  2. +1 grass to young will stunt it have to wait just mow the weeds to keep them down docks hate being mowed will die off if bad next year then knock them with grazon
  3. i once broke down well ran out of fuel chap came along whats up no fuel out came a can filled car up. what do i owe you nothing just do something for someone who is need of help. so if i can i help got many a moris minor going with a nail file. if i can will help pulled a few stuck in snow. and joined the 4x4 responce group in case needed was on standby for the last floods. did need help in somerset but no snorkal so not much good. should be fitted this summer.
  4. efco are italian if its anything like there chainsaws then be a good machine, have to say my sthil blower never let me down and it was abused the 3 years i had it now needs new barrel and piston as tired. if i did get a new hand held i woud try a mitox as a lot less then the others.
  5. i am lucky hedge working on had 4 skylarks and saw them which was good as hard to see. cuckoo still singing on all day yesterday and first is swallows are making a nest in wood shed fingers crossed they finish it and have young. shed now out of bounds. as for cuckoo,s live for about 4 years. acording to BTO site. not seen many swifts this year but then not in town to see if about. bird feeders is manic from daylight greater spotty nuthatch tits plus others empty feeder in a couple of days
  6. has it a common rail engine poss one of the injectors is playing up if it does then will not start as it stops fuel to all the others. my vito did this.
  7. well i have a greater spotty coming in taken suet and nuts from feeder nuthatch has come with youngsters. along with goldfinches, tits of all styles execpt long tail pied wagtail with youngsters hedgesparrow, green finch chaffinch. and first time this year nesting swallows in wood shed got a lot this year:thumbup:
  8. even in the woods nothing is safe coppicers i know take there tools home as even in woods way off track there noses can find the kit. sad state of affairs that even hand tools are not safe. karma
  9. go on uship log in put down what you want taken postcode of yours nad delivery address will get quotes back i had a load of binders and stakes to move got a quote of £35 other £200 some do it as back hauls for fuel
  10. go for a honda or a echo more power than the sthils. and better built. my echo which is a back pack has so much power tried a sthil againts it and it walked the sthil. hondas 4 stroke. so no mixing only draw back only a blower not a sucker or have a look at mitox they do a blower 2 year warrenty and cheap should last you years just for blowing grass clippings
  11. look for a mod surplus store st mary bourne hirst and sons bound to have engines which will do log splitter and will go on and on. i have a ping pong engine on my pressure washer and after reading this post i think thats what happened to mine as oil coming out of main bearing shaft
  12. well i have had a bad week got grass cutting needs doing behind by nearly a week its rained every day was dry this morning just about to go and it rained sun cam out at 3pm was so fed up went and did other jobs now to late to mow. got a day off tommorow planned ages ago so looks as if its going to be a very long day saturday
  13. depends what area you want to cut go small will take ages to cut larger areas, need bigger mower chicken and egg if they are smallish then use a self propeled walk behind and use ride on for bigger ones. mine is 42inch to edge of deck most gates are 36inch so struggle to get a small countax in. difficult when just going to have the cash flow to be able to do things, i need a bigger cut machine for some areas i cut but cut with 42inch untill i can afford to get a finishing mower on back of compact. there £1500 for a 5ft i find be good to get extra work but need the kit to do them quick to make it worthwile. not making anything if it takes 5 hours to cut a playing field. with a big machine done in a hour on to next job. for 2k you should get a decent sit on for 1k and should find a trailer second had just for 1k speak to darren at scotts see what he has in. has some good kit at good prices
  14. read a lot of posts on gear being nicked. i had a word with our local country watch team re the increase in thefts. there reply is a lot disapers never to be found but they do find a quantity of related equipment when doing a raid. but trouble they have when they put serial numbers into there database nothing comes up that its stolen so have to leave the gear with the person they raided. there advice is take pictures of all you gear with serial numbers. now thats easy just put photo on pc using software picasso or like serial number can be put onto picture with any discerning marks. if it gets stolen you can then give copy to police to put onto database. may never come back but one in a hundred may be found. i have had a hedge trimmer stolen had serial numbers as yet has not been found but at least the police have it in case it ever turns up. something needs to be done to nip this crime in bud but as yet no tracker has been made which will fit small tools. yet can chip a dog.
