  1. Plan: Monday, strip the remaining tree. Tuesday, rain dance (don't work in the wet at my age!) Wednesday, see Tuesday Thursday, stay home with the nipper Friday, stay home with the nipper Saturday, stay home with the nipper/Mrs Sunday, see Saturday Monday, see previous Tuesday And so on..... 👍🏻🍺
  2. Right, that's 2 speccy references in as many weeks! How could you possibly know that after several years of attempting to convince myself otherwise, I went to specsavers recently and got myself some glasses??
  3. Cheese and single malt Sean.....? That's probably the most offensive thing I've ever seen on Arbtalk!
  4. What's a Prussian schooling system? We've been looking at primary schools this week for the little monster ready for next September.
  5. Yes mate, it was the one we talked about before!! It's all gone quiet for the time being but I need to poke the landowner again soon. I couldn't get (what I thought was) a sensible answer from TO or FC rep. I think it was "too hard" so I got views and opinions. I let it ride because it's the land owner rather than myself that carries the liability. I just wanted to try and get a definitive answer, I think I set my sights / expectation too high!! Don't spend any valuable time pondering it (unless it suits!!)
  6. Excellent vid! Can it count as a chog if it's cut with a THS?? Got these to lump down next week, not much ground space and a vintage car in the garage!
  7. Bill him for the admin time sounds like what he deserves!! Bosses can be a PITA and employees can be idle..... Swings & roundabouts no? We were working at a dairy last week, smoking shelter outside main office building. For the full period we were there working, there were no less than 2 people in that shelter all day. That would mean that at least 2 peoples' salaries per day (it's a 24hr / 365day operation) are lost to smoking. You could put that down to slack management I guess. Not sure there's a point to make here, just an observation really....
  8. Recently had just that scenario Gary. Approved to fell 4x Mont pine within a linear group TPO of 21 trees, valid 2 years, conditioned to replant. Felled 2 - replant condition applies. Reduced back weight on 1, took the top out and left the stem of the 4th. Money issues with land owner precluded completion of the full spec. There was a 5th that split a side and I took it down as a 5-day notice. TO chased up replanting expecting 5 new trees. Chased me until I pointed out that the condition applies to the land owner not the contractor but that's another story! I pointed out that only 2 had been felled with re-plant condition and 1 felled as a 5 day notice (conditions not applicable) and since 2 had not been felled there couldn't be a replant condition. Any lesser work up to and including felling was, by default, approved by dint of the felling approval according to the TO. This scenario gets a bit more complicated in that I initially applied for and gained approval for TPO work, then afterwards realised I'd need a FL so applied and got that too. It's only a matter of interest and procedure, but I suggested to the TO that they should perhaps have cancelled the TPO application once it was realised that a FL was required and as such, it should be FC not LA that are chasing up the replant. Any thoughts on that??
  9. Bought a new cast casserole pot a few weeks back, as soon as the weather changes and the second stove (flat top) gets fired up, it'll be brought into action! Looking forward to it!
  10. Try and encourage early subscription with a discount for Summer deliveries - extend the selling season and ease surge demand? Maybe a pre-payment scheme to ensure stock is held back for delivery for those unable to take bulk early? I expect these options have been tried by the big boys, can't see it being easy to get folks to part with their cash any sooner than is absolutely necessary....

  12. Hats off to you mate! That sounds like a long road you've travelled.
  13. Gary, yr point in 55 about replacing with a tree of similar size, agreed, in theory, a possible outcome of restitution imposed by the beak, but in practice, surely the roots of a replacement of similar size would necessarily need to cross the boundary to be viable (mindful that this row appears to be right on the boundary) I can't see, in reality, that it would be appropriate or enforceable to impose the rooting area of a replacement tree across an existing boundary. Notwithstanding the fairly well accepted wisdom and logic of the arguments against the actions of the neighbour with the shovel, my sympathy (for what it's worth) is leaning towards the man with the shovel!
  14. That's awkward! Sound like good neighbours....
  15. Dig a preparatory trench before trees become established?? Or write and tell them your intentions to dig a trench. Then they're informed of your intentions so if they fail to install a root barrier, they are negligent if the roots cross your boundary and your rightful actions destabilise their trees!
  16. They are pretty nails up North though..... Leeds pub garden floods, men go for pint anyway - BBC Newsbeat
  17. It was listening to a hospitality recruitment consultant and (separately) a RHA rep on t'wireless that got me thinking to look at a couple of other trades - simple google search - there's a fairly comprehensive left to right of media sweep which (tin hat excepted) appears to indicate the reality of the situation. I'd rather see the funds allocated to immigration (under the false pretence that the economy or the NHS actually needs immigration) allocated to effective training / upskilling to fill the shortage categories.
  18. I'm not so sure Eggs, was listening to a chap on the wireless from Road Transport Hauliers association or some such like, he was saying about the salaries for drivers... Quite impressive I thought (can't remember the precise detail.) Apparently, the main snag is recruiting young drivers when insurance is so high until 25+ so missing the post school / college types who are already embarked on another career path by age 25. Similar for chefs (in Cornwall) - really short so salaries are climbing. Businesses just can't get staff. Seems a bit mad to me.
