  1. I recall a few years back, umm perhaps 10 we had some monster oaks drop some monster limbs due to this. was the first time I had heard of summer branch drop or what ever it is called. these where garden trees, one was far enough away from property but I think it had a kids swing attached and was perhaps 24" wide or so. the other tree shed a HUGE branch that took 3 of us a day to clear, that went through three garden fences and two sheds and that was approx. 36"!!
  2. I knew that would get a few people goin I love old trees too, would hate to have to take it down. (too much work!)
  3. Jon, as far as I am aware it is. I dated it to around 1200. will dig my book out and see if I can find it. it has a tpo, which is surprising as its in the middle of nowhere!!! was hoping it needs to be felled. then I can mill it with the 090
  4. don't have any images, but a sako .22LR, .17hmr and nice thumbhole walnut stock airarms s310 @22ftlb 8 rabbits fell victim to the .22lr last week. best shot 80yds. 80% kill rate which was good as I have not shot since last year, and I could see my target as the hay fever was less that night!
  5. for the same reason the OP stated. whenever we finish trimming we always used to stand it upright leaning against what ever, was a pig to start and smelt of fuel and the symptom the OP expressed. this normally resulted in swearing and another 10mins wasted whilst it evaporated. now we leave them flat on the ground. no issues. as for the technical reason, I have no idea
  6. Was in a customers garden today doing the hedges and wandered over to this old veteran of a tree. what are these brackets and what does it mean long term for the tree. TIA, Simon
  7. do not store upright on the engine!

  9. not sure who milled this, haven't read the entire thread, but perhaps a dust mask would of been high on the list!!! simon
  10. would agree there. the saw just pulls, not matter what you give it. if you listen carefully the saw is actually hitting the rev limiter if when in the main cut 47" in it just keeps on goin and goin rob has probably used an 880 more than me, my last big saw use was an 088 but that was a few years back, and even further back when I started my old boss had an 090 which I only used a few times so couldn't compare them directly for you. simon
  11. thanks, rob. will wait and see I suppose! Scott, thanks for watching. s
  12. that nasty heap is worth more in scrap mate. was awefull there was nail all over, never seen anything like it in 17yrs. and that's all up and down the trunk, let alone the 1/2" gauge rebar that's grown in the fork!!! on a side not rob, how do I get the video to show without a link?
  13. and some. the final slab cut in the video was a full 48" wide, cut down the grain without ripping chain, was dogged in real hard with double hand rear handle lift and it did not bog down. running a 7 pin sprocket of course. awesome old school grunt . that thing cuts like a coke dealer
  14. well at least this thread is increasing interest
  15. yeh i know, I am working on it as fast as my "broadband" will allow!!!!
  16. Strange. Will hava nother go. Other people are also reportin problems
  17. ha, just the thread that was needed I would not of wanted to of cut this with a 660, I can a sure you http://arbtalk.co.uk/forum/video-forum/59841-50-oak-vs-stihl-090-me.html#post917742
  18. Had this real nasty knuckle head of a tree to fell for a friend of mine. was riddled with wire nails, staples more wire and more nails! would of been worth more as scrap value rather than log value!. films takes a little while to load, as its 11min in total. not sure if this will link to it or be in line on here. thanks for looking at my first job with the 090 and first video too:biggrin: simon 50" Oak and Me
  19. having just bought the fast tach Spud, do you therefore use the max feature and adjust back from that, as I noted on a hedge trimmer the reading was dancing all over. getting ready to fine tune the 090 2mrw morn in the neighbour hood. you know, a 137cc wake up call of the greater stihl bird type
  20. like a little 40cc saw? how about this one
  21. The "H" screw anticlockwise
