  1. Yeah that seems high, try to achieve a 20-22. 20 seems the best measurement from what ive heard. Mine ended up at a nats below 22 from what I remember so was happy and didn't go further. Mines still not been in anything over 12-15" wood properly as yet tho, hoping the end of this week I can get it into some decent size stuff as feeling a bit healthier.
  2. How do you get on with supply of Makita spares Rich? Never needed to get any but is supply and price ok or does it take a while and/r on the expensive side?
  3. To me its just a hobby fixing and repairing for people I know, mates of mates etc. I don't advertise or anything but its not hard to see why lawnmower/chainsaw shops get stacked out this time of year. Everyone wants it done yesterday and would imagine half these people think your going to fix it there and then whilst they wait and think theres is a priority job and will be a 5 minute fix and the shop keeps every known spare for a chainsaw on the shelf. Yet for a good 6 mths of the year they sit them on a shelf or in a shed not touching them. Proper Planning Prevents P*ss Poor Performance and all that and like you say preventive medicine seems to have gone out the window. If these people spent a few minutes cleaning a saw after using it would make a world of difference as I would think half the saws I do are just gunked up carbs.
  4. The latest, Stihl 024 wander what the problems could of been... Don't understand why people let them get this bad... State of carb Kill/earth wire..
  5. 2nd dibs on that one please lol.
  6. Oven cleaner or cillit bang after the worst has been removed :-)
  7. What do you mean by the outer casing is damaged? Pull cord is easy to replace and cost about a quid for the cord. Exhaust if you need to at worst make one or repair it?
  8. Wasn't sure because they cover a wide area and about 6 counties. Was worth a asking just in case.
  9. Ah your the opposite end of the country then, not down this neck of the woods.
  10. All I can tell you is my local dealer has them on the shelf and with 16" bar @ £218 without vat (£261 inclusive). Think I must be lucky as they always seem cheaper than most dealers tho. Whats your location?
  11. This is what you will get... It cost the original supplier 69 dollars! Hand Saw Tool (CS6500) - China Chainsaw 6500, Gas Chain Saw
  12. Agree with Spud totally. 25.1 fuel oil ratio? Stihl chain? Bet it doesn't come in a husky box with husky manual and no guarantee or even looks like the Husqvarna they've actually got in the photo.
  13. The 211 c-be has easy start (ergostart) and quick chain tensioning but I certainly wouldn't pay the extra for it. Not like a 211 is going to be hard to start and the fancy tensioner is just something else to go wrong in my eyes.
  14. If you can afford to go to the 230 its got noticeable poke. Its the same saw as the 211 but just a 4mm longer con rod that makes the world of difference. Further down the line if you want you can turn it into the 250 just by changing the piston/cylinder if you wore it out or do a piston in. I love the little 230. My saws in that range ive also got an 024/240 and a 026/260 but for some "fun" reason like to use the 230 for small stuff. Im a stihl person on the smaller saws, the reason if it needs a top end then its sensible money, do it with a husky and its cheaper to throw the saw and buy a new one... Not knocking them just the cost of spares is so much more and not so quickly obtainable.
  15. How much of an upgrade is it you want? Its only something like a 0.2hp more than a 181. If your 181 has a 14" bar? and the 211 a 16" I would think it will cut at the same speed pretty much and wouldn't put my money which would be faster. On the other hand if its a new saw just for reliability issues etc your after get the 211 for the sake of the extra £30 over a new 181.. Chances are you will sell the 181 for nearly 1/2 the price of a new 211 anyway. You can get cheaper 211's than that without a deal is it the 211 or 211c-be you after? http://www.radmoretucker.co.uk/category/Petrol_Chainsaws/?page=2
  16. Cant say ive seen them cheaper anywhere else. Just lucky its on my doorstep and least I wont have any issues with the new stihl policy. If you need anything stihl related and they wont send it give me a shout
  17. Radmore and Tucker here in Exeter.
  18. Or slug Just like piston pin or gudgeon pin or wrist pin?
  19. If you been using cooking oil it crystalizes and chokes up the pipes and pump. If all else fails stick some fuel in the oil tank and run the saw a short while (not cutting wood obviously) as ive cleared a few out that way after they've had cooking oil used in them infrequently.
  20. Got an ms210 in today - non runner. Plug has started to melt the electrode through being so lean. Compression tested at 150 tho but pulled the muffler just to have a peak and all hunky dory. Covered in sawdust (literally it was dust not chip...) so gave it a bloody good strip and clean before I done anything else and checked the obvious as I went like fuel line and impulse, inlet boot etc, set coil gap after removing the endless dust in there and gave the carb a clean. Smelt the fuel and "smelt" pretty stale so replaced it and stuck a new plug in. Stuck it back together to start the fault finding and started on the 3rd pull! Just had to just richen up the mix somewhat and seems to be fine now. If only every saw was as simple.. Bet the non running 024 that's turning up tomoz wont be so simple.. All the 024/026 range of saws I get always seem to have a soft/dissolving fuel line, split inlet boot and a mucky carb.
  21. Don't you know anyone that would be able to buy it and post it on to you? All depends how much you want to use stihl oil? I dare say its still available on ebay?
  22. Have you noticed the ink stamp (p2?) on the casing behinds the dogs? That wouldn't have been around when that saw was made? Im not convinced about saw 2 either.
  23. Doh that sucks. I was watching it and was tempted but don't know why as I don't need one lol.
  24. I would check the cylinder and try to see how it cleans up first. If you can save its always the best way to go. Aftermarket pistons if you buy the likes of meteor, episan or hyway will do a good job. Cylinder wise meteor prob make them if you have to go down that route. EDIT... doesn't appear meteor do cylinders for the above Cylinders - Meteor Piston
