  1. Have an 017 . Drained oil, flushed with petrol. Running with clutch cover off gentle dribble from the hole into the slit with some bubblling. Filled with stihl semi synthetic chain oil (a first time luxury) and running with new bar ( a budget jakmax job even though i ordered a budget archer from MS). Little or no line spray if i hold the saw tip close to a white door and rev. Is this normal. Is this oil just invisible? How do you gauge what's enough oil getting to the chain with any saw? Never used such a lightweight seeming oil before - thought it would be falling out? Is there a simple fix for this saw to increase the flow? Was thinking of changing the oil filter but hose won't come out of tank so would have to do surgery inside the tank with long noses. cheers
  2. I run one of these for heavy bracken - heavy machine but plenty of oomph. Made my own filter cover from a piece of red lawnmower engine shroud cover cosmetic plastic - cut to fit in the recess and drilled out 20 odd holes for air. 2 Bolts all the way through front to back - diagonal corners. Some cooker hood filter material behind for filter. Works perfectly for me. If it has the walbro fuel filter with the long felt tails and its been sat around it will struggle for fuel so change the fuel filter.

  6. 039 – loose spark plug wire – crimped and sorted Mountfield M4 – carb clean and service – probably my fave mower ever Hayterette bringing back from the dead – including fitting new blade – what a performance getting the old blade adaptor off – heat, chemicals, angle grinder to finish And this little labour of love – a skip find And worst for last – and thanks to billsmowers over the weekend for a bit of useful advice – a Chinese Honda knock off engine over revving – governor arm was slipping – what absolute cr**p construction – the whole assembly seemed to be made out of biscuit tins The Chonda

  9. the question is what do we mean by the 'oil' here. Anyway I think an Englishmans coffee table is his castle - respecting the chainsaws and tissues combo is what makes us great. (I reckon you'd definitely need more than 2 strokes with that chainsaw though)
  10. I would say thankfully not - my experience is that they are the exception rather than the rule. How the 1 screw works I have no idea other than that tuning is not tuning but finding the lowest common denominator to make the thing run. I've worked on a lot of Flymo maxi trims with them - and always swapped them for a H/L carb if I've got one knocking about.
  11. Danarm 55 - mine is badged Frontier 55r - masses of compression and serious racket - close to a motor bike sorting the carb out a while back
  12. Ancient Hayterette Non- chainsaw alert!! Blade carrying disc is broken - probably got a bent crankshaft too - haven't fired it yet. Am wondering if there's any good reason i cant just swap the engine completely for i.e a Briggs Classic or Tecumseh which I have a few spares of and substitute the disc for a conventional rotary blade? I love the robustness of these mowers.
  13. tried the next hole up but throttle wire was catching the body of the carb - back to original position and decided to bend the wire with pliers to re-introduce a bit of lost tension probably lost over 20 years of use and carb throttle is now balanced right for starting using the throttle lock. great to share a problem, amazing how when you've hit the send button on here it gets the mental faculties in overdrive - cheers eddy
  14. Cheers Spud and Barrie - much appreciated again - have given it back and told him to track the mounts down if he wants to repair it -. Could see half a day dissappearing chasing these bits - brings up the whole uneconomical to repair issue - pity because it was a lovely strimmer. I will pass on the superglue message too. cheers both Just checked that part number Mike, sadly it is listed as 'obsolete'
  15. echo strimmer parts - helpanti vibe mounts all broke when machine dropped - rubber separated from metal - anybody ever stuck rubber to metal like that (jb weld??) on av mounts - they also hold the shaft and clutch to the body of the strimmer. the part number on echo SRM-302BDX is Echo 61090504930 as far as i can see. any body recommend an echo dealer / parts store? thanks folks

  17. Stihl 009 that I thought I'd finished with. Was starting and running great. Wouldn't start tonight after being systematic about it finally got to the trigger and the starting throttle lock mechanism. Even though it sounds like it is doing something when i go through the process of engaging it its not. when I have the air filter off and can see into the carb it's clearly not opening the throttle butterfly at all. Am wondering has the wire (throttle rod)from trigger to carb stretched - is this common - i'm sure i put it baclk on the right hole - although there are lots on the carb? So will only start if I hod trigger open with one hand and pull with the other - not so keen on this. Any ideas? Common problem? Cheers folks
  18. Interesting - didn't realise they even had one! Presuming it's that black clip type thing? How does it work/move? Does it lift the exhaust valve? Cheers
