  1. Apol's if that's all a bit bitty, I don't have a horse in the race regarding the forestry issue - just reading it is interesting (sad, I know.) It seems peculiar that specified forestry equipment, under certain circumstances, is exempted from LOLER but would still (presumably) be subject to PUWER which, is probably a very similar inspection regime and timeframe to that of LOLER? Mini handler (Multione / Avant) I'm reading as requiring LOLER? Anyone know if that's correct??
  2. Fair point! it goes on to say..... "However, tree harvesters and forwarders with appropriate protective structures will not require thorough examination. Equipment used in forestry does not need to be thoroughly examined where: it does not lift loads over people and the operators of equipment are protected by: a roll-over protective structure (ROPS) or a tip-over protective structure (TOPS) combined with: a falling object protective structure (FOPS) and an operator protective structure (OPS)..."
  3. Frustrating to say the least! I thought the link in post 9 was fairly comprehensive and unequivocal (and it seems to accord with LOLER UK's comments.) Lifting equipment in forestry - Treework - HSE seems also to support? extract - "..What is lifting equipment in forestry? Any equipment that lifts or lowers loads, including: processing machines that lift as part of their function, eg: tree harvesters bed processors..." Is there another page somewhere that says the opposite?
  4. Definitely agree there's a significant element of that! Costs of supply & fit of solar PV / thermal / biomass etc have all tracked up & down in relation to the tariffs available. Pellet prices for example, and (anecdotally) logs have certainly jumped up with the roll out of domestic RHI and requirement to buy from BSL registered supplier.
  5. Nice one mucker! You are officially not within the group formerly referred to as the lazy, retarded and incapable!
  6. It was a feature on the Jeremy Vine show yesterday with some egg head professor government advisor describing his predictions of the potential detail subsequent to the Paris agreement. No doubt there are those that find the BBC a propaganda machine, or the Guardian, the Times, the Mirror, the Mail et al..... There's always someone that will fervently argue against whatever source is quoted. The links (simply plucked off Google), quite frankly, are fairly inconsequential, I only posted them so that the lazy, retarded and incapable would have something to rail against. Wether it comes to fruition or not, wether it makes any difference globally or not was not the point of making the observation.... I simply thought it might interest some and the likelihood would be, they'd be the ones likely to look it up for themselves.....
  7. Bugger! Wrong link!! Here's a recent one Britain will have to scrap gas boilers and cookers as it panders to UN climate change deal | UK | News | Daily Express Was a discussion wireless yesterday
  8. UK domestic gas supply to be cut off | EU Anyone else here this on the wireless yesterday?
  9. Totally agree! Lots of duffer outfits jumped on the band-wagon and don't have the depth of knowledge necessary for correct set to work and system optimisation not to mention follow-on support. Take lots of care selecting choice of system and installer Interesting discussion on wireless yesterday. As a consequence of Paris climate talks - apparently there may be a government aspiration to phase out (completely) gas fired boilers and cookers within 15 years! Gas fitters, boiler / cooker manufacturers, shares in British Gas etc - probably not a great investment right now???
  10. Primroses in the roadside bank yesterday:
  11. I stand to be corrected, but I think branches only count if the entire tree is felled. There's no FL requirement for pruning / crown reduction etc. Felling licences exemptions (England)
  12. Starting at the end and working backwards.... Yes No, but thinking now that you've highlighted it! No, but thinking now that you've highlighted it! Can it be called a change to 5837? Unless 5837 changes, surely it's not a change??
  13. Does it include the nipper by the bay window? If so, all above have massively under estimated!
  14. Only lose you an inch or so (2.5cm for our European friends!) from your available milling bar length wouldn't it? Is it really that critical? I found the same when mine went on the Alaskan but it didn't really make any difference - Could always get a longer bar?
  15. Felling licence may also be a consideration depending on volume, unless you're working within an approved woodland management plan? FC, Woodland Trust or Silvanus Trust can offer some advice if needed. Are you anywhere near Uplyme DT7 3SH? May have a small woodland regen to do up there - might be a bit far away for me to take it.
  16. Nice one! I miss those types of job...... Dreaming of a simpler life.....
  17. I was surprised how (relatively) expensive they seem since it appears to be pretty much a "one trick pony" (excuse the pun!!) https://www.riko-uk.com/category/42
  18. Bashed down 2 large Lawson last week. Mate arranged for a maid to come and collect some foliage. She took 2 transit tipper loads - bonus! And she bunged £20 as a thank you paid for the pasties!
  19. I'd say all of the above is spot on! (esp Bob's sharpening) Just got mine back from the shop after replacement (warranty) parts. Only done a couple of big fells and spotted this last week. They said it was just the panel but I haven't had chance (or inclination) to open it up and have a look inside yet (or sharpen it!)
  20. Tight-wad's variant! It lacks the weight advantage and doesn't have the lower the wind resistance of the purpose made item, it ain't as pretty, but it does the job alright.
  21. I carved it! You think it would work on that Italian offer?? (If only I could carve!)
  22. It's off the menu if the little one sees them first - camera shots only! Dam you Mr Disney!
