  1. It's not so much the boundary of the garden that matters, as the boundary of the TPO. Half the garden boundaries in the country are in the wrong place for one reason or another, and it seems unlikely you would get any grief from the woodland owner if you cut down their tree having been told that it belonged to the garden. (1) They presumably haven'y complained about the fence and (2) How would they know? However...as others have said, it might be one worth turning your back on. At the very least I'd want something from the Council stating that the TPO didn't apply to the tree in question (not just a 'here's a copy of the order, make your own mind up'). Don't rely too heavily on the Land Registry - is the house registered? Is the wood registered? There could well be unresolved issues of adverse posession, which of course wouldn't show up on a cadastre anyway.
  2. Poor guy. There's at least one good lesson in there as well, if not two.
  3. Which Council? I used to be based round Preston/Garstang/Longridge so if it's local to Myerscough I might even know the tree officer. There's every chance that the work was done by a contractor rather than council staff, so by highlighting the problem you could well be doing them a favour.
  4. In my day people came issued as standard with an immune system Luckily it sounds like it's on a par with the risk of catching AIDS from a loo seat.
  5. Poor bugger. The wife and I are both bikers, very aware of the highs and lows it brings. RIP.
  6. I'm looking forward to seeing the results of the research. I have to say that I don't believe for one minute that buzzards are connected to the lapwing decline, but I'll read what they conclude. Rolling fields in May and overstocking might be more significant factors...
  7. Coconuts. Oops, I seem to have gone dyslexic.
  8. I think I've 'liked' everything so far, and thank you to everyone who has returned the favour. Room for some more though!
  9. I had a bad encounter with hogweed when I was about 10 years old and ended up with blisters on my arms and legs - and scars which lasted for several years. Yes, I'm ginger*, but I'm not fair skinned. *or at least I was until nature took over.
  10. I don't see why not - a two drum rotary would be ideal behind that and is pretty much the set up I used not so long ago. A two spindle hay-bob wouldn't trouble it either.
  11. Labour of love? Logic need not apply...

    Chickens?

Used to - miniatures rather than standard. Old English Game mainly, but several other breeds over the years. I had a peacock for a while, which I picked up in Hereford and drove it home in an MG convertible! The poor bugger died of liver and kidney failure at a young age, just after a random pea-hen turned up out of the blue to be his play mate.
  13. Maybe throw in some barberry, as long as you're not next to wheat fields. In terms of timing - bare-root needs to be done outside the growing season (November-April ish), container-grown pretty much all year round, but avoiding the driest spells and being prepared to water a lot if required.
  14. I use this one - Survival Aids - PRO-FORCE SL HYDRATION SYSTEM, 3 LITRES A heck of a lot cheaper than a Camelback, but you don't get a carrier. Also, due to the way the whole top opens up it's a lot easier to clean than Camelbacks etc with the round opening. I stick a hydration tablet in mine as neat water often goes straight through me.
  15. Joined in 1989, did 5 years, left for a while and now in the TA. Just got back from a 2 week exercise in Sennybridge on Tuesday night and very much in the recovery phase! Very much a forces family: Father - Lieutenant RA 1960s Grandfather - S/Sgt RA 1924-1946 Great grandfather - Staff Sergeant Major RASC 1890s-1920s/30s Great great grandfather - Troop Sergeant Major 11 Hussars 1867-1895ish Don't know beyond that!
  16. Done, please reciprocate
  17. Or Salix fragilis...
  18. I am, I've just been away for a couple of weeks. I've struggled to get time/the right channel to watch it for the last couple of years, but love the action. Went to BSB at Brands last month.
  19. Who led the Pedants' Revolt? Which Tyler.... Nice websites by the way, and I'll post a link to mine as soon as it's finished!
  20. Donate them to local schools? Not sure how practical that would be though. Agree about being wary of planting turkey oaks...they can out-compete native oaks physically and genetically.
  21. I was involved in this - "in 2000, a Guinness World Record was set for tree planting by hand – 107,781 over a 3-day period". I organised the replanting of a clear-fell site (the record was set over multiple sites) and got through about 3,200 trees if my memory serves me well. Members of the public were invited to take part, but the weather was bloomin awful and I did most of them myself!
  22. Norlog Home Page log cabins uk I've used them twice - lovely buildings and minimum fuss on site.
