  1. Yep I know it's not the most profitable way to get hold of wood but struggling to buy any in at the moment and at least it would be nice local timber not hauled in from who knows were. If I could get some handle on how much timber is there I can work out what I could could offer or not as the case maybe.
  2. A neighbour has had a couple of lovely oaks felled and wants to know how much I would pay for them but I am not sure how to go about estimating the volume of the wood in each tree. Approximate sizes are as follows 1. 85cm diameter at the base 18m high 15m spread 2. 80cm diameter at the base 14m high 14 spread I am hoping there is some formula for estimating the volume of wood. A couple of pictures. Frankly I think it's a dam shame they were felled but too late now
  3. So private boat owners now pay duty? Good thing too IMO. Few years back we were waiting to fill up dads boat (25 litres) There was one of these Home - Princess Motor Yacht Sales filling up. The pump read 9000 litres! Think that was all duty free cherry.
  4. A few wintery showers with a dusting of snow on the tops from time to time but the long term forecast is dry for a week
  5. Was that necessary Someone posts pictures of some beautifully crafted bowls and the first thing you come out with is negative. Beauty may be in the eye of the beholder but manners are the preserve of everyone. Great work Mr TWig
  6. I use the Palm gloves for when it's not too cold and Thermogrip for when it is. Gloves | Toolstation
  7. There are replacement cutters on Alibaba for way less than that. Tried posting a link but it wont work.
  8. Machine is spec'd for 36cm but it does need to be gun barrel straight for that. The splitter can take larger diameter and can be used while standing by it. The splitter alone is very productive. [ame] [/ame] [ame] [/ame]
  9. Yep Give me a call 01822 852933 Beau
  10. Thanks all Chains orderd
  11. Pretty sure I have a Stihl chain on ATM. It's a 346XP with a Sugi bar. I Know what I want I just can't get the blasted online thingy to display it. To make it worse I did a google search on that sized chain and the same shop pops up showing that width chain but won't let me select a length.
  12. Trying to order some Sthil chain for my 346 but the shops online guide only shows me Oregon chain for the husky. My saw has a 15" bar with a 0.325 x 0.58 chain so what Stihl would use that chain? I tried a load of different models but most used the next width up.
  13. That WAS a full chisel Nick. Had a go at sorting it this morning but don't think it will ever be the same again. Welcome to Arbtalk mate
  14. You're probably right. Just hoping I might get away with one.
  15. Needing some new chains for the 25" 460 and deliberating which chains to get. Run full chisel almost all the time but got a load of largish beeches to get down on the hedge and need to cut the stumps low. Often have dirt in these stumps but realise the full chisel will be quicker for ringing up. No problems sharpening either type.
  16. What are the pros and cons of the above chain types? Thanks

Single skinned leftovers. One bits enameled and another is SS. Don't think HETAS would be very impressed I'm looking at one of these for my next workshop stove as they are made of 3mm plate. Don't know how well they work though 12 Kilowatt wood burning workshops stove

Thinks it's just because being top loading and round they don't sit well in them. My work better in the larger models.

Have the R2 or R3 version in my workshop. Its great with sawdust, chips and small offcuts but less so with logs. On my second as they do rust out around the flue connection. When my current one dies I will be looking for alternatives with thicker steel.
  20. That's what I hoped
  21. Spent some time recently laying a Devon bank which has a lot of Elm on it. It lays better than any wood I have had the pleasure of hedging with but how does it usually respond with it's subsequent growth after laying?
  22. Birch?
  23. Use the hook for just dragging and tongs for when an end needs lifting. More bending required using tongs. I didn't know I needed them until I had them
  24. Yep got the middle sized one and it's brilliant. It's used all the time when processing roundwood.
  25. For tipping you could try this Ben http://arbtalk.co.uk/forum/firewood-forum/64594-low-tech-ibc-tipper.html Can't say it's fast but it does work.
