  1. Stihl 011 - with a hole for Eddys flywheel and a non oiling oil pump overhaul - stuck plunger, split gasket and a diaphragm compression spring which bounced across the workshop floor (to join the carb springs, filters and other numerous vital micro components) never to be seen again. ps anybody tell me what that lump is screwed on to the leg of the coil? This is an AVE.

  5. that looks promising eddy - is it from an 011ave - cant make out the numbers from your pic?
  6. HELP - 011 on my bench - been slightly shafted on an ebay deal and opened saw up to find Phelon 10988-01 flywheel missing several fins. Ran it but vibrates like hell and engine overheats after a minute so needs to be changed. Details in pic - any leads of where to get one would be appreciated - very happy to pay if someones got one in the corner. Is Phelon still going? cheers.

  8. Cheers Spud that's a lot to think about - really appreciated - Question if you only did the exhaust and not the inlet will there be any gain at all? is it 50:50 in terms of gains - exhaust / inlet? i'll bear this in mind - (was possibly gonna go down the dremel and a bag of hope route): "don't think it is easy, don't just attack the ports with nothing but hope, look at how wide your piston skirt is, look at where the rings end on the piston and personally would start by widening the exhaust and inlet followed by a muffler mod and then tune the carb based on what the engine is now doing"
  9. I think grease will create a different set of problems - i wouldn't personally. You sure you haven't mixed the H and L screws up - different thread sizes? - sorry not even sure what you're talking about but I'd steer clear of grease - i use a bit of wd40 after cleaning.
  10. Looks impressive even though I'm not quite sure what I'm looking at. Was thinking of having a go on a spare knackd cylinder from a strimmer - just to get a feel for trying some tools and how the metal reacts. With this cylinder the bottom of the exhaust port is a good 3cm up the pot. Is that too far in to work on? Was also wondering if you'd work from the outside for the widening and then only have the chamfering left to do from the inside?
  11. cheers ray - hadn't spotted that - nice one
  12. [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VNq07CcWPjs]Chainsaw Seal Replacment & Vacuum Testing - YouTube[/ame] Invested in one of these - a 5910890 4400 Stihl pulling device for crankseals. Plenty of vids showing the final stage of screwing in to pull out. Question - what's the proper technique for getting the jaws into the seal in the first place? Push down on the rubber part? Break through into the metal part? Is there a Stihl table that says you use these particular set of jaws on this saw as it comes with 5 sets of jaws? Is there an instruction booklet for the tool? Thanks a lot.
  13. this flywheel was encased in what seemed like road tar - never seen such a filthy saw - surprised the coil didn't fry thats 2 of these vintage saws I have now - a danarm 55 and a frontier 5r - seem to be exactly the same saw - neither one though has a suitable bar - waiting to hear back from guy on ebay flogging new echo bars with chain - modified to fit the oiler hole on these saws.
  14. Working my way through the 020AVP Super. Pressure and vac test fine after US cleaning carb. I think fuel delivery - leaning and dying was down to the carb fuel filter gauze - varnished over. Cleaned in carb cleaner and replaced - not back together yet so can't tell if that's fixed it. Am wondering - anybody know where you can buy just those little gauze filters?

  17. Glad you reminded me of that. I understand a forum to be a place for open discussion or voicing of ideas. I also believe that where everybody thinks alike, nobody thinks very much. I appreciate the diverse opinions I find on arbtalk - if i want consistency I look at adverts and i have a mate who not long back cut half his foot off so I'm tuned in to that millisecond we are away from serious trouble all the best Peter - nothing personal end of my contribution to this thread
  18. I'm surprised that guys still got both legs - seriously unimpressed

The German engineers definitely didn't want this opened on a whim - yep both right spud and owen, thank you - the sneaky ambush bolt under the cylinder tied up the troops for most of the afternoon. Thanks again.
