  1. Cheers, £1500 for a recommended machine with a years warranty seems like a good idea to get a new line of work in.
  2. So in general would people recommend these grinders for occasional, sensible sized stumps?
  3. I used a hired hawk stump grinder yesterday and thought it was pretty good, it was a Honda engined manual model. What do people that have used a few different grinders think of these machines? And any idea roughly how much one would cost? Thanks.
  4. Paul Wallace, as I say I have no connection/interests in it, it's just something I saw and wondered about. Think it's been up about 3 months as I had a bit of money from the sale of my tractor when I first saw it.
  5. I made a very simple ground anchor out of two heavy pieces of flat bar with holes drilled in, laid in a v shape and joined with a shakle and secured to the ground with 2 foot long, 10mm pins driven through the holes. I have also used 5 heavy pegs, about 20m. By 2 foot, driven into the ground in a v shape with a strop wrapped around them so they all take an equal amount of strain.
  6. It's a bit out opposite Cuffley camp, just has an estate agents sign saying offers.
  7. That's the theory I read in the firewood handbook mentioned in another thread, seems to work for me and means I don't have to feel bad about not sharpening my tatty old maul.
  8. I have that one, read it 3 or 4 times, very good book.
  9. I agree, not that I wouldn't buy a nice sharpener but I wouldn't buy one just for my splitting maul, I generally just put a bit of an edge on it with a sanding disc. But obviously you can never have too many nice tools.
  10. Not a very good picture but I Have been using the digger for so many different jobs on this sleeper wall job, digging back the bank and footings obviously but also unloading the sleepers and lowering them off the edge with the thumb and tooth, lowering the concrete into the trench with the buckey and ripping down an ivy covered tree.
  11. 1996 hilux 4x4 single cab, cost me a lot of money in repairs but was very nice to drive and quite a useful size.
  12. That's what I was thinking, and I'll be putting some marks on the portec.
  13. I have done that the last couple of years but am now finding it slightly to big for many of my newer customers.
  14. I like that picture. The other day I was towing 3.5 tonnes with my 6 speed manual 2.4 125hp mud tyred 110, down a duel carriage waythen I went on a long run in my Auto 3.0 155hp road tyred isuzu trooper. They were cruising at the same speed and doing they same rpm, but the trooper was the best part of 4 tonnes lighter!! So autos certainly have an impact! As for alternatives to a defender, I'd say used defender:lol: Or a d max, every other pick up seems over inflated and plastic to me.
  15. Thanks for all the answers, I was meaning the price for the land, all interesting to know though.
  16. morning Ian, I'd be very interested in buying some, would you be able to do 6 tonnes like last time or I could have 9 if you have it available? Thanks, William.
  17. Just out of curiosity how much is about an acre of hornbeam coppice woodland worth, in the south East? Thanks
  18. I've had one for a few years, found it in a bargain bin At b and q, it was reduced so much the log jaws cost as much as the bench! I like using it for things like mounting my chop saw on and logging up thinner branches.
  19. I once moved a full skip of hardcore like that, jacked up one end, dropped it on poles and towed it 50yards with my defender, the people who lived in the house were amazed to the point that I think I muttered something about the building of the pyramids:lol:
  20. They certainly are, drove 400miles last Friday with the heater seized on, had to have the window open all the way:lol:
  21. I thought the first couple of series of citizen Kahn were ok but the latest episode was drivel. Does anyone else watch detectorists? I really like that one.
  22. I saw these and asked the price, before He told me the bloke started laughing and said you won't want any haha
  23. My special vehicles 110 is currently on eBay if anyone wants a 3500kg hardtop. Land Rover Defender 110 Hd Van, 3500kg, No Vat, Tipper, Conversion . | eBay
  24. What he said, but get a nice top spec citation with heated seats, electric everything etc. loads of room for gear even with 4 seats, capable of decent speed and economy for their size and age. So manoverable with a trailer but I find that the trailer has to be loaded spot on because of the short wheelbase. Oh and they are very cheap.
