  1. That's the power of social media right there! If you can get an example of NR refusing to do something similar when it would appear to be the "neighbourly" thing to do when it's their trees causing (shall we say) inconvenience, there could possibly be a precedent to prevent them from imposing their will upon you - maybe?
  2. And probably take the house too. It's not just the immediate train that is delayed that you could be charged for, it's every single connecting service (potentially across the entire country!) if the driver so much as sees work he "unhappy" with adjacent to a line. Difficult to state what any particular driver might consider "potentially hazardous", it's as vague as to depend entirely upon the temperament and opinion of an individual driver. NR has the history, capacity and capability to bankrupt if they decide to. There was an example of a scaffold from an adjacent private house falling on the track near Dawlish a while back but I can't find the weblink - The householder was hammered! Tale of two trees that cost Northern Rail almost £100,000 | Media centre - HSE Tell 'em if they want it done, they can crack on! (at their own expense!)
  3. NR - especially those in "safety" roles are singularly the most institutionalised (their own!) corporate bullies I have ever encountered. Have you tried informing them that you would be content for them to reduce the overhang back to the boundary? Since you mention living in the the old station house are there any specific liabilities / way leaves / covenants that might apply?
  4. Didn't see any on this tree but it was a fairly quick look to quote for removal. May get a closer look if invited to remove it. Nearby on another Oak there are large Inonotus dryadeus + desiccated bodies + several previous fruiting points, and extensive hollowing. I've been casually observing these for a couple of years. I'm hoping they may soon realise there may be a requirement for inspections.
  5. Been called out to see this one today.... Golf course, very lucky it didn't cause damage / harm given the proximity of the footpath....
  6. At £12-15/hr (London) why would anyone want to? Tree Officer (Planning) Job in London - CTC Recruitment At those rates it's clearly not a "valued" profession in a LA organisation and I can't see that situation improving anytime soon.... I wouldn't want to cast a dark cloud on anyones aspiration, but is it any wonder the treescape is under such pressure when there's little to inspire energy and enthusiasm into the role?
  7. I wouldn't have thought there were too many arb outfits in Gib??
  8. Jules (Daltontrees) had a thread a while back about the bat BS and how it did (or didn't) coexist very happily with 5837. http://arbtalk.co.uk/forum/trees-law/94934-indirect-recent-change-bs5837.html here it is
  9. Urban Dictionary: vegetarian vegetarian: A bad hunter. Someone who survives by consuming not food, but the stuff that food eats. The vegetarian was forced to subsist on slower prey, such as the broccoli and carrot.
  10. You exercised notable restraint in that retort Mr Eggs!
  11. You are right! My mistake - but you get what I was thinking..... (probably better than I did!) PS, both great films!
  12. Only if you have no plan / intention to employ somebody else into the previous role..... It might be possible to claim that an unexpected upturn in work has resulted in a need, but you might find yourself having to justify it at Tribunal. Making staff redundant then employing someone else
  13. Made me think of that scene in "The Green Mile" when they gang are supping beer on the roof!
  14. I rarely cross the Tamar into England!!
  15. The Watering Hole | The UK's ONLY bar on the beach!
  16. Ha, ha! Too true (sadly!) I have previously offered to remove a tree if the home owner sold their car and surrendered their driving licence. They declined and I didn't hear back from them. Coincidentally, I've just been reading the "do you chase up quotes thread." I didn't on that occasion!
  17. Mills up lovely. If you've got a use for it, go for it!
  18. Please don't take this the wrong way fella, I'm not the grammar police (but the assessors / moderators for your paper are) whilst recognising that a post on here isn't an exam piece but care and attention to detail may have clawed you a few more marks (or conversely, the absence of it may have lost you some!) If you are presenting a formal document you may be held to account for the contents so accuracy is crucial. I once received a tree report from our LA relating to trees in their ownership near to our house. The TO stated the requirement for biannual inspection. Six months later I requested the updated survey report, they said it wasn't due for 18 months (he meant biennial but wrote biannual.) Any failure resulting in damage or loss which takes it to court I doubt the judge will be sympathetic to a poor grasp of the English language. Do it again, you'll know what to expect and it should be easier to smash through the bits you did well and focus more attention on the bits that might need it.
  19. I'm kind of struggling with what appears to be a contradiction here unless I'm reading it wrong? The LPA are insisting on drop kerb / off street parking which could result in reduced existing natural drainage and increased run off into mains? How can that be consistent with SuDS? And it would appear that the barrier to doing what they want done is the tree which they'd be unlikely to approve for removal??
  20. It's often thought to be "illegal" but generally it's a confusion with cross compliancy regulations where ag subsidy is being claimed (as Marko posts above) that are being mis applied to domestic or non agricultural situations. There is no law, so far as I can see, that says "thou shall not cut thy hedge." There are considerations which should be applied whilst cutting said hedge though.
