  1. I made one once, unscrew the needle, mould some metal putty around the splines and push a flat screwdriver into the other end, once its nearly set remove the putty then leave it to set hard, shape it with emory so it fits through the carb grommet and then super glue the screwdriver into the the slot. It lasted a few years then i bought the proper tool.
  2. Bumblebee Auctions Anybody recognise anything Maidenhead area, The 201 must be traceable.
  3. Most likely a dropped valve, could have caused loads of damage or hardly any, ive seen them with bent conrods, smashed pistons at worst, at best a bent valve. Lots of people find them a pain in the arse to work on but i dont mind them.
  4. Do they do a 50mm kit? Cant say ive ever come across one.
  5. I use the grinder method, you have to be careful though as a touch too much pressure and the edge turns blue, then you have to grind this off taking more off the edge than you should. Think ive tried every method going and even some inventions Heath Robinson would be proud of but non seem to give me a perfect edge.
  6. At last, the last set of hedge cutters has left the building. Sick to death of sharpening these blades. Im thinking of investing in a USG with hedge cutter attachment, has anyone got one or used one as to how good they are?

  8. My educated guess is that the piston has been fitted wrong way round and its got a piece of ring embedded in the top of the cylinder.

2nd hand? I come across many saws, strimmers and hedgecutters that look brand new and are a few years old, This is because no one reads the manual when they buy these saws from the likes of B&Q and Homebase and just put the petrol that they use for the lawnmower in them. Seized in a matter of seconds and put back in the shed and forgotten about until they are having a clearout. Remove the exhaust and check the piston for scoring.
  10. spray wd40 or similar down the side of the black rubber.
  11. I remove the sleeve and rubber as its the only way to give you room to get at the small cir clip. I use a press, sit the plastic shroud on 2 pieces of wood so its flat and press the bearing out using a long socket.

  13. Pressing it out is the only way ive ever done it and never damaged the plastic shroud, there is a cir clip holding the drum in place if you look down where the shaft goes, this needs to come out and can be a fiddle. Ive never done one where the drum comes out first then have to press the bearing out second, always come out together. If yours happens to do the same there may be a big flat headed screw holding the bearing in place (cant remember if there is one on the 100 some use a big cir clip which is easier) this needs to be undone as you press the assembly out.

Scoring, Vertical lines on the piston. The piston should look smooth with no ridges or grooves.
  15. Sound advice, you will only do it once with the plug over the hole. Then when your eyebrows have grown back you take greater care.
  16. Usually the bottom end bearing fails on these, sounds to me like its on its way out.
  17. Read this thread, its been discussed many times. http://arbtalk.co.uk/forum/chainsaws/47724-what-compression-tester.html
  18. As i dont sell mowers i never suggested it, to be honest, given the size of his garden and his age he would be financially better off paying the local gardener every time it needed cutting rather than investing in an electric start mower. If you get my meaning.
  19. Dropped a Izy off yesterday and started it in front of customer all was well and i left. A couple of hours later i get a call saying it wont start, so i've just been this morning and i started it first pull. I asked the owner to start it and he couldn't and at 88 years of age i would be surprised if he could. The problem is that he still thinks its a problem with the mower even though i can start it first pull everytime.
  20. most likely dirt keeping the needle valve open.
  21. Siezed means one thing to some and something else to others. To me its either locked up solid or lean seized. To others its just locked up solid. Ive bought many saws that are "not seized" then on inspection they are lean seized.
  22. Look on youtube, there are videos of how to service stihl carburettors or try this link to many manuals. http://www.4shared.com/dir/RUmuiVZW/Stihl_Repair_#dir=RUmuiVZW
  23. As spud says oil and aluminium powder, if you rub it between your fingers it will feel grainy.
  24. I would put this one in. Piston Kit fit STIHL 046, MS460 - MS 460, Magnum (52mm) | eBay
  25. If you want your non starting B&Q Mountfield repairing so you can cut your grass on Saturday afternoon dont drop it off at half two on Friday and demand you will collect it lunch time Saturday. This mower was supposed to be here Monday, he was bringing it himself but his car wouldnt start, its been in the garage for four days being repaired. When i said that its taken 4 days to repair your car, his reply was "yeah but this is only a lawnmower". It most likely only needs a service and fresh fuel. Im going to store his number in the phones and if he ever rings again im not going to answer. Tosser!!!
