  1. Well, it's looks like a great deal of work has been done on species suitability, the ability of land fill 'cap' to resist root penetration and survivability rates.... http://webarchive.nationalarchives.gov.uk/20120919132719/http://www.communities.gov.uk/documents/planningandbuilding/pdf/825167.pdf Enough reading and pointers to be getting on with!
  2. Looking positive here..... http://www.forestry.gov.uk/pdf/FCTP022.pdf/$FILE/FCTP022.pdf Need to find something that relates timescales of in-fill land settlement and the potential effect it may (or not) have on trees planted in the settling area..... Back to Google....
  3. I'm looking at a situation where a fairly broad range of trees have been planted (late 70's - mid 80's) on a landscaped area of former salt water creek and reclaimed land fill which is now public access recreational land. Over a number of site visits a couple of notable observations are apparent: (1) There appear to be greater than might be expected exposed surface roots. (2) Many trees "appear" to have been planted proud of the surrounding soil level. (3) Notwithstanding the recent high winds, there exists a leaning habit and full / partial wind throw in the prevailing wind direction. I'm going to start with this (http://www.forestry.gov.uk/pdf/fcin078.pdf/$FILE/fcin078.pdf) and look through the noted references for any info that might support (or exclude) an early thought that perhaps ground settlement in the decades after planting may have lowered the ground level surrounding trees, but that the formative rooting systems may have "held up" some of the soil in the immediate area, but that now trees are standing proud and are suffering wind throw rather more than they ought to. Anyone encountered ground settlement on in-fill or reclaimed land previously or have any suggestions for good reference sources?? It's an interesting (but perhaps not uncommon) scenario where the current land owner is potentially going to have to pick up financial and liability issues for the (maybe) poorly considered actions of their predecessors of 40 years ago.
  4. No public money expenditure Richard - it's a private estate.
  5. You may jest.... But, in all seriousness, with a Royal visit due tomorrow, the grass has been dyed green in places.... I kid you not!! 😳
  6. And there'd be a world surplus of speedy Gonzalez block layers looking for work!
  7. Too sharp! That's probably spoilt my fun for the day.....
  8. The new fascism is the Marxist tendency (lightly disguised in a pseudo liberal left veil of respectability) to suppress any expression that doesn't accord with the party doctrine as "fascist." (Godwin's Law.) Take the Corbyn cabinet as a real and current example.... If you don't have a signed copy of the little red book you're out! So take the "Trump wall" issue. Each country has a right and a duty to protect it's borders. The Mexican border is semi-porous so the law, as it currently stands, is not being enforced effectively. A "wall" might achieve that - but so would changing the law so that a wall was not necessary. So instead of criticising Trump for talking about a wall, why are those that appear so opposed to it not lobbying their prospective presidential candidate for a change in the law? Why aren't those other candidates proclaiming their intention to change the law? That's politics for ya - find and exploit the popular concept, avoid the unpopular. At least he has a view and a vision, it's seems suspiciously absent in the others.....
  9. Well, that'll put an end to the endless comparison discussions then!
  10. Good review there Adam! How did the all important price comparison pan out (understand if you prefer to keep that under wraps for discretion.)
  11. 👍🏻 Be interesting to hear what you think of it if you get to have play. I wonder if it might be just be a little bit too big / pricey for the general purpose utility nature of the machine.
  12. Posted this before but thought you might like....?
  13. I was watching Paul.... Just didn't have time / something to add!! That's the one I was thinking of, just my thoughts but I wondered if the users had become slaves to the system rather than masters of it and had defaulted to the RA assumption that MEWP is inherently safer rather than actually applying the prevailing circumstances to arrive at an effective RA output. I bet they had a piece of paper that satisfied the audit trail - from the office. Can't fix stupid or lazy, but you can fix poor supervision / management!
  14. Full on agreement here. There was the incident a while back where the MEWP went over in a park. I'd suspect a significant factor in the operator error was the mindset that had been adopted / imposed which required a MEWP to be considered as the safe default and climbing only as a less attractive option. So the "system" was applied but the human factor made (or perhaps more accurately DIDNT make) the appropriate thought process behind the system. That's part of the problem with systems - the blind compliance of lazy fools. I remember having this discussion at the AAAC workshop Paul.
  15. That's some brave taking a 110 & trailer across the Tamar! Reverse parking it roadside too, that's got to be lottery odds on finding a double spot! 👍🏻
  16. Maybe, on Kensington High Street, but it's not quite set up like that in rural Cornwall.....
  17. Thanks 👍🏻appreciate it. Not sure they quite "get" it though - who are they make the ticket out to??
  18. Quite right! Nicely quantified.
  19. Splits & dries nicely. Burns well, I rather like it.
  20. How are you finding life with a baby Brett? Bloody tiring innit!
  21. Or.... Supacat 6x6 MK II - 11803 - Ex Army UK » Ex Military vehicles, Ex. Mod Sales and Nato plant and equipment for sale and export (I know, budget, budget, budget..... But how much fun would it be!)
  22. An interesting turn of opinion! I'm not entirely in disagreement with you!
  23. And that's with FA interest rate Mr Eggs! Imagine the bonanza it they were at 12% - I might even stop working!!
