  1. We will clearly never see this the same Andy but what are the 'lies' as you see it? Did we not have excess deaths in early 2020? Were the ambulances running around empty? Are all the doctors and nurses in on the lie (my wife was one of them) dealing with covid patients turning blue)? Can multiple governments who in normal times are incapable of organising a piss up in brewery somehow organise a massive multi county conspiracy to cripple their economies? As for Sunak's comments both him and Truss will clearly say anything they think might sway the Conservative members. Truth and facts have little to do with what comes out of their mouths. Agreed other countries have managed this much better. Some through luck of geography (most less densely populated nations), some through good communication of the facts (Sweden according to a friend out there). some through early actions ie lockdowns and other mitigations.
  2. I am bewildered by this extreme narrative that tries to make out covid was not a serious threat to public health and that restrictions were not needed especially at the beginning pre vaccines. Regardless of the knock on affects covid was killing around 1% of those infected and if left unchecked it would and nearly did overwhelmed our NHS. If the NHS was overwhelmed that percentage death rate would have been vastly higher as far more than 1% of us needed needed oxygen. We couldn't leave it to run unless we wanted a massacre of our elderly and vulnerable but not elusively this group. In the first lockdown I remember going for what was nearly a peaceful walk as there was so little motor activity but with an almost permeant sound of distant ambulance sirens! It was horrible and pretending it didn't happen is absurd. I saw some nonsense headline the other day trying to make out our current high death rate is due to covid restriction from what now would be 18 months ago. For a grown up look into the actual causes of our current high death rates see here you can read it in the FT but behind paywall but the author shared it.
  3. Some serious truth in that. Happily use a grinder or file just depends on if the chain is on or off the saw. Also like the grinder for evening up cutter lengths. Never overheated a chain with a grinder but dont try to be greedy with it and use several light touches instead of plowing in
  4. I dont know about others but there seems to be masses of time eaten by the periphery work. Sure 2 cube an hour on the processor is fine but you have to load the log deck, move and stack the crates, cover the logs, clear the wast, maintain the processor, organise deliveries or in your case collection etc etc. Rarely seem to find time to actually run our processor 😂
  5. Looking at the scale I guess thats a hobby log seller. I guess with so much wood in the county there might be enough of hobbyists to satisfy demand?
  6. Well sales are nuts but how much should we be putting up prices? We raised our prices by 10% in the April but with inflation expected to hit nearly 20% by January wondering about adding another 10%. And that's just to keep pace with inflation so basically standing still Subscribe to read | Financial Times WWW.FT.COM News, analysis and comment from the Financial Times, the worldʼs leading global business publication
  7. That looks a class job Josh. Thanks all for replies even though I dont like what I am hearing. Think I am going to keep it simple and allow for repair work later. Hoping creosoted douglas fir will hold up OK and I will keep on top of treating them at ground level each year.
  8. Needing to make up a small pole barn to cover our mill. Made up some DF 6'x6" which have been left to dry and then soaked in creosote for a week. I am undecided on how best to fix them into the ground. Last barn I did we concreted to 6" above ground level but still get signs of rot where the concrete ends (not creo treated) Some options here but maybe there are other ways? It will be liable to heavy wind loads that will try to lift it
  9. Agreed we need a base load but no need when it's windy, no need when it's sunny not when there is excess in countries we have interconnects with. Keep our nukes going as they are brilliant for base load, Short term store natural gas for domestic heating but dont be burning it to make electric when we really dont need to be. This looks like a good explanation of the whole mess and its not the costs to generate or subsidise renewables thats the problem. Opinion: Renewables are cheaper than ever – so why are household WWW.UCL.AC.UK Renewables and nuclear make up half of UK power but a new market that cuts energy bills at the same time as decarbonising the system is needed, says Professor Michael Grubb (UCL...
  10. So let me get this right. To alleviate the massive price rises we are experiencing you want to slow the switch to renewables when this whole crisis is being caused by our dependance on fossil fuel? Less than 8% of our current bills are green costs anyway According to the regulator Ofgem, an average direct debit energy customer under the default price cap announced on 1 April would pay £1,971 per year, of which £153 would be environmental and social obligation costs.
  11. Looking to in due course. We are on the grid but planning to add a pile more PV to our current 3.8kWh system plus a battery storage. Would love an EV that could could be the home battery storage ie 2 way charging. Sadly almost none at the affordable end of the market yet but some are in the pipeline like this which also adds a few solar panels
  12. I have tried lots of types of gloves over the years. Anything that is comfortable to wear wears out! Currently use the cut proof ones from the likes of Scewfix and Toolstation. Pretty hardwearing but I do get through a fair few pairs a year.
  13. I use quite a bit of fuel and just fill 20 litre cans with petrol and mix in a 5 litre jug. Then add to mixed fuel to the can. Never checked if the jugs scale is right
  14. 12 years and I bet the chestnut is still not quite dry 😂
  15. Can bond the ply to some PU insulation like SIPS panels are made?
  16. We have a spring supply with a tank in what sounds like a similar condition. Will be interested in what you find out as we are still making do with patching it periodically My only plan was to cast a new one in situ but its a fair undertaking
  17. A naan bed and two pilau cases
  18. Get yourself one of these and you wont need to worry about running the battery down in the truck when charging. Comes with plug in points haha. Small generator would probably be easier though https://www.ford.com/trucks/f150/f150-lightning/
  19. Been using a pallet rotator with IBCs for a few years. Most of them handle it fine just make sure the wooden pallet based ones are in good condition and have slats on the bottom going both ways! Not mine but you can see one in use here. Ours doesn't have an arm over the top like this and just has a side arm but works fine
  20. Riots in the street I would imagine. Many will literally not be able to afford heating and electric. Seems almost unimaginable in one of the richest countries in the world but as the article Stere shared points out the wealth in western counties is incredibly unevenly distributed.
  21. In the workshop and at the processor I have until recently only used Mouldex FFP2s. Good fit (for me) and the downward firing vent avoids misted up safety specs. During Covid I did get some AURA FFP3s which I still use for bagging charcoal and are better at filtration but no use with glasses. Bottom line is the fit is crucial as you can have the best filtration but if air leaks in around the edge it's near useless. 3M Aura Respirator Mask FFP3 without Valve, Type IIR, 1863+ | Four Square Healthcare WWW.FOURSQUARE-HEALTHCARE.CO.UK Foursquare Healthcare are a trusted supplier of medical supplies and surgical equipment for healthcare professionals, home and business use. 22. Found a picture but cant find the thread
  23. £240 for 2 and not doing 1 cube loads any more Looking here 1 cube in 2021 should have gone up to £106 Inflation calculator WWW.BANKOFENGLAND.CO.UK Use our inflation calculator to check how prices in the UK have changed over time, from 1209 to 2021
  24. This was for dry logs. Wet logs plus the crate will be up to 500kg
  25. Is it worth the hassle? I am sure you could sell you existing one for good money and just buy a WP36 with the engine already installed. Saw one for sale just yesterday
