  1. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻 I'm not saying I wouldn't change places with a soft handed range rover driver given the chance though!!
  2. Was first time I'd been. Here's detail and contact: Dear All Thank you for booking on to the Pasty & Pint Evening for Forestry on Wednesday 10th February 2016. The event will start at 6.30pm at: Lakeside Country Club Old Coach Rd Lanivet PL30 5JJ There is plenty of free parking at the venue including an overflow car park at the rear. The event is located on the 1st floor and accessed via two flights of stairs. If this poses a problem for anyone with limited mobility please let us know. There is no need to print your ticket as we will have a record of your booking on the door. We look forward to seeing you there. If you are unable to attend, please let us know. Many thanks, Kind regards Tracy Fry Area Admin Officer Forestry Commission - SW Area Office Bullers Hill, Kennford, Exeter, EX6 7XR 0300 067 5549 [email protected] Apparently it happens every now & then - not sure how often maybe 1/4ly or 6monthly or something. There's this one coming up soon too: SW Tree Health Event agenda for 23 March 2016.pdf
  3. Didn't see it but it sounds like a contradiction of one of the most basic and fundamental principles of survival techniques. Do only that which produces maximum effect whilst expending minimum energy / effort / resource.
  4. My good friend & neighbour has a holiday park nearby, he has a "gardener" who knows everything about everything, nothing he doesn't know..... (apparently) Every year the fruiting bodies multiply and spread as shown in the picture, every year he mows them with the ride-on and then carries on around the rest of the estate. It horrifies me but, since they know best, I've given up warning of the potential to infect the entire site and potentially loose some very impressive and important trees. It's almost an act of criminal negligence but you can't tell people that don't want to listen! AA booklet Fungi on Trees p12 says "...the fungus can spread from colonised stumps and roots to surrounding trees, particularly if there is a lack of natural suppression, in the form of fallen deadwood, colonised by other (beneficial) decay fungi performing natural control..." I've tried to convince my mate to instal some piles of deadwood to encourage other fungi as it decomposes and see if there is any suppression of the ever increasing Honey fungus fruiting bodies - they're not interested, it's just got to be plain old cut grass because it "looks tidy and well maintained."
  5. Yes, yes! Maybe bringing some "smaller" kit along if we can get the arrangements sorted! Look forward to it!!
  6. Sharp edges Paul.... most likely only ever seen holding a soft handed, top-of-range Rangerover owners keys!!
  7. For info in case folks might be interested! Woodfuel event Tamar 26 Feb 2016.pdf
  8. It's probably a low tech and basic level offering of an answer in comparison to something that will come later, but made me think there might be an answer here: file:///Users/kevinjohnsonmbe/Downloads/L6%20stuff/Honey%20Fungus%20-%20Friend%20or%20Foe%3F.webarchive Edit - this link doesn't look like it'll work so try a tax dodging barstewrd's (google) search for this: Honey Fungus - Friend or Foe? by Paul F Hamlyn Published in the October 2001 issue of NWFG Newsletter (ISSN 1465-8054) I don't think there was an answer there but the very last entry of further information offers this: https://www.rhs.org.uk/science/pdf/plant-health/survival-of-honey-fungus-in-wood-and-bark-chip-mul Haven't read it in full but it may offer an insight?? Glad you asked because now I have to read it myself!
  9. Not wishing to upset anyone if I've forgotten them, a quick list off the top of my head: Mendiplogs - personal Gary Prentice & Chris@Eden - Lv6 advice David Humphries - ongoing fungal contributions (not a medical condition!) Jules (Daltontrees)- advice and discussion
  10. Ted, thought you might like this short expose of the Australian psyche produced, released and distributed by the Australian government department for the Arts, Culture & Media: 😆🍻🍤🏄🏼⛱
  11. :thumbup1: Oz rocks! Enjoy!! (and hopefully be profitable!!)
  12. Shouldn't need to be shown it. It ought to be basic knowledge!
  13. Survey done , a couple of questions though...... If you have it as anonymous how can you verify that respondents are QTRA trained / registered? Question 2 - "I am currently QTRA registered but am unsure if I will renew" A bit "leading" since there is no " I am and I will" alternative. Question 4 only allows for 1 option rather than multiple options which would probably be more appropriate. Question 14 - are you QTRA aware / registered? All of the options in 14 seemed at odds with QTRA practice??
  14. And on that note, the phone rang and I'm off to look at an emergency!
  15. As described in Public Safety & Risk Assessment - Improving Decision Making David J Ball & Laurence Ball-King ISBN 978-1-84971-381-8 Subjectivity & objectivity p28 Availability of images can have a significant and unreasonably biased impact upon the objectivity of risk awareness. "...If you have experienced directly, or even indirectly through a recent news story or even a Hollywood film, some memorable accident, you will be inclined to rate the probability of a reoccurrence as higher than it actually is..." Good news story = a likely increase in paranoia !
  16. With the benefit of hindsight, and a new age of awareness of sarcasm, irony and sense of humour (difficult in the 2 dimensional realm of internet forumming (made up word)) I chortle unreservedly at your appreciation of my appreciation of your appreciation of my appreciation etc, etc, etc! More iconography required!!
  17. No, no.... Mention the travelling community and the band wagon express will departs full to the gunwales with indignant outrage at lawlessness and disregard for society! There'll be some old sweat along claiming "Grandfather rights" to use weapons grade plutonium as weedkiller soon..... Head in hands in despair!
  18. That is EXACTLY the picture I was going to post! It sums it up perfectly!! What a toss thread! It was post 24 before anyone even mentioned legalities / EA - is it any wonder Joe Public think of the sector as gardeners with ropes?
  19. I'm not so sure.... It seems the (slightly) older guys are wishing they were younger - and with less commitments!
  20. That would get an almighty FO pill!
  21. No! Definitely not an emergency!! That's just a case of bad planning.... Should have stayed at home until after HUTH had finished! Time of day has a relevance to the hypothetical scenario perhaps. If 1 has to leave in the only vehicle and the remainder are left behind, why not simply ring the guv'nor and explain circumstances and that some contingency is required to get them home after they've stayed on and done 3 men's work between 2 of them?
