I would be wary of using copy rings if i was doing it, i would happily use a second hand top end and replace the clips and rings with new oem. If i was using a copy part i would still fit new oem rings and clips.

I would prefer to go with this one than a copy. Genuine Stihl TS410 Complete Engine Piston & Cylinder c/w Gasket & Fixing Screws | eBay

If your buying off the bay, and can wait before fixing it, every now and then genuine top end kits appear and only make the £50-£60 mark. In my opinion worth waiting for and paying the extra tenner or so.
  4. That part is the dust cover that covers the brake spring mechanism, ive seen them come loose on many of this model of saw. Normally i cut the 2 plastic pins off on the back and drill two 4.5mm holes through where you've cut the plastic pins off and use 2 stihl 4mm self tappers to hold it in place, these screw into the holes where the plastic pins did go.

  7. and the best kept secret in the lawnmower business is let out of the bag. Was shown the same years ago and the bloke said never tell another soul how to do this.
  8. You learn something new everyday, 2008 Ms240 in for a service, I thought all Ms240's had side adjusters and adjustable oil pumps. After a quick media cat check thinking that someone has put a 024 clutch side crankcase on it. It turns out they dont.
  9. Rare as hens teeth second hand, ebay.com is your best bet and get one shipped across the pond. If they do come up on ebay.uk they make around the £40 mark.
  10. clip front and back and there should be a shroud that fits over the cylinder that the cover fits onto, if my memory serves correct. Google stihl contra and then click on Images.
  11. Ok, i just wouldnt want you wasting money on parts then to find out the main gears are fubar. Two of these CON ROD DRIVE FOR BLADES ON STIHL HEDGETRIMMER FH75, HL-KM, HL75 HL75K HL90 HL45 | eBay One of these Stihl Spur Gear Fits Hl,Fh Part # 4230-640-7503 | eBay Cant find the shims or the bottom cover and gasket, but the parts above are £100, throw in the shims and the cover and a set of blades and fixings and its cheaper to get a brand new head.
  12. If you turn the drive with a flat screwdriver does the small cog rotate? can you feel any tight spots or anything? I find it odd that someone has canibalised it for parts if the main gears worked.
  13. Did you buy it as spares or repairs, engine runs but blades dont turn? If so i assume the main gears are knackered and the other bits have been taken as spares.
  14. Dolmar 112 with the fuel cap stuck fast. Big pair of mole grips and managed to unscrew it. I thought it was only Jonsereds that suffered from this problem. New one on order so hopefully it will solve it.
  15. If they find out, then you will have a problem. Saws are on their prohibited list, i used to use City Link through parcels2go but they stopped one parcel and i had a 180 mile round trip to go and collect it from the Depot. I dont know how they found out it was a saw as i always said its "parts" when booking, it wasnt leaking or smelling of petrol and the box was intact. Now use parcelforce and never had a problem.
  16. If they are anything like the Archer ones they sell i would stay well clear. You get what you pay for, cheap rubbish.

  20. As soon as it dies, pull the plug and see if you still have a spark. Could be the coil breaking down once its got warm.
  21. Youve got the rope on the wrong way round. It should come out of the handle and form a straight line down, not across like it is.

    026 melting

also, seen as you've not removed the clutch carrier, and no clutch backing washer is visible. Did the saw have a clutch on that needed the washer?

    026 melting

That saw pictured is not an 026. its the 021 023 025 ms210 ms230 ms250 type of saw.

    026 melting

I dont believe it, every saw like this ive seen is the result of being left running with the brake on. The melted part is what the saws built around, so you will need at the least, New main case, new crank seals, new clutch, new oil worm, new brake band, new drum bearing.
  25. Ray1

    026 melting

Thats not a 026, more like an 025. Its been left running on tick over with the brake on for a long while. Only way to fix it is get a new main case.
