  1. We've got a local outfit, well established and respected saying flexible is no good and they won't do it. They use a NACE cast in situ concrete lining system - NACE Seems pricey though
  2. An old desiccated Beefsteak detached from an Oak or am I miles off as usual?
  3. Time for a liner down the old chimney since we have the scaffold in for another job. Any thoughts / experience of the pro's / cons / cost difference between stainless steel liner and a concrete / pumis void filling lining system?? Anyone done one recently?? What sort of cost is the concrete / pumis system??

I tried traps, always forgot where I'd buried them! Dog poo down the hole now, that sends 'em topside then the dogs do the rest!
  5. Just had a call back from Max at TreeKit. I'd asked a number of questions about CE / CoC tickets for a spliced retrievable strop. Here might be the problem - maybe some knowledgable LOLER types or David (Xman) might have some info / help? If I understand correctly, the rings are manufactured in Italy, branded and shipped Stateside then re shipped to UK? Propriety brand rope (various according to need) is then spliced around the rings. So where does that leave the end user in terms of presenting for next LOLER check and what might be the implications for the splicer / supplier? There is no CE for the piece of apparatus because it's a combo of different pieces. The rope may have original date / batch of manufacture, WLL, lifex, etc from the manufacturer, that is then compromised by splicing. It's ordered, it's on it's way, it'll be put to use this weekend. Making the paperwork match up might not be so easy though?
  6. Best book early, there's a bit of a run on them at TreeKit! Just ordered mine, hoping it will be here by the weekend - thank you Max!
  7. It's one of those rare things where it is as 'at home' as a staple on the fridge shelf in a small village shop as it would be if it were sold as a premium / luxury product in Harrods or a posh restaurant at a huge mark up! Simple, traditional, quality ingredients, quality product!
  8. :big grin: Saw first bumble bees of the year today, hope they are not venturing out too early!
  9. To do it properly and comply with legislation (some will, some won't) removing waste generated from a commercial enterprise requires registration as a waste carrier - grass cuttings come under Waste Classification code: 02 01 03 Plant tissue waste AN WASTES FROM AGRICULTURE, HORTICULTURE, AQUACULTURE, FORESTRY, HUNTING AND FISHING, FOOD PREPARATION AND PROCESSING Worth a bit of reading on EA website if you can bear it! It's pretty heavy and dull stuff!!
  10. Like it! Not infallible since I found it possible to 'guess', to a degree, which policies belonged to which party as I was going through the survey. Interesting tool though......
  11. It's been sub tropical down here for the weekend, T shirt weather!! (I know our tough Northern brethren💪 wear T shirt in -10 but we're a bit more delicate darn sarf 🍼!!)
  12. No personal offence intended John! Unreserved apology in that respect! It was ranting based upon long standing, consistent, frustrating and potentially costly personal experience. I'm not one to shirk personal responsibility for due diligence, quite honestly, about as far from it as it is possible to be. It's too late for a comprehensive reply tonight but in order to (attempt) to justify my rant I'll offer some background tomorrow.
  13. Saw my first mower out there today!
  14. As suggested above ^, get yourself connected with boaty types and builders doing barn conversions etc. Builders (in my experience) are generally lazy, untrained, ignorant, incompetent, unable to plan and implement anything past what they are actually doing at that exact moment regardless of the impact of their immediate actions on the next task or trade) which makes them absolute suckers for buying timber. They'd rather spend a ridiculous amount buying imported hardwood from the builders merchant (because it's easy and what they've always done and their retarded pea sized brains are incapable of independent thought) than looking for a good local source. That means if you have timber and know builders, you could cash in!
  15. Got it! I didn't realise Scotspine name was Tim..... (Had a Laithwaites delivery yesterday so bottle of red done, not reading straight!)
  16. Nothing as grand a scale as Bob's, my simple Alaskan and a couple of spare days at home (and this is Mont pine):
  17. I can't see that anyone has addressed this question (but I'm not sure where first names between folks that know each other are used rather than login names.) I see your point, not sure I could do the maths that applied to the loss of 'whole rope length load dissipation' between B & C as a percentage of the friction applied at the X ring in comparison to not having any friction like with a pulley? I'm not even sure I can express it adequately in words (but your diagram does!!) Reg (I hope you excuse me using your first name Reg since I haven't had the pleasure of meeting you!) recognises the advantage of adding an element of friction as a load reduction at the bollard so it's clear there is an element of friction, it must also follow then that the the question you raise is relevant - but how to work out how relevant? That's a teaser!
  18. Felling Licence is not overly onerous (and it's free) but you may not even need one if you are managing / reinstating the hedgerow through reductions which are quite traditional and you meet the exemptions? Felling licences exemptions (England)
  19. Any update on this Jim?? Did you go see LA or did you lay low??
  20. Do a search for "PTI" course, there's quite a few threads already. http://arbtalk.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?t=64739 Not sure if that link will work?
  21. Nice one! That's £700 you can spend on toys guilt free!
  22. You can register yourself self employed with a phone call / 10 mins on tinterweb: https://www.gov.uk/working-for-yourself/what-you-need-to-do Paying for someone to do it for you, unless there are some serious complications, seems really excessive as do the fee you've been quoted! Shop around a bit fella, sounds like you could save yourself an MS 661 (ex VaT)!!
