  1. A man-cave you say. How about one of these: Even available with different cutters. Ug!
  2. I like the Zubat if you're going to sever the wood. But for hedging, where you might want the cuts to come together neatly, the Gomtaro with its straight blade has the edge.
  3. That's quite an advert for CAT. I'd like to see the rest of that guy's CV.
  4. You got a lot of roads like that around your area. How come the logs don't fall out?
  5. I like it. Square or battered sides are nice but that makes me smile.
  6. Why do socket sets have chrome? Eventually the chrome flakes and bits ping off. Usually when working directly over-head. And talking about annoying things. It's raining and water is rapidly dropping onto a bucket outside, dronk-dronk-dronk... sounds like popping fireworks far off.
  7. If you've got the choice - knots near the base. That way you'll not be going through them during cutting. As to lighting, either poke a firefighter in near the top and light that. Or place a feather stick/birch bark/tinder on top at the candle's centre. As it catches and reduces in size but rises in heat, it'll drop down and start the burn from the bottom of the kerfs.
  8. Start by removing the spark arrester; just one screw and slide it out, (Titter ye not!)
  9. Ah, just had a look and the prices are not bad at first glance. But by the time you've added auctioneers' fee and VAT and fuel/courier, there's hardly a saving. Plus there's no warranty through the retailer. Compared the total auction+fuel/courier price to Amazon, where you would get a warranty. And guess who comes out cheaper? Unless you live round the corner from one of Pye's auction houses or are going to buy say 3-4 items, then re-sell the other ones, I don't see much point. Thanks for the link all the same.
  10. Only ever cut them with a CS. But if the cutting is done in greenwood, as the logs season the kerf opens and the candle splays ever so slightly, which in turn aids lighting. Done a few in nearly seasoned logs and not only did the cutting take longer, the candle lighting was a longer process. Depends whether you want to save yourself & the customer time. Or whether you want a uniform shaped candle.

    Holz hausen

When you stack it, only the logs on the upper 'roof' area need to have their bark facing upwards. Easy to build and steady in high winds.
  12. They also produce very little ash and if there's anything left in the morning. The remaining base can be chucked on the fire/in the stove and nothing gets wasted. Great focal point for sharing a few cans around.
  13. For bright area, have a gander at the Unilite 'Prosafe' range: http://www.uni-lite.com/ . The PS-P1 is a 3x AAA handy lightweight pocketable bright light. Has a strong strip magnet built into the clip, so the torch on a vertical surface, can be swivel through 180° and will fill a room with light. The PS-IL1 is a rechargeable, (from mains or car lighter) bright area light but has a greater light arc than the PS-P1. It has a built-in hanging hook, which doubles as an angled support, can be clipped to a belt, plus it has 3 small but strong magnets moulded into the back and will fill a small garden with light.
  14. Took car in this morning for service and outside temp. read -2°C. Must have been a bit colder last night.
  15. Oops! But at least it was funny. Plus Jon knew what I meant.
  16. Well, the fritters ate out, which suggests it's cold.
  17. Damp, slightly misty with breeze.
  18. £250 per 2x cube and £150 per 1x cube of birch. If the stove is your only or primary source of heat, then it may not be enough. But if like so many an owner, the stove is used as a supplementary heat source for a single area and or mood feature. Then it might be enough. Looking at the delivery requirements, it would be impossible to deliver to many addresses. Due to there being steep access ways, parked vehicles outside property and poorly maintained backroads.
  19. If it's just leaking from there and not migrating from somewhere else; and being that the saw is on its side and thus the quick view window is then near the top, it would appear not. Then my guess is that the saw has either sustained a considerable shock somewhere between manufacture and you/dealer and you, fracturing the tank but not been outwardly marked. Or the tank was faulty at source. But test running did not high-light such on the bench, due to the tank not being fully filled and so failure was not evident. The vid appears to show fuel making its way around the outer edge of the quick view window. And if this is indeed the case, then a small but significant failure very near this point, would not leak fuel if the saw was upright and the tank only part filled for test running. Either way, material had failed before you took/got given ownership. And thus you ought to contact the insurance co. in the first instance. Since it was they who sourced the replacement saw. Drain the tank and send it back to the dealer at their or manufacturer's expense. The saw as is is clearly unsafe to use as supplied.
  20. A vehicle that cleans itself. Mainly the inside, for the outside, there's this strange stuff called rain.
  21. If the original purchaser accepts a repair or swap, then that is the case. If you will not accept a repair or a swap and do get your money back, (cancelling the transaction). Then the new one, paid for in a separate transaction, should have its own full warranty. I reckon one day left on warranty, would be pushing the boat out. After all, a kettle is the kind of item one uses several times a day. If then you have used it for an extended period, then it most probably was fit or purpose and had merely malfunctioned. However, if the item is actually new, as described in original post, it would appear not to be fit for purpose. When you describe it as new, how new is new? New to you or bought from dealer one week ago?
  22. Get yourself a yellow and brown carpet.
  23. Nope. And I'm guessing where it's coming from, it'll not be a quick fix. Back to dealers, (unfit for purpose). Get your money back and when the new one arrives. The guarantee will commence from the newer date.

    Yule

May you all have a goodly Yule. And may 2015 bring you and yours, happiness, health & prosperity.
  25. Ah. The cleaner smell of a log cut with the help of Aspen.
