  1. Not unwrapped yet so don't know for sure. But there's bound to be books; always a plus having books. There some stuff from Rob D, (Ok. I ordered it and wrapped it but I'm not suppose to know until the paper comes off. Hope it's what I wanted. But the big one, is the extended family gathering on the 27th. Yule plus two birthdays. Folk from down south, up north, London, Wales, Ireland, etc. and all with the lions.
  2. So what you need now is this times two:
  3. There's a book on preserving dung. What does it say, "Get working freezer, plug in & switch on freezer, open freezer door when down to temperature, place dung in freezer, close freezer door"?
  4. Slight chill, few clouds & sunny.
  5. Take a relative of mine. I reckon his wife dislikes trees and he wants a quiet life. "That tree is blocking light from the pansies." So off he goes with hatchet and bowsaw. There goes the bark and appearing are several deep knicks. So when he calls a tree surgeon, (I'm not a pro tree climber). There's the guarantee, that the report won't say, "A bit off the top and it's a good un." So another recently healthy tree disappears. Over the years, ten trees in one garden have met this fate. Ranging from a sizeable oak to two mature magnolias. On another property, it's hard to know what's gone missing, as the scrub is thick & prickly.
  6. I think that's why some people have a go anyway. It's made of wood and near vertical, (sometimes). How difficult could it be to get it horizontal and miss the birdbath, pool, fence, towpath, next door's vintage Jag and the house. After all, if you can buy a chainsaw and helmet or gloves... how dangerous could it possibly be... If you've never seen the bloom when a Bessemer was blown or spark shower when a hearth was poured or felt a concussion blast or the woomp of a sizeable tree hitting the deck or finally finding the sought for brass plate, together with four others; and realising you've dug through an entire family or witnessed a landscape made of tips & heaps. Without having had the experience, how can people know what a tree or a cutter in/by/under a canopy is capable of or the stored energy in the heavily bending boughs & leaning trucks.
  7. Elephant's Ears plant, (similar to this http://progrounds.com/diy-spring-summer-bulbs/) has started to flower. Normally flowers late spring-early summer, through mid summer. And the hydrangea is still in partial bloom; even the lily's that died back weeks ago, have started rising from the soil again.
  8. Idle youths maybe. But if a gang turn up with a nicked forklift to lift it or ram the roller with something big... well. You may think to yourself, "Well that would keep me out, if I lost my keys/remote." But if you had to break-in to your own property, you'd also be wanting to cause as little damage as possible. Scum don't think that way. With them, it's not, "Oh there's a lock. Let's get the picks out." It's probably more a case of, "Hmm. We passed a large Transit/minibus/lorry on the way here. Why not nick that and do some real damage." Think of it this way. If you really wanted to get into somewhere and you weren't going to pay for the damage. What's the quickest, easiest and probably most damaging way past security?
  9. Light rain and windy.
  10. Doesn't offend mend. I hope more people see it.
  11. Ah, got yo last bit and card was rejected. Will have to try again. Or just donate and forget the raffle.

I can't comment on others and how they access Arbtalk. But via an iPod Touch, no new window pops up. I get the 'Timeline' or 'Unread' screen, (posts and or threads but not private messages). I guess it's a way of saving processing RAM on a small sized platform. Anyway, after someone has shot me again. Could we please get back to helping the OP out with their quest... ... ... sorry, I thought I heard a chamber filling.

Ok. I apologise for my actions in this case. The PMs in question are not nefarious. I only sought to inform the OP of my gathered thoughts, data & personal opinions. And that if posted openly, could serve to dilute the overall thread. As to stating that I'd sent a PM. In the past, I rarely if ever checked my mailbox. So without being told, I rarely noticed that someone was trying to contact me or had sent info my way. I'm not saying everyone is/was like me in that respect, only that there could be a possibility.
  14. Just in case you're wondering if that statement is innocent bravado. I still climb when I can but not as much as I used to. I've also done a fair bit of free climbing, no ropes, no anchors, just a pair of rock shoes and a chalk bag. Highest I've been, where if I'd fallen I'd have hit the deck before hitting the crag was 273m. Just enough time to think, "Maybe that hand-hold wasn't that secure after all..?"
  15. Neat short and a nice view over the town. Not the place you want to be saying, "Damn! We also needed the cross-head screwdriver." as I recall, there was a 'Blue Peter' episode with John Noakes helping to change a flight beacon atop a structure. Only after topping-out, did the pair of them discover they'd left the new one on the ground. So they had to do it again. Huge hand-hold and somewhere to put your feet. Providing you have a head for heights... an easy climb.

    PM sent in two parts.
  17. HH Lifa short or long sleeve. Ok, they can get a bit niffy. But they're easy to wash and take hardly any time to dry. Plus they last and last and last. Also the same sort of thing by Tresspass. Not quite so roomy or silky feeling but a 1/3 of the price, (Got a factory outlet not far away.)
  18. The 'ScanGrip light looks good. Recently used one if their 20w floods but don't see how you could easily attach to vehicle. But for those needing static lighting, maybe they'd suit. Also used on of their light pen a automotive inspection lights. All very bright, waterproof, shockproof and long battery life.
  19. Third day of all-day drizzle.
  20. Yep. Basically you're ripping the log. Near enough nipping off the tops of the fibres. And ripping with a cross-cut chain is going to be hard going on the saw. Even if the chain is sharp, you'll only ever get sawdust. For noodles as has been said, the cutters need extended contact with the fibres along their length.
  21. PM sent in two parts.
  22. I don't see why it wouldn't be good to burn. As for value, it rather depends what form it's in and how much of it you have. By the way, what sort of cedar is it?
  23. From what I've been reading; they suck the life out of the vroom.
  24. Ripping with a cross-cutting chain, is both slow going and hard going on the saw.
  25. Haven't you given a thought to just fitting a fast breeder reactor...
