  1. Interested to hear how that goes County. You know what springs to my mind, have they asked to book an appointment and sought to see what your terms & rates are for the time of yours they take? I know it's a bit of a wind up, but seems to me that's how public sector is going. If HSE come and audit you after an incident they send you a bill for their time, why shouldn't it work the other way?
  2. Drawing down farm subsidies by virtue of land owned rather than actually farming - but hey, that's a whole other issue. What grips me with the (as reported) scenario is that the maggots that lead a life of crime, anarchy, disregard for society are so quick to draw the very same comfort blanket of societal rules and regulations over themselves when one of their victims bites back. Shot in the front, shot in the back, all the same to me, one less cockroach leaching an existence from the society they so readily crap on. If I were to meet the surviving crim or the victim, I know which one I'd sit down with. By all means live your own life by your own virtues, but if that means ignoring the basic rules of humanity / society, don't expect to come crawling back for the protection and security of the society you've chosen to live outside and certainly don't expect sympathy when your day goes bad.
  3. Do they accept / welcome samples from Joe Public David? If so, do you know if there is a fee or a website link that details procedures, turn around times etc?
  4. Nice looking truck that! I've done my tax dump impulse buy for 2015/16 but maybe next year!
  5. Those labourers look a bit shifty! You'll need to keep a close eye on them!!
  6. Now there's a sketch with infinite potential for a good old chuckle!
  7. Might get a buyer at 5-8k (private sale no VaT) anymore than that and it's priced to keep not sell.

  9. 👍🏻 More than 50 idiots bashing their gums and most of them are in Brussels! A fair portion of the broader problem lays at the door of the European Parliament: Can't dredge because it might upset a vole and the arisings would be hazardous waste! Additional payments to farmers to grub out upland vegetation to increase grazing (then further additional payments to artificially impede rivers!) A "head count" on the number of trees allowed in a field before being disqualified for subsidy. As if that isn't enough, Why isn't UK government putting a bid in to the EU for disaster relief assistance? UK paid IN 36million to the fund this year, time for some payback! They'll have to be a bloody compelling argument to change my mind come EU referendum day!
  10. Good (and timely for me!) insight into your thoughts and potential solutions there Eddie. I'm not blessed with great engineering knowledge so it's useful to hear your thoughts! Albeit on a considerably smaller scale machine, I'm in the market for a shear in the early new year. I "thought" I wanted a grab and cut arrangement but after talking to Andrew @ Exac and listening to his logic I'm settled on the shear without a grab. His logic being, unless mounted on a machine of considerable weight, best not to transfer the weight of the cut tree onto the machine (MulitiOne 7.3S in my case) Appreciate its horses for courses, but since it's not precision or area restricted cutting, I can tolerate the absence of a grab. Unless I'm missing something you might have experienced??
  11. That's fraught with danger chap! That's just an invitation for THEM to tell YOU what they think they should be paying. Be wary, but don't be afraid to fall on the floor, kick your legs up in the air and send forth outrageous belly roars of laughter when they say they thought it'd be £50 cash.
  12. At risk of being Mr Picky, and only playing Devil's advocaat (nod to seasonal beverage), there's only a labourer available, not a second climber. Rigging is mentioned but technically an astute customer ought to ask for suitable qual's and possibly reference to previous customers. You'd fail at the first with a switched on customer. Are you providing a written quote that details the levels of competence and staffing necessary for climbing and rigging. Maybe it's not your pricing but possibly your presentation? Just a thought fella. I've secured jobs where I've been 100's over nearest quote but have taken the job because I provided a comprehensive written quote rather than an intake of breath, a pause and plucking a number out of the air which is what I'm sometimes told the other contenders have done. Think Stella Artois - reassuringly expensive! A fringe benefit is that it tends to wheedle out the PITA customers!
  13. Anyone watch that film "Purge" on Film4 last night? 1 night each year all crime is legal so as to allow human nature to purge its "dark side" thus allowing 364 days of relative peace & harmony. Doesn't add much to the original discussion question but it kind of picks up on the UK/US differences in opinion over wether guns are a force for good through self defence or a liability in raising the stakes. Pretty rubbish film tbh!
  14. Sorry! Missed it first time round!! No, no need to explain
  15. I had similar with Beech! Felled it into field day 1 (farmer was going to move the cattle but hadn't.) Day 2 came back to sort out some brash - and there it wasn't!
  16. You still feeling the pull of the Zennor mermaid Paul??
  17. 👍🏻👍🏻 Keep those insights coming Chris!!
  18. I've just done the same...... That's 20 minutes I won't get back! :blushing:
