  1. Got any pics?? Sounds groovy!
  2. The paper should be marked and moderated to ensure validity. There should also be a mechanism for review in case of dispute / dissatisfaction. Have you discussed it with the provider?
  3. It's all relative Beau! I wouldn't want to live in SW London unless someone was paying me 190k to do so. They are just mice on a wheel chasing the cheese but never getting it!
  4. Are you going to the arb show? There will be a demo / trade stand there - get some "hands on time!" Or, if you're thinking about the relative pros v cons of mini skid steer etc, there is lots of info in previous threads (search mini skid steer, avant, multione.) Several people, myself included, have had these discussions / decisions so there's lots of info, advice and opinions already available to review. In the end, it comes down to what you want / need and what will deliver best return in your work zone at a price you can accept. MultiOne UK are doing a demo machine sale at the moment so you might grab a good deal. Good luck with the journey!1
  5. Just a short clip of some old school hand crafted fishing rods, thought maybe worthy of a share:
  6. DPD = reliable UKMail = ridiculous What grieves me, is having bought something online, the contract of sale is between me and the vendor and yet when deliveries fail, I have to liaise with the courier. I have no contract with the courier. My purchase price includes delivery which is sub contracted by the vendor to the courier. Poor 3PL courier reflects badly on the contracting ability of the vendor. I will usually ask which courier is used and cancel anything expected to be delivered by UKMail. A vendors reputation can be destroyed (or enhanced) by the 3PL contractor within the final mile of the delivery system. Reputable retailers that engage shoddy delivery contractors are doing them self no favours!
  7. Are you asking because you are the line manager and not sure what action might be suitable? Cost to replace = Husqvarna 560XP chainsaw (59.8cc) What would be the cost of a disenchanted employee and potential union / civil action for inappropriate (mis) management? Neither a small firm, nor a large one, is empowered to deduct from wages for loss / breakages - there are elements like AIA in the tax return which take account of running costs for businesses. Frustrating, infuriating, costly.... Yes of course. Presuming it's a first occasion, the person is probably beating themselves up anyway. Disciplinary..... is that the best course of action or might it be better to take the example as a training / learning experience for all the staff?
  8. They have some at Eden project, I was distracted by them last weekend whilst the little one was captivated by "Andy's dinosaur adventure!" https://www.edenproject.com/learn/for-everyone/plant-profiles/cork-oak
  9. Steve, just in case you think it might apply, http://www.hse.gov.uk/safetybulletins/brush-cutters.htm looks at fitting "non-standard" attachments to strimmers. I'm not sure it is the actual article I was thinking of, but I recall seeing something from HSE more recently about fitting alternative cutting heads to strimmers. Maybe a bit nanny state for some but I thought I'd post it just in case it's of interest.
  10. If you did the original application, perhaps yours contained sufficient detail and justification for felling and the later one did not? Seems a possible example of poor record keeping by LA since if an extant approval already existed perhaps they might have queried or rejected the subsequent one? Who knows, merged areas of responsibility, staff shortages, overtime restrictions... Could all play a part.
  11. If you are set on chip, have you considered a knife mill to reduce / refine chip from a fairly regular arb chipper down to the spec needed by the boiler? A bit more labour intensive but on a domestic scale probably quite a manageable option. I have a Pallmann Industries knife mill that I picked up at an auction sale when I was thinking along similar lines.... Like this but older: PS Series 300 PALLMANN Granulator - Knife Mill Didn't use it in the end as I went down the pellet route - if you think it might be an option it's available for sale at a song!
  12. Maybe worth a look here for some info on DIY pellet production... Requires access to a consistent source of sawdust but if you can crack that it might be worth consideration? I've got this machine and a pellet boiler, happy to share any info if you'd like.
  13. 3mm is pellet rather than chip no? Are you thinking pellet or chip??
  14. The biggest problem you may have is knowing the difference between good advice and speculation....
  15. Could I ask a question here, I don't "do" or understand this sector....? Am I reading your post correctly? How is it possible / viable to price by m3 of the timber to be moved rather than by the distance / complexity of the route? Is it standard practice to price by volume?
  16. I hoped you wouldn't mind my attempt at interpreting your intent...
  17. Ain't that the truth! And they'll drop you innit as quick as a flash!! That looked like a cheeky little number you had there
  18. Fair one.... I wasn't criticising, just trying to read between the lines and maybe defuse some of the apparent conflict in the thread between those doing (probably what a good many have done) and those being accused of some sort of aloofness for stating procedural correctness.
  19. Without passing judgement or taking sides, or saying I don't do the same myself sometimes, there is potential for an error in the RA / MS if you didn't have a closure licence from the LA to close / temporary divert the footpath. Which, I think, Treequip is referring to. Whilst "speaking to the insurance company" and thinking you did everything right, and thinking the member of the public was a numpty, if the footpath wasn't closed / diverted by authority of the LA, no amount of cones, tape, signs, claymores, razor wire or machine gun nests make any difference at all to that member of the publics right to free passage. I agree, most "normal", sensible, rational people would just steer clear.... But maybe he was a parish councillor or vice chair of the Ramblers Association or just a chap that "always goes that way." All I'm saying is, I wouldn't rely on a verbal comment from someone at the insurance company call centre when the loss adjuster and H&S investigation find that the numpty was struck by a branch being felled over a PRoW that hadn't been officially closed. Just saying, not judging or criticising, and not saying I might not do the same under certain circumstances..... But I wouldn't say "I've followed the correct procedure" regardless of how many cones I'd deployed unless the closure notice was official.
  20. It may be that there is insufficient acreage for the small holding to be a viable business (bit of a joke since they say 60% of a farms' income is in benefits anyway so can't see any being viable in that case) but that the residence is conditioned so as to protect available / affordable housing for sector workers?
  21. I'm guessing you're trying to find a price range somebody might pay you to fell and remove your trees? Like any sale, there will be many variables - you say some need felling and it's a difficult extraction.... It's not sounding like an arrangement that is attractive. You may be lucky to give it away... You may even have to adjust your expectation and actually pay someone..... Pictures, dimensions, qty, location might help. If there is someone nearby that just happens to need or want what you have, you might get lucky.
