  1. Maybe avoid referring to it as "tree surgery" and pronounce it "forestry?" Or, maybe, apply to have the condition removed??
  2. PS. Post #2 was the most succinct and appropriate response....
  3. Two sides to every coin. The pity is, after stating a set of circumstances and seeking advice, the OP (and those on the one side of the coin) appear keener to rubbish the sound, clearly beneficial and potentially legally binding advice presented by the other side of the coin. It appears obvious that the circumstances described relate to an inexperienced, poorly prepared, planned and executed task out with the published industry guidelines, probably for cash, possibly in conflict with employment contract and under the HMRC radar. (All that is pretty apparent from what the OP has / had not said.) Seriously? And you think it sensible / appropriate to take offence, get a hairy shirt on and sling insults at those that have taken the time to offer a perspective broader than that which you have stated? Were you aware of some of the potential pitfalls that have been highlighted?
  4. I'd go a step further there Chris.... The sweet feeling of achievement is best enjoyed after knowing the pain of disappointment from having set the bar too high and failed to achieve it. Best hiring that in as required! Just pay for the bit you want.... Defo! I like the Dalai Lama's take on it.....
  5. As is so often the case, it's the idiot at the other end of the lead that gives a dog a bad rap. Wise words on the tail issue. Why should my predisposition deprive the dog of a natural appendage Great picture!
  6. We've strayed well off Poplar stems..... But that is an exceptional looking gang! Tails? I know it can be a bit controversial, but I can't get used to seeing them with. If I had another he'd have to work with the gun and lose the tail.
  7. Shirley is some old bus if they are!!
  8. Always a wrench when you lose one. He looks like a lovely boy. It's been over 20 years since I've had a Rotty. We lost our lovely boy a year ago, down to 1 for the time being but will be looking again soon. We were offered his sister who had just won best in breed and was in the pastoral group final at Crufts 2015 but it was too soon. I'd dearly love to have another Rotty but we've had exceptional good fortune in being gifted first class champion GSDs for the past 10 years.
  9. At last.... Reality in a hypothetical discussion!
  10. I saw this on TV a while back, month or so I think, on the Beeb. Could it be argued (perhaps, in the crazy world of office dwellers) that this is how he (and possibly others??) derive their "amenity value" from trees? Does it really do any harm or could it possibly raise the profile and public awareness of some (pretty whacky) individuals' perception of the benefits of trees? If there really are any people out there daft enough to be parted with their money in return for a book that tells you how to do what a child can do - climb trees - is it really all bad? I'll reconsider this post after the upsurge in fatalities from tree falls... Will accidents associated with bare foot tree climbing antics be included in industry accident stats and cause HSE to revisit the issue of top handles saws.....?? What a mine field!
  11. I've been wanting to ask how it was going but no doubt you've had greater priorities of late. I've been similar with L6.
  12. Substitute brave for stupid / desperate? If they think the timber is worth equal to, or greater than, the cost of getting the trees down, I wouldn't expect to see them gone anytime soon.....
  13. I guess it's up to the customer what they stipulate as prerequisite qualifications. I'd do it if that's what they want - but it'd come with a cost attached. I'd paint myself orange if that's what they want, but it'd come with a cost attached. When some of these customers realise their apparently superfluous stipulations come with financial implications they might take a more pragmatic approach Until then.... It comes with a cost attached!
  14. Have you checked out Rob's kit and videos here: Products for the category: Chainsaw mills Good stuff and maybe a better option for starting milling!
  15. As above! Unless you're "teaching" the kids how to do your work, forget it. Do you think the plumber that works at the school is CRB checked. Complete tosh.
