driven through the holes. I have also used 5 heavy pegs, about 20m. By 2 foot, driven into the ground in a v shape with a strop wrapped around them so they all take an equal amount of strain.
  23. It's a bit out opposite Cuffley camp, just has an estate agents sign saying offers.
  24. That's the theory I read in the firewood handbook mentioned in another thread, seems to work for me and means I don't have to feel bad about not sharpening my tatty old maul.
  25. I have that one, read it 3 or 4 times, very good book.
