  1. Here's something I can't work out from the original post / pics - Who is asking the question and why? (I know it's Tree79, and in a later post it says "the LA I work for" but that's all.) I know times are hard in local government but surely not so bad as to "survey by popular consensus?" If the tree is in the ownership / management of the LA, it ought to be safe to assume the competence / confidence exists within the LA to reach a decision? Help me out here, is the question being asked by a LA Tree Officer, a LA contractor, a campaigner for local traffic safety, a resident who doesn't like the tree or something else? Whilst not altering the physical state of the tree, it would add some context to the question. Separate question, the white lines on the road. If the tree is in the ownership of the LA, do the white lines on the road indicating the hazard exonerate the LA of any claim for damage to vehicles that might be involved in an impact? If not, then the potential for ongoing compensation claims might need to be included in the through life management costs of the tree - that alone could make retention an unattractive prospect. Interesting thread......
  2. Ancient and other veteran trees: further guidance on management (David Lonsdale) ISBN: 978-0-904853-09-4 £20 from Ancient Tree Forum Good book!
  3. Interesting! Don't hear of much enforcement down here. Is it more of an urban problem??
  4. Any chance of an overview of the nature / background of the dispute Ian. Just out of interest / possible learning opportunity. No worries if you think it inappropriate.
  5. Done. I know it's difficult to construct a decent, balanced survey but some of the questions in that one seemed predisposed to the assumption that nobody is interested. Just my view but it's no good trying to change behaviour at the operational end when there appears to be such carelessness at the strategic end. The definition of bio-security additional comments box I entered: "I would describe this definition as 'operational' guidelines rather than strategic. There is a lack of reference to national / international POLICY which should precede physical precautions. A recent and topical example of this shortfall might be the failure to impose a timely importation ban (EU free trade regulations) on Ash which has undoubtedly and markedly increased the rate and severity of spread for Chalara Fraxinea."
  6. Good points! You're right about the "eyes" thing. Got to go out so can't do a decent reply right now. Brain is ticking over though. Like you also say, we're all just bashing our gums and doing "what ifs", it'll be the TO and landowner that make the decisions.
  7. That's good! ^ Is it only aesthetic that provides "worth" in an urban tree though? At the risk of re-opening a fairly polarised debate from similar scenarios (home owner wants it gone - just fell it otherwise someone else will)
  8. Just watched QT on IPlayer. Certainly seemed like he was tuned out. Poor show from the production team if it was noticeable before the show went live. Hislop - didn't say much, but not a single word he said was wasted! The most realistic, accurate, attuned, honest and direct panelist for quite some time in my view. Natalie Bennett - blah, blah, blah, primroses, ban the bomb, teddy bears, peace & love, cloud cuckoo!
  9. It's quite straight forward: D7 exemption required if burning at the site the waste was generated (or get the customer to light the fire as a domestic bonfire.) If it's untreated green waste such as arisings from hedge trimming, the waste code is 02 01 03 Plant Tissue AN (absolute non-hazard) If it is being moved from the site where it was generated, registration on the lower tier as a waste carrier is required and a waste transfer ticket required using the code above. That's all you need if it's going to a registered waste reception centre. If you are batching / storing / burning at your own site you're into a whole raft of registrations and licences as a waste reception / processing centre. If the council are on the case it's probably wise to abide by the regs. 10. Nice! Aussies, telling it like it is for centuries.....!
  11. Hi Mark!! All well? I'm still mentally scarred from that TM course! Only thing to do is write the details down and send it to LA (is it Devon or Cornwall?) at least that way it'll get a response, it's traceable and somebody has to make a judgement and can be held to account for it. It's a constant downer to see bodgers and chancers riding rough shod over due process. Their time will come one day.... If you're out our way let me know and maybe catch up for a brew. You keep in touch with Shaun??
  12. Bugger! Was quietly hoping for something far more scary and sinister!
  13. Is there no end to it? Just seen this on a local selling site: Free free free. For collection only. Lots of wood. Woodgate road, Liskeard. Do people really collect rubbish and do garden clearance for free??
  14. Re- juiced Ty? Did they learn that on 41? Sounds like good PU!!
  15. I've been watching and desperately trying not to chip (ha) in where I don't know, and hoping someone else would mention it (so as to avoid MB's razor wit if I'm being a plank) but what about this.... It IS forestry if you need a FC felling licence? That may be the case depending on scale of the felling if it is a school? It may not qualify as an exemption so should have a FL? Did you need / have a FL? If yes, surely you're laughing and HMRC / VOSA can kiss your ass, or, if you should have, but didn't apply for a FL, you're up SC.... Good luck either way - I hope you can bend them over instead of having to take one!
  16. Forgive me for not having read the entire thread to see if this has been mentioned previously, just wondering if anyone has either accessed any research papers or considered a field trip East to have a look at how things have panned out in the areas that had the disease 15-20 years ago? It could be a cracking long weekend or short week field trip if well organised and a bloody good shin dig - and tax efficient!
