  1. Don't let them dictate. I had a tussle with them over 10/11 return. It's still not resolved. I wouldn't give in, kept all correspondence, kept reminding them of their errors and administrative ineptitude. Would get a written acknowledge of their error and an apology, then next letter they'd do it again! Record was 4 apologies for the very same error. Went to appeal with HMRC, rejected. Went to tribunal, still waiting for a decision. HMRC rep was a clown at tribunal. I spoke for 4hrs, he spoke for 10mins. At the end the judge said thank you for being such a credible and convincing witness. It's fingers crossed til I get the decision. It should have been a decision on the day but because I tied HMRC geek up in knots and he was so inept, they couldn't make a decision on the day. We're getting close to 3 months now though which is a bit bloody rich!
  2. I don't understand what product liability would cover Joy. Is it in case a customer gets a chimney fire or if they drop a chunk and break a toe? Am I missing the key requirement or being a bit dense?
  3. 👍🏻 Especially "the special visit." It's the bar steward that knows they're going down but still call in trades even though they know they ain't going to pay that grip my whistle.
  4. He he can sell that for 400, he should be on the apprentice!
  5. I'm on the same page! You'd just as well try and stop the tide, it might work for a short time but there's an inevitability to failure
  6. I hadn't encountered it before, interesting concept! I like it. In the OPs context though, impossible to price a job against such a vague spec. Good learning and thanks for sharing OP.
  7. I'm not sure it's not so much the vendors place to dictate how much should be carried so far as I can tell from what I've read Stubby. If I understand it correctly - no guarantee of that of course - it's 2x plastic 5l cans or 1x metal 10l. It's not necessarily the vendor that'll get crapped on if the vehicle carrying the fuel gets in trouble but the driver. Woody, I think, and I'm only guessing, that a 10l metal can, rather than a 20l metal can is less likely to have ullage where vapour can accumulate?? All we can do is try our best I guess, it's certainly not clear so far as I can make out. I carry it on the roof of the 110 or in a holder in the trailer. It's the best compromise and attempt at 'doing the right thing' I can find.
  8. It'll come..... He's just playing his audience!!
  9. I'm surprised there appears to be such a willingness to carry excessive amounts of fuel. I know we sometimes need it for a job but does that justify carrying excessive amounts in potentially unsuitable containers possibly inside vehicles? For a business sector that seems to bend itself out of shape over so many rules & regs it seems at odds that carrying petrol appears so care free? There is guidance, like so many other considerations, ignoring the guidance is all ok until the excrement hits the air conditioning - then your insurance is in the hills and you stand before the beak - I'm can't understand why it seems to not carry the same sort of stigma on the forum as, for example, steel to steel crab, home made trailer, lack of appropriate training, etc etc.....?
  10. What happened to the mega hyped retort on that other thread (can't remember which it was, but the pictorial abbreviations were legend.) You promised us a hum-dinger! Did I miss it??
  11. What is a jerry can? A guide on how to legally store petrol - BBC Newsbeat
  12. Just been trying to find a source of info that might support the "initiate veteranisation" concept. Nothing really in Ancient & other veteran trees: further guidance on management, or Ancient Tree Guide no.7: Ancient Trees for the Future, but a quick google kicked up this - https://www.cityoflondon.gov.uk/things-to-do/green-spaces/city-commons/ashtead-common/wildlife-and-nature/Documents/City-commons-veteranisation-information.pdf and this - http://www.pro-natura.net/publikat-filer/Veteranisation%20of%20oak_paper_Bengtsson%20et%20al_Sheffield.pdf another school day!
  13. That seems a strange concept? Leave them be and they'll do it themselves springs to mind?? Hopefully someone will be along to offer an insight into the possible reason / method of undertaking such an action - or confirm the questionable nature of such proposal?
  14. Thanks Jules/ Chris. Will try & find that paper.
  15. Rather agree with you! Give em the State they want (been done before) let them and all who want to be like / with them live in their way, in their own area. See how attractive that is to the sympathisers.
  16. Not seen anything quite as pronounced as the mid height stem bulge in this Beech before. I'm not sure the pictures do it justice, are the historic pruning cuts of lower branches likely to have lead to such bulging? The wall behind the tree is a complicating factor but I can't see that being the cause of the bulging either. Any insights or comments (or further detail required in order to make a comment) much appreciated
  17. BASC's position and general guidance on use of lead shot is here: Lead and Non-Lead Shot | The British Association for Shooting and Conservation
  18. Thanks for posting the link Mick! Ties in nicely with the assignment we picked up on Monday. Will make for a great reference and as the starting point for further investigation/ reading.
  19. Mmmmmmm...... A free vote for Labour MPs under threat of being deposed if he didn't? A leader with personal views so at odds with the party's MPs - a recipe for s short reign?
  20. Fine eye for detail Rob (guess what I'll be checking tomorrow!)
