  1. Does using a tyre really practically save time or is it a little gimmicky? Maybe I should give it a go to find out.
  2. Crew cab?? My brother drives an Iveco similar set up to that but smaller. The lift is located in the same place but folds up side ways if you know what I mean. I think it reaches approx. 45'. Then there is a chip box on the back, a very nice bit of kit. His boss has three of them used for line clearance.
  3. I've had several mewps for lv cutting and they were great for when I had hedge cutting jobs. Especially those high hedges, you can do such a tidy job.
  4. Sounds like you have it pretty sussed for your needs. That is a very nice tractor, unfortunately I do not have that much money to spend as it is going to be more of a luxury item if you like, rather than something that I need.
  5. Looks like a nice splitter, can you lower the table to ground level so you can just roll really large rings to it? Unfortunately can't see tractor that well.
  6. I am thinking and have been for some time of purchasing a second hand compact tractor that I can use to move lumps of wood around and run a log splitter off. Anybody know any good dealers or web sites? The tractor will need to have a loader or I will need to get one separately.
  7. I have a Schliesing mx220 which suits my needs very much at the moment. If I needed to replace it I would get one of those 12" machines tomorrow. I really do think that they are good value. What do they weigh?
  8. Wolfie, when you say you have done work for the brother of Vicki Butler-Henderson, is that Sean? He used to be a very good friend of my old mans.
  9. If a lot of your work is on price, I would get a decent 6" twin roller fed like the new Forst machines. You will save so much time/money.
  10. If your after a big chipper, there are some reconditioned Bandit's on Arbtrader which to me look very good value.
  11. What sort of work do you do Marc, commercial/domestic? What size arisings are you having to deal with? You want to get a chipper to suit your needs. If you are topping loads of thorn hedge or carrying out big dismantles etc, then you want a good size chipper. If a lot of your work is little jobs in Mrs Jones back garden with the odd big job, then a 6" chipper is going to be more than adequate.
  12. Hi Jon, the 560 is an animal. I bought a 550 a year or 2 ago and at the time wanted the 560 but they had none in stock so got the 550. Unfortunately the barrel has got scored somehow and needs repairing. The 560 is brilliant for logs, it absolutely flies through. We are going to be working your way for a few months I would have thought. Glad to hear self employment is going well for you Alex.
  13. Nice to see you using a decent chipper Alex:thumbup1:
  14. Get those spark arrestors back on now!! haha good story Thanks all
  15. 4 mins seems an awful long time, be quite nervy but if that's what it says.... Thanks all. Whats the spark arrestor? Hows your new job going Alex?
  16. Hi all, I received delivery of a new 560xp today and want to run it in correctly. In the past I have always just cracked on and used them as normal. I believe the modern way of running them in is to use them hard rather than let them tick over and take it easy on them. I have also heard of ways to set the auto tune, along the lines of, 'full revs into a large log for 4 minutes non stop', can anybody confirm this please? Thanks in advance, marc.
  17. I sell a load (1 m3) for £65, the wood costs me £5.
  18. I think if you tried hard, that you could find offence at most ads be it for whatever reason.
  19. Gorcombe outdoor pursuits at Thornicombe, Blandford, DT11 9AG. They will take woodchip for you.
  20. Use a ladder to get you up the first 20' of a tree.
  21. Its sort of each to their own imo and find one that is comfortable and easy for you to use. There are some very very good practices out there and ones that have been mentioned. Personally unless I am really high, I just use my normal lanyard and do not cut through it!
  22. I saw pussy willow in bud last week.