  15. if you want it for a ride on then find the ride on. do you need to collect if mulching is ok then will get a good toro z420 42inch cut turns on a sixpence and does a nice finish you can get a collector for them D J Scott wheely down nr warnford has second hand ones. looking at a grand if not a bit more. if it is one of these then looking at min 5ft wide i have a plant trailer and it just gets in with little to spare. looking at getting a flat bed with folding ramp not the ramps that go in underneath a pain and they can slip off if its a bit wet seen it happen. hence full ramp. you can get them with detachable sides so can use for doing green waste and leaves. so look for a decent second hand inderspension,IF brian James, trailertec there are loads made in uk and will last years. i would rather pay a bit more for a well know second-hand than gamble with a new one that never heard of
  16. well ukip did well last night but the torys and labour got seats. for what few ukip there are it will make no difference to what the EU get up to unless other party's in Europe decide to vote with them. so the mony gobbling monster will plod along taken more from the uk with little in return
  17. all the hard work that goes in to put on these show only to be ruined by the weather i trust all those who got hurt are ok including the animals. with what we have had this winter especially down west and it chucks it down again and ruins the show. whats next locusts still have a job to find anything to eat as was under water. lets hope other county shows go on ok without the weather ruining it.
  18. you could make a very good living making them. if you was to put it in a shepherds mag or a agrivulture show bet you get a no of orders for one as its easy to move unlike the old shepherds huts. be a lot of people who do shows this would be ideal for. out of interest if you did get asked to make one as a order how much aprox looking at to have one made.
  19. some of what we got may be natural. but why do we let non treated woody material be it alive or dead enter our island. we have woodlands that can supply us with all of our needs 90% of the time. we do not need imported material coming in the only reason its imported is its cheap bottom line. and joe public does not have a clue what they are buying could effect the eco system of this island. its only those who work with woody materials. will not change until one day hope not something affects us on a large scale then the draw bridge will be pulled up
  20. depends what bit mostly syndicite waters but you can get day tickets still on good beats from about £170 a day including two fish. or what looks good fun is one fly a contest on the test £270 for the day but you get to fish water you may never get near. may have a go next year as in aid of charity
  21. down to how you are casting need to get some line out when you bring your rod up to just before 1 o clock count to two then cast forward this allows the line to go back out of way and go forward in a straight line also keep your arm straight when casting do not bend your wrist. i am lucky i was taught by tony pawson world fly fishing champion. and now fishing in heven jack seymore what rod are you using what line have you got and how long is your leader they need to match to get the best results. if any one fancys a days fishing nr winchester give me a pm cracking little lake i know got some nice browns and not expencive. or if you want to can go to avintgon fishieries only a mile from home and good pub serving good food just down road like to get lines wet again:thumbup:
  22. we are so lax on bio security. yet we are a true island with the continent 20 miles away far enough to stop any airborne being transmitted. if we were to get it naturally then migrant birds would have brought it in from far flung continents have sent a letter to my mp what good it will do not much not high on there pecking order the EU is more important than looking after the uk
  23. i went to a local fencing supplier the other day and on asking if they supplied wattle hurdles yes a few. do you get them local NO we import them in from poland. why because they cost £35 each compared to a English one of£60. i know there has to be a mark up on the product and the £60 is a retail price not trade. but i then started looking at the wider picture. we have DED. now ash die back. what IF something came in to effect our hazel and or chestnut woods. if we were to loose these woods those who would be out of a job the wildlife which would be affected. the ripples would go far and wide. is it not now we should be banning all imported plant stocks and timber not treated to save what we have. we are a island and as such our bio security should be second to none do we not have the plants and timber to enable us to be able to source only from the uk and not from around the world. its not to late to stop any more nasty s hitting our island
  24. they dug out a small pond near to were i was working and that was lined with cobbles for the carts to go in to get them wet and let horses have a drink.
  25. not seen it done for a long time the out of town was filmed at houghton nr stockbridge. the firm are still there but stopped making wheels now into buildings. but as for the iron wheel thia was fused together in forge to make band as other posts the band was then made dark red hot on a open fire they then grabed the band and was fitted to wheel which was on a spindle in ground as it started to burn they knocked it on wheel untill it was on then doused it with watering cans to cool it down so shrunck on wheel. its still being done as the wheels for royal carriages still need to be kept up together along with the royal horse artillary and plenty of lesiure waggons.
