My thoughts to all involved. The accident was a little while back and the coroners report brings an awful lot back to mind for those that were there. Tough stuff to get over for those present and of course the poor guys family. Very sad.

I read this site regularly, as a farmer looking for tips on which saw to buy kind of thing and also some of the safety aspects of cutting up/down trees. Two things really astonish me about you guys, the first is the apparent alarm of anybody cutting down a tree despite your job being cutting down trees and secondly your acceptance of dog shit in your working day. I don't try to understand the first and will never understand the second.

I have no idea if they or cheap or expensive compared to others (don't look cheap mind!) My point was you can get what you pay for at times. I think in an ever competitive market that all suppliers/manufacturers try to reduce costs while keeping or increasing their returns, often leading to ever falling standards. Seems to be getting more and more difficult to actually find quality products.

They are surprisingly good. Otherwise, why not just get a big flail mower on a tractor?

Your cowl suggests the rain can't get in through the top so I reckon it's condensation rather than rainwater. Mostly on rainy days will be because the chimney is being kept cool by the rain allowing more condensation to form. I am going to guess you have changed your fuel from very dry, well seasoned logs to logs that are a bit greener and have a higher moisture content. Possibly more softwood of late which would account for more tar.

I put mine outside for a minimum of 2 years before cutting it. The problem is the sap oozes from the cuts and then eventually solidifies. Then when you take the logs indoors you knock off the bits of solid sap which warms up in the house and turn back into glue. I think leylandii logs are brilliant but the sap does my head in. Two years + outside in the weather before cutting and storing cures the problem. Two years under cover doesn't cure it in my experience. Unless you are not too bothered by the sticky patches all over the place of course, some folk aren't.

It was God trying to correct your mistake of cutting conifer when it is too sappy. I think God was made aware of the follies of this practice when Mrs God gave him an almighty bollocking for ruining all the carpets in the house with sticky shite off the logs.

My experience for what it's worth. Bar and chain arrived quick and cheap. Cuts well and stays sharp longer than the Husky chain (550) Have to say I was surprised to hear criticism (and even rudeness!) because the one I have is fine and even if it wasn't I wouldn't be rude about it.

Use these buttons to customise your search and how it is displayed, then save it and also save to your bookmarks. Or just bitch about it and say you don't like it because it is different.

You can customise an activity stream of your own that will just show unread posts in the forum sections you want to follow. It's quite clever really. I have to admit I didn't like the new forum one bit to start with, to the point where I thought Ah well, won't be going back there much. Having taken a little time to figure out how to change the layout, customise a search that I want to see and saving that activity stream to my bookmarks bar I now quite like it. In fact it isn't much different to the old layout once you do that.

I bought a 550XP a little while ago, I am very pleased with it. Have a 18" and a 15" bar for it, both are OK but the 15" does most stuff.

I'd say it was glyphosate. Very often causes chlorosis like that.

Don't know what is in your pic but yes you can get purple apples. Spartan is a good example
